So, because we have forum clean ups all the time, and because posts get buried away, here's a thread where you can paste plot/character-defining moments that should never be forgotten, and, if you want, describe what makes them a defining moment. Put them in quote form--it looks nice. To do that, go to a defining post, click "Quote," copy the entire BBCode, and paste it here, like so.
This is when Ocean found out Francesca, his so-he-thought soulmate, had died. Pretty sure everyone knows about all the Somnus tragedies, particularly Ocean's because they all kind of have to do with him lol, but basically, everyone Ocean has ever loved on TPR has died (second-love Shadow, best friend and original alpha Rage, Francesca, his nieces) and the one person who he has loved most broke up with him (Azaelia) to focus on her responsibilities. So, Ocean tried to commit suicide. He left the pack in the middle of the night so no one would have to find his dead body. On his way to the rogue lands, he met Francesca, and equally devastated wolf. They bonded over time while traveling together, and eventually Ocean became so invested in her that he decided to keep his life. During all of this, Somnus had sent out search parties to find him. When they did, it was not good. Francesca had fallen off of a cliff, and Ocean bounded after her. Somnus found the both of them nearly broken in pieces. They were helped back to Somnus where the new salutary, Murdoch, did his best to save them. Ocean, being strong and very healthy, survived with ease. Francesca, on the other hand, was incredibly small and weak. Her body couldn't handle the trauma, and after a few hours of salutary work, she passed away.
This post takes place when Eureka came to Ocean to tell him the news.
I consider this to be a defining moment for Ocean because, after everything he'd gone through, he decided he was cursed. All he's ever done is conceal his emotions beside his monstrous appearance and dominance-exuding exterior, and each time he's ever removed the mask and let himself feel something, it has utterly ruined him. In fact, each time, it has ended in the death of his loved ones. He knew that if he ever tried to love anyone again, they'd disappear. And, just as he feared, he lost possibly the greatest love of his life, and she would still be alive if it weren't for him. Ocean realized that he can't win, no matter what he does, and in this moment he had given up completely on the idea of love and happiness. This post details what is perhaps Ocean's lowest moment in his life.
O C E A N General of Somnus "You're that wolf from the borders..." Alphess Eureka His ears fell as the distasteful comment engendered revelations that Ocean loathed. He was sickened by his own actions and revolted by the unintended backlash they rendered. Immediately, he was altered before the pup. His eyes hardened and his muscles tightened in quick anger which should have been treated as an apology should he have simply said so. But, instead, as he had always infamously done, he retained words and resorted to misinterpretable expressions that were likely to worsen the image if Ocean that Weayaya had already developed. He was aware of his alarming appearance but was ever so awful at undermining it with less intimidating expressions. Draco's comment was reassuring at the most. His body relaxed immensely as he put reserved effort into settling his nerves. He had grown increasingly cautious of his presentation over the years of ridicule in Somnus. Now it seemed like everyone was just trying to be nice to him only to placate the beast they feared was inside of him, the beast he liberated at the borders, as Weayaya had unfortunately witnessed and blatantly admitted. It was around this time when Murdoch approached, and at the sight of him, Ocean's stomach plummeted. As he glared into the salutary's eyes, he could see Francesca's life in one of them and her death in the other. The result was a sort of grey sense of existence which Ocean felt towards him. He resented him for events which were possible to occur yet rated him highly for events which he had thankfully prevented. Ocean found his line of sight constantly alternating between each of Murdoch's red-yellow orbs until he fled the territory. Suddenly, Ocean's vision became blurry. Murdoch had left the area to return to Francesca, his patient. "If I linger any longer I worry for..." the patients. Ocean put Francesca's name in the regard and shuddered at the forebodings mocking him--expressly his history with love and death, respectively. Why wasn't he with her now? Why was he lingering around in the hunting grounds? Why was he avoiding her? Eureka came around with her smile. It was her omega smile, the one that held everyone together when things got hard. It was the meticulous little smile Somnus loved to see when something bad was happening--something catastrophic. Ocean was already taking steps away from the group each time that stupid, minute smile dared to inch closer and closer until Ocean was trapped by it. Her omega voice and her omega innocence and her omega vapidity intimated every last ounce of sanity Ocean had left in his fissured heart. Don't come near me you... Don't open your stupid, runny mouth you... He couldn't hate Eureka. He couldn't demonize an angel, and he couldn't execrate his family as much or more than he intolerated himself for the words that were about to come out of the angel's mouth. He fell ill. He stood there awake and alive but he was ill. And every organ in his system failed. And his blood froze and his soul left its place and his body became light as if the substance of his being had deteriorated into nothing, and within the instant of Eureka's third word, Ocean succumbed to summery existence. "Don't-" he began without the will to finish or the thought of what he was saying. "Don't," he said again, growing nauseous as the word made its way up his throat. It was a word--the only piece of anything left in his body and it was the last thing that would come out of it. This word meant he was gone and so was everything inside of him. He couldn't see Eureka or the others. They were all in his peripherals but he... could not see them for he saw nothing. Francesca smiled at him. She told him it wasn't his fault and that she was sorry this had to happen. Ocean wanted, and he ached, to move forward and take her under his chest. But instead, she stood there silently and apologetically, doing nothing at all, wrecking havoc on him. Her cotton beauty brought utter chaos to his fleeting soul and body. She was destroying him as her eyes pierced into his empty orbs, sending Ocean to the ground while gravity pulled him deeper and deeper until his nose was covered in dirt. Ocean's neck was at the ground. His legs shook as he stepped around with complete disorder. His eyes wandered the terrain archaically as he searched relentlessly for Francesca. He would trip on nothing while his seizure-like tragedy overtook his body and his mind and his voice came out as if blood clogged his throat. "Don't." And then he was gone. --Exit to the lakeside stream-- Sentinel Aelin Alpha Draco @weayaya |
