Lavender eyes loomed over the newfound territory, observing, analyzing it's surroundings. A tall and strong body emerged from behind an eroded chunk of rock, right in the middle of nowhere. Inhaling, the male absorbed data from the area, fresh and alien scents invading his nostrils. A green, clear space was before the timber wolf, who decided to sit down for a few moments, enjoying the soft breeze that pushed his brownish fur backwards. Mace pondered to himself, standing over a cliff. A good place to start over, he thought, looking back at his travel companion, Rey. The snow white female had walked alongside him for quite a while now, the male had seen her grow stronger and wiser, he had seen her evolve into what she is today. But no wolf is inmune to what happens around them, Mace stated to himself, internally, knowing well that after everything that had happened, his apprentice needed rest. Kicking a small piece of rock down the precipice casually, the brown rogue fully turned around. "This does seem like a good place to set down for some time," asked him, looking at younger wolf concerned. "Where is your head at, Rey?" Rey

The smell of brine was strong from up here, the sound and scent of a nearby ocean being tossed through her fur and against her nose with unrelenting gusts of wind as they scaled the rocky landscape. Rey trailed behind her mentor only by a few steps, her lapis eyes shifting upwards from the trail every now and then to watch Mace's calculated stride. She never really knew where he was leading her, each location and lesson coming as a mystery that she had to prepare herself for. It made her adaptable and independent from one any given climate or scenario, she was always on her toes and always facing new challenges that kept her mind sharp and focused. Rey could only guess that today's hike was meant to test her stamina as she heaved in grateful amounts of cold salty air every chance she could get, not quite used to trekking up inclines such as this. She tried not to let this small struggle show as Mace stopped himself to gaze over one of the rocky ledges. Keen eyes watched every tense movement of his muscles as he surveyed the land around and below them. His amethyst gaze soon crashed into her own. "This does seem like a good place to set down for some time," the decision had been made, and Rey wasted no time in dropping her rump against the icy ground, grateful for a moment of rest as her limbs began to ache after such an arduous journey from their last stop. How was Mace not even slightly winded after that climb? It seemed she still had a bit to learn... "Where is your head at, Rey?" His question was delivered with a hint of concern, as if he could hear her complaining about the length of their walk. But she couldn't let it show, her face remained a woven mask of idleness as she gave him a twitch of a grin. "On my neck, where it should be." She replied both jokingly and dead serious. Rey was always sure that her mind never wandered, focused on the task at hand. She had no time to daydream, not when the world around her moved on. Mace

Slowly, likely painfully to Vaas, Griz looked at the wolves surrounding her. One, a spy, hot-headed yearling that had all her life to live. The other two were the opposite. Their clock slowly winding down, but not ticking down to midnight yet. "How would you like to try fishing? I've yet to explore the northern territories. The coastline would take us there." Vass proposed, a mighty adventure indeed. Grizelda smiled, nodding her head in agreement with the plan proposed by the coarsest member of their newly budding quadruple. "I've never fished before, I'm keen to give it a try," the oldest she-wolf smiled softly, looking towards her companions to see if they were as enthusiastic as she was. Celeste had already begun moving north where Vaas had mentioned, so she presumed that they were heading off. Rolling her shoulders and feeling long worn joints protest silently, the greying form meandered away with her companions.

"How would you like to try fishing? I've yet to explore the northern territories. The coastline would take us there." Vaas's suggestion made StormFrost's tail wag happily. She had never gotten used to fishing, and it would help to practice. The young black she-wolf did not mind the slow pace at which her companions traveled, as she knew it might not be long before she was alone again, a thought she continued to push aside. She stretched her legs as she began her next adventure. "I haven't been to the coastline yet, but I'm sure it's really nice!" StormFrost walked with them, her tail sweeping from side to side.

"On my neck, where it should be," Rey replied quickly, as she laid on the snowy land below them both. "Good, that's where we need it right know," Mace shot back sharply. It had been an arduous and tiring day, yes, but they could not settle down camp yet. After draining so much energy, they had to get them back somehow, prey had to be hunted down. "Off the ground, apprentice. I need you on your paws too." Taking a long breath, the mentor gathered information from his surroundings, analyzing the different scents that came into contact with his nostrils. "We cannot travel all the way here, and not expect the need for meal, Rey," said the Timber lupine, turning away from the younger female, starting to walk to the opposite direction. "And if you ask me, I'm getting quite hungry myself," he added, advancing through the snow white, rocky grounds their pads were against. Walking on the many stones that covered the rockland, soft noises and rapid movement could be heard, little claws hitting against the cold ground beneath them. Mace could hear them, and soon enough he managed to visualize the objective. Voles, a mischief of them roaming around the area. Small game, maybe, but food was scarce and stomachs needed to be filled, so whatever meat could be found was as convenient as it could get. Rey

It seemed that Mace had been more than pleased with her answer to his question, and was quick to instruct her to get up. Any average wolf in this situation would have groaned and whined for just a for more seconds of rest, but Rey simply furrowed her porcelain brow and lifted her weary body onto perfectly muscled limbs. She had no reason to complain when the wolf giving her orders was the one to give her everything that she had today, Rey was grateful for all that he had done, so she followed his word with a loyalty and determination that would have been hard to match. Sapphire eyes watched with a distinct level of curiosity as Mace surveyed the land they had found. She watched as he inhaled with a markable precision as he scoured the air for what she would guess to be scents. "We cannot travel all the way here, and not expect the need for meal, Rey," the girl had been right, he had been searching for any possible prey. Rey had seen countless amounts of birds soaring through the winter-grey skies of the mountainous area, and a few mice had scuttled between the ice covered rocks, a scrawny vole or two scratching through the snow as well, but nothing worth while to them. But they couldn't be picky during this time of the year, food was scarce and they couldn't fall back on the luxury of hoping to find a meal with a decent amount of fat. This didn't stop her mind from wandering, however. Rey approached a ledge that looked out over the eastern sea, chilled winds slicing through her thick coat like it was nothing. She ignored the icy sensation and instead looked towards the beaches below, gleaming eyes settling on rock pools that had been spared from the ice. "We could venture down there," she suggested, nodding towards the frigid waves below, "in the rock pools and the shallows, there's bound to be crabs and fish washed up from the high tide." Rey looked back to her mentor, trying to gauge his thoughts on her idea. They had travelled all this way and she had found a vantage point, she just hoped that he would be willing to make the trip down to what would be an easy and satisfying meal.

Continued From: INTO THE VALLEY The canis lupus hesitantly padded into another territory, taking a moment to take in the scenery. She licked her chops, descending her cranium. She smelt badger mixed with jackrabbit, and she growled lowly. She followed the scent of the badger, which thankfully took another way than the jack rabbits. "Thank the lord." she proceeded to go forward to see where the badger was at so she could possibly kill it, therefore it wouldn't bother her while she was hunting or eating. She approached it, at a certain angle so it couldn't see her. She planned out her attack, excavating her unguis into the milieu and licking her canines. She kept her tail still, and her ears pointed forward. She was ready, whether it attacked her first or she attacked it first.

Mace smiled at her apprentice, as she got up without complain despite the long and ardous trip. She had gone a lot, the male had to admit, both mentally and physically. That raw power of will that blazed within his apprentice was rare, really uncommon to be found on any wolf. "We could venture down there," suggested Rey, looking over the edge. "In the rock pools and the shallows, there's bound to be crabs and fish washed up from the high tide," added the female. The older male walked forwards towards her position, watching over the cliff, feeling the breeze and the small drops of water that were shot meters above the sea and into their fur. The male hummed in doubt. Something didn't seem right down there, something told Mace not to go down that route. Suddenly, a passing scent came across the experienced wolf's nostrils disrupting his train of thought. It was familiar, but the lavender eyed lupine couldn't exactly say what or who it belonged to. "Something tells me..." Mace said, taking a few steps ahead towards the general direction of the smell. "That our path must continue, but not down there," he added. "Follow my lead, apprentice."

Rey peered over her shoulder as Mace joined her at the cliff's edge. Sapphire eyes watched with an immeasurable amount of intrigued as she observed the older male as he assessed the land that lay below them. It would have been the easiest option for them, though the descent might have held treacherous obstacles, it was nothing that Rey couldn't overcome with her strong sense of persistence. But something in Mace's eyes told her they would not be following her idea, and as his doubtful hum barely reached her pointed ears against the whipping wind, she knew that he had other plans forming in his head. "Something tells me...that our path must continue, but not down there," Rey quickly matched her mentor's steps as he began in his own direction, something obviously having caught his attention. She couldn't smell anything past the overwhelming scent of brine, nor could she hear anything through the brutal gusts of wind set inland from the ocean. It was disappointing to have her idea shot down, but Mace was a wise wolf. He wouldn't be changing their plans so suddenly without good cause. "Follow my lead, apprentice." And so she did. -- Exit To: Muddy Pines --Mace
