Anxiousness had sprawled itself across her delicate lupine features; ears locking themselves sideways due to her obvious discomfort that had been triggered by the sudden quarrel. Tail sagging down and under as the snarls and growls continued, every snap causing an instinctual flinch or a distasteful cringe. Fleur cared to understand the rogues reasoning, it was absolute ludicrous and obviously that’s a lot coming from someone like herself.
Though of course Ocean was her pack mate and General, the damsel with such a glowing heart, couldn’t help but feel something for the rogue. All scrawny and starving and acting crazed due to the hunger; it was enough for her to feel bad for him as he stumbled off once the squabble was over. A paw stepped towards him seemed only natural; she wished to inquire of his reason for attacking even when deprived of his weaponry. But it were as if her paws were glued to the earth, amber eyes on her risen head watching the rogue disappear far beyond her reach of questioning. Quietly whispering to herself a simple reminder. “There’s a thin line between bravery, and stupidity.”
"Thank you, Ocean. Do you have any wounds that need to be seen?"
The rogue was unimportant her adult self-reminded her, eyes shot up to meet Ocean’s before gazing cautiously at his form for any visible wounds. Her gaze darted back down, her submissive posture resumed as she awaited his reply to Violet. Beta Violet General Ocean @dread

O C E A N general of somnus
His electric gaze devoured her beauty, beseeching her company at the lake. He lapped the biting water when he took a pause at the stream. It had been a while since he'd come here. He'd forbidden himself from it like an addict to drugs; the air reminded him of what he loved so much that it would tear him apart knowing he couldn't have it. The circumstances had changed since then--he hoped--and wouldn't be there to feed a wistful, illusional dependency.
"Do you remember when we snuck around out here, beta and omega..." Ocean scoffed and smiled as he drilled the landscape with nostalgia. "Chasing rabbits like two dumb kids-
"Well, you knew what you were doing. I didn't." Ocean looked down, feeling dewy undergrowth hugging his ankles. "I came here for you. Even went to Ferus for you. I thought I was going to drop you off here and figure something else out for myself, but I'd learned things about you that kept me from leaving you; attached me to you"
Ocean raised his chin and caressed his eyes over Azaelia's owlish allure. "Azaelia..." He started laughing uncontrollably. "I'm in love with you!" He shook his head fanatically at the irony of everything. "I've loved you since I met you, when we were clueless rogues wandering around like we had a clue what we were doing. We still don't, but one thing I know."
Ocean stepped closer to her, softly placing his snout below her ear. "The world has torn me apart over and over again. You've always put me back together. After Shadow, the pups, Francesca, everything..." He backed away to see her eyes. "I left because I didn't want to see you end up like everything else I've loved. I thought if I left, you'd never get hurt. You could find a nice guy, like Murdoch, forget me, move on, and be happy. It's all I've ever wanted for you.
"You never wanted me like I've wanted you, because I'm mindsick and you're better than me. You put your responsibilities above me and I wish I had been strong enough to do that when I left, but I will never fight for anything in the world more than I will for you. I never have. I don't care if the whole fucking world ends if you're still in it.
"I love you Azaelia. I'm sorry." Azaelia |

| Azaelia. Former Somnus Alphess
Ankles quivered as she took steps across glossy dew, behind her soft prints in the mud and swelling movement of grass pods that proved she really was on this path. The sod had an aroma of its own that transported her back to childhood so quickly and miraculously she thought if she did look back at her imprints they'd be too small for the grown adult she had become. She took on the identity of her former self; she sported her beauty with a raised chin and thrilling eyes, feeling the pride of her pack supporting her graceful steps across the terrain. It wasn't until Ocean's voice broke a delusional wall that Azaelia remembered what she was doing here. "Do you remember when we snuck around out here, beta and omega..." Of course she did. How couldn't she? It was the only time in her life she'd felt purity of love and veritable joy. Sometimes, when she couldn't bear herself, she thought about this place and the time she and Ocean spent here, smiling at those unalloyed memories like a lovesick child at her little mate. She recalled them with caution, bringing an end to her cognitive journeys before she could remember what made the memories end. Azaelia couldn't move. She had never stopped feeling the pain she'd put on herself for leaving Ocean in those early days. He was right; he'd been with her every step of the way to Somnus only to be dropped like a heavy bag as soon as they'd made it, as if their journey here together meant absolutely nothing. And it all made sense that Ocean would think to leave... Azaelia had made him feel like his love for her meant nothing--that he meant nothing. Her throat swelled as she listened in agony to him; her sweet, tragic boy. Until he laughed. "Azaelia, I'm in love with you!" Her eyes widened, brows crouching over her optics in speculation. This was the conversation they were having? Ocean didn't take her here to lambaste her for what she'd done to him? Some anger passed over her for Ocean's choice not to criticize her, the product of so much filtered happiness and dejection harvesting in her heart at the same time. But the warmth of his breath at her temple reassured her that she loved him too. "I left because I didn't want to see you end up like everything else I've loved. I thought if I left, you'd never get hurt. You could find a nice guy, like Murdoch, forget me, move on, and be happy. It's all I've ever wanted for you." No, no, how could you ever think that? Azaelia closed her eyes, chin to the ground and head shaking side to side in despair like her thoughts were spoken aloud. Eventually a breath filled with sorrow and denial came to form at the crevice of her mouth. "No." "You never wanted me like I've wanted you, because I'm mindsick and you're better than me." "No," she whispered again, inaudibly, her head still shaking. "I don't care if the whole fucking world ends if you're still in it." Azaelia fell silent and rushed forward to embrace him by the time he said, "I love you Azaelia. I'm sorry." "Ocean," she cried. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." She fell to his ankles in complete loss. "Never forgive me. I can't bear your love if you can't see what I've done to you." Sobbing uncontrollably like a shameful idiot, Azaelia closed her eyes and buried her head in Ocean's warm chest. "I've always loved you," she sniveled as regret for leaving him swelled and blocked her airway. "I shouldn't have done it. I shouldn't have. I've never been happy without you. I hate what I've done. I hate myself." She sobbed into Ocean's body as everything came down on her. She'd always been miserable. She couldn't survive as an alphess because of the guilt that constantly anchored her down, keeping her from moving forward. It yanked at her, scolded her, beat her--did everything in its power to make her remember what a selfish, stupid bitch she was. And now she was here, facing that very thing that she'd broken. Ocean was like a ghost and his soul haunted her for revenge. "I ruined everything. I ruined you. I'm sorry."

O C E A N general of somnus
His skin was smoldered by the angst; he could feel the redness of his dermis saturating his coat with salty dew. Fanatic orbs dared to trace the figure of the many-shaded lupess, over her lacy thistle optics. He was held prisoner by the essence of her lavender hues.
He was charged to capacity with conviction when Azaelia fell to his feet. Stoney eyes searched the terrain aimlessly for an answer to his query. There was no possible remedy for the sorts of things he was feeling when the center of his world cried into his chest.
"Never forgive me. I can't bear your love if you can't see what I've done to you," she mustered below him in a voice thick with culpability. The massive beast shook his head in refusal, skimming his maw over her cheek. He couldn't carry himself dynamically when faced by her words, "I hate myself."
"Stop it, now," he said, that fearsome, velvety voice peering from his maw, like it knew it didn't belong here but had no other choice but to make an entrance. He backed away, forcing Azaelia to find a new pillar to lean on--Ocean didn't want to hear her shit-talking herself. All he wanted was for her to love herself as much as he did.
"You're never going to even convene ideas like that ever again. I'll make sure of it." He exhaled, eyes closing momentarily as he assembled his final words.
"We're here now. You've been holding on to stupid, dumb-kid things that happened years ago. You have to realize that things have changed since then. Everything has. But I still love you and you still love me. Nothing has changed that and nothing will. My life didn't begin until I met you, and I'm not going to let it end without you. Be with me." Azaelia |

Sentinel Aelin
The girl with a golden heart
The weight of Uzumati's body was slipped gently from her back as they reached the Lakeside Stream, Aelin having offered to handle the deceased hunter's rump as she had realised that Ocean was beginning to slow under their pack-mate's immense weight. Now that they were here, she was starting to realise the amount of work that would have to be put into burying their friend. The snow would be easy enough to clear, but the frozen dirt underneath would definitely be a challenge to work through. A warm sigh curled from her lips and vaporised against the cold air as she pushed past these thoughts. Out of respect for her fallen friend, no task would be too difficult, especially since she wasn't doing it alone.
"Here looks like a good spot," she suggested with a swift notion of her muzzle towards the area of earth that they would disembowel in order to lay Uzumati to rest. Aelin showed no hesitation as she stepped forward and began to clear the snow away from the site, only a few inches laying between them and ground below. Her brows were instantly furrowed as she churned through her first few paw-fuls of dirt, the frozen chunks of grit slicing at her delicate paw pads with enough violence to draw small droplets of blood to break through the toughened skin. She grimaced, but pushed through, muttering encouragement to Ocean and Vespen as they eventually hit the soft and clay-like layers of dirt that signified they had dug far enough.
Aelin tried to hide the slight tremble that echoed through her bones as the exhaustion of the last few days really began to press against her body, stars dancing across her golden vision reminding her of the burnout that threatened to overcome her. But they had finished the dig, and it was as she climbed out of the hole that she realised they had accrued an audience around the burial sight. Struggling for breath, her gaze quickly found Draco's beastly figure amongst the small crowd of wolves that mostly consisted of new faces that she failed to recognised. But the love that he had shared with her only moments ago, and the love that she felt blooming to life in her chest after merely glancing at him drove her to raise her head with confidence, nodding to Ocean as he would position the body within it's earthly bed.
The task of replacing all of the disturbed soil was quickly completed and in no time, she was standing at the foot of a grave, her creamy white coat covered in grit and her damaged paws leaving small trails of warm blood against the crystalline snow. Her golden eyes looked over everyone who had gathered, a grateful smile being given to Ocean and Vespen as the guilt that had rested heavily on her shoulders began to ease. But she was not done yet.
"I know most of you are strangers to this pack, and unfamiliar with the wolf who now rests below our paws. So I would like to thank each of you on behalf of Somnus for being here to grieve for the soul we lost, and to celebrate the life he lived." A melancholic smile brought a dim warmth to her face as she extended her gratefulness to her family—new and old—that had gathered with her. "More often than not, we find ourselves looking back on better days, where the sun shines bright and the flowers are in bloom. And now, we look back on better days when we could turn to Uzumati for his strength, his determination, his kindness, warmth, compassion and friendship. Although he and his wisdom may be gone, he is now a star among Somnus' night sky, and I urge you to look to him and his memory so that you may remember what he lived for, and so you may let his legacy live on within your own actions." A simple nod was all she gave as her eulogy was concluded, hoping that anyone who had listened would find some kernel of inspiration and hope within the words she had weaved together.
Aching joints brought her to Draco's side, her rump slumping into the snow as she buried her weary muzzle into the warm fur of his shoulder, inhaling the scent that she had been missing so dearly. Comfort quickly washed over her, and the throbbing pain in her bloodied paw-pads was slowly fading as she closed her eyes and rested for just a second, finally content with everything she had managed to do for her fallen friend.

OMEGA VESPEN
Vespen did not detach emotionally like she had done earlier in the hunting grounds, her rose colored orbs staying steady and hard at the chore in front of them. When Aelin decided the place she moved along the female, helping tear away at skin splintering shards of ice. Once they got to the soft clay she noted the red colored snow at both their feet, even at Ocean's. Red on white, much like her own eyes compared to the rest of her. This show of sacrifice to bury their kin was enough to bite her tongue and bear through the pain.
For a short moment the trio rested until more wolves began to filter into the area. She raised her head to take in some of the faces. She looked over the area as well that she hadn't when she initially came in. The area was breathtakingly beautiful. Looking down to the resting place of Uzumati. Vespen helped push the dirt over his body before stepping back. Aelin seemed to be taking this harder and she moved her body to lean against hers, a small warm comfort. If Aelin looked towards her, she would offer a small smile of comfort and encouragement.
The speech moved Vespen, cementing the idea that Somnus was indeed where she belonged. To die here amongst wolves who would honor your spirit forever was an honor most packs did not do. A small smile brought to her lips at the fond, but short, memory of Uzumati. He was a kind and gentle wolf, reminded her so much of her brother, and was taken away too quickly. Pawing the earth under her paws she side glanced Ocean. Aelin had moved away towards a male, she think she heard him say his name was Draco.
"Those living here must be extremely lucky to find a pack who honors all of their wolves, even after death," she spoke softly enough for only Ocean to here. She would stay next to Ocean until she saw someone who needed the company more, but the older male seemed to have some emotion for Uzumati, or at least for the death of a pack mate, and she would do what she could to make others here feel better.

Warrior Red
Red had awkwardly followed Draco into the Lakeside stream, her body leaning against a tree while she watched the proceedings. She didn't feel comfortable in this time of mourning, but she wanted to honor her friend's pack in ways that she could. Lowering her head to her chest, she awkwardly mourned this stranger. Until real grief hit her square in the chest.
Names of those she lost flashed behind her eyes. So many she has tried to save and befriend, all who left or died. Those she abandoned. Her own brother. Guilt clenched her throat but she wouldn't sob here. She was thankful, though, that this would allow her time to finally grieve in peace for those she lost.
Celeste, her first real friend and companion. Gideon, who died by infections from wounds she inflicted. Riel, the only wolf that poked the inner workings of her heart. Lash, a firey young she-wolf who reminded her so much of her younger self. Cheveyo, a wolf that could impress most with his demeanor and calm attitude. Athena, a loyal and good friend. Scenery, a sweet wolf dealt a bad hand and good heart. Ridley, her brother who she left to perish with those monsters. And many more that she has lost the names of, but none would be forgotten.
Green eyes finally opened. They held a resolve that kept her heart from breaking underneath all those she lost. Stealing her resolve she rose from her tree, eyes looking to each wolf. Each one mourning their packmate and possibly others. Moving forward, she looked at Draco and Aelin having a moment.
Red waited for an appropriate amount of time for others to mourn before she looked to see who she could approach. She looked towards a larger figure that seemed to hold authority, just as Draco did. She approached him with a respectful tail posture. "My apologies for interrupting your time of mourning," she spoke softly, if not a tad awkwardly. "I am Red, one of the wolves Eureka brought in," she introduced herself.

g e n e r a l // o c e a n a reckless wolf with a selfless interior
Silence dwelled as he hauled the massive form of yet another Somnus wolf to the lake. The days were growing warmer in the past weeks, and as the dwindling cold ushered in the spring, the stream was running once again, no longer hemmed in by a frozen lake. Uzumati was transitioning just the same, and though Ocean was never fond of the sun, he would not miss the winter and whatever had happened during the season that seemed to throw everything, and everyone, off balance.
Ocean broke the silence just before they entered the clearing. "Aelin, Eureka, and Vespen if you would, could you prepare a bed by the others?" He hoped they'd done most of the work by the time he arrived to the sites of Rage, River, their pups, Francesca, Shadow...
It was the circle of life, and Ocean felt an estranged peace as he fantasized someday laying beside them all. Somnus had grieved too frequently, and Ocean seemed to be the only one who didn't grow stronger each time. He set the body down and finished hollowing the cold earth with the others until it was soft enough for a body. He held his breath as he stationed Uzumati in his bed.
He was surprised to hear Aelin's voice instead of Eureka's, but the alphess had been eerily quiet since she'd returned. It was upsettingly unlike the spirited young girl, who seemed to always have an answer for everything. Nevertheless, he reminisced in Aelin's speech. It was exactly what River would have said, or Azaelia, or Eureka. He underestimated her.
"Those living here must be extremely lucky to find a pack who honors all of their wolves, even after death," a voice like clouds whispered. Though they were only words, they meant everything to Ocean coming from her. Vespen was new, which meant she was a promise for Somnus. Every generation over the past years meant a chance for change, and though it rarely happened, something about her gave him faith that Somnus, and he, would be OK. It was because she looked after his mate, and because she reminded him of Eureka, who really did change Somnus for the better. It was the only time he'd allowed himself to be vulnerable in front of anybody but Azaelia when he responded with a voice shaking in intervals, but full of hope. "Lucky, indeed."
Before he could assume a less poised form of fervency on his face, he took a few steps away from the site, and away from Vespen, allowing the others to fill in the burrow with whatever they sought⏤flowers, pods, and soil for the rest. Ocean averted his gaze from Uzumati's figure as it became swallowed by white dirt. He didn't know why. Maybe it was out of respect, or maybe he was too afraid to view the circumstance in the eyes, or maybe both. The magnitude of these thoughts suffocated him. He took in what he could of the thin air and turned away in a fit, only to be stopped by an unfamiliar new packmate. One of Eureka's friends.
"My apologies for interrupting your time of mourning," she said quietly. She appeared somewhat uncomfortable, a reasonable reaction to the events unfolding. He dipped his head in response, before she introduced herself. "I am Red, one of the wolves Eureka brought in."
"Red," he repeated as he examined her figure and the lacerations hiding under her fur. She'd seen the world for what it is. Ocean sighed, grief surging from his breath, and kept his head to the ground so as not to look down on her. Not now. "Ocean, general. It's good to meet you." His eyes wandered the scene for a moment. Nothing about this was ideal. "I'm sorry about all of this. I wish I could tell you it gets better, but..." His gaze returned. It was unwise to finish that sentence, especially around Eureka. She was already insecure about her dysfunctional family. He looked to Vespen and breathed again.
"You can never expect too much or too little from Somnus." A small, nostalgic smile snuck across his face before it disappeared.
He felt strange in this crowd. There were many unfamiliar faces that he forced himself to call family. He still searched for Azaelia's lavender hues somewhere in the audience, and he hoped to see one of his longest friends, the beta. He wanted to see Wiggles, but Ocean couldn't imagine how he would handle such a ceremony. Perhaps it was best if Uzumati's little buddy stayed behind, for his own sake.

| | The walk to the Lakeside Stream was quiet. A lot was weighing on her mind at the moment. Not that life in Somnus ever offered anything more than a heavy heart. She loved the pack dearly, and she loved her pack members more so. But the devastation that clung to the land was like a leech, sucking the life out one wolf at a time. Lavender eyes drifted to the wolves that were around her. There were new and old faces, some that she had only met once, and others that she knew by heart. There were all mingling together, joined together to help with the burial of a dead pack member. Even the members who had not been in the pack for more than a day were joining them to mourn the loss of life. She thanked Jolon and Corvidae silently, knowing that this had almost nothing to do with them, and she could never ask them to shed tears over the fallen. Even she didn’t know Uzumati that well. But he was a Somnus wolf, and he deserved a burial alongside the fallen just as much as the next wolf. She came to a stop near the front, bringing herself near Ocean, but not enough to be within her personal space. Azaelia and him were one of her only friends that she knew and cherished. She would make new ones eventually, but right now, Draco, Eureka and the three of them, were all that was remaining of the original Somnus, not including Luke who resided in Noctis.
She looked over towards River and Rage’s burial spots, seeing as the snow had covered and killed the flowers that had started to grow near them. A saddened smile came across her face, thoughts whirling her back to when she had first come into the pack. Azaelia had been the one to meet her at the borders. She had accidentally trespassed, so excited by the prospect of companionship that she had ultimately ignored the borders. But she was still brought into the pack, given the rank of Guardian, and moved in as if she were a part of their family all along. She hoped that the new wolves felt the same when they came here, that they felt like they were already family, even only having been here for a day or so. Lavender eyes darted over towards Shadow’s grave in that moment, feeling loss and sadness all over again as the memories flooded forth, bringing her back to when they had faced coywolves. It sent shivers down her spine, thinking of that, and so she pushed the thoughts away, instead opting to listen to Aelin who was currently speaking. She was an intelligent and kind she-wolf, one of the most caring she-wolves Violet had met. She was glad that Draco had fallen in love with her, she would keep him from doing more reckless stuff in the future. At least, she hoped he would. Her words warmed Violet’s heart. To see that speech came easily to her. She was the perfect match for Draco after all. Her words were true. Uzumati was a fine wolf, and a great pack member. Even if Violet had been too busy wallowing in her own self doubt, she had been able to see it within his actions in the pack.
Looking towards Red and Vespen as they both spoke, the white she-wolf took a step forward towards them. Seeing as Ocean had introduced himself already, she made her presence known and dipped her head to her friend before looking to the two new wolves. She heard what Ocean had said, and a small, yet sad smile came across her face. “You really never know what to expect,” She breathed, and looked towards the gargantuan male, and then back to the other two. “I’m Violet, the Beta of Somnus. I hope that you two find yourselves well and fitting into our pack soon enough,” She said, then turned to sit down in front of Uzumati’s grave, which was surely covered by now. As she examined it, she looked around, searching for something. Bringing herself away from the grave, she returned shortly after with a small acorn. It was cracked, and no doubt potentially dead after being buried underneath the snow for quite some time, but she placed it on the grave, near the top where she covered it with her nose so no wandering squirrel would take it. After she did this, she pulled back, returning to the group of wolves that were currently gathered around the grave. She wasn’t sure what else needed to be said, and so she sat there, wordlessly waiting as she watched the dirt, almost as if she were willing for Uzumati to not be buried under there, for him to be back in the commons waiting, and that they were all just paying homage to the wolves of the past that were buried here. But that would never be the case, and Uzumati was really gone.

| D R A C O D E L T A S O M N U SDraco had taken his time to get to the Lakeside Stream. He hadn’t been here since they had buried Francesca, and although his parents were buried here, he couldn’t bring himself to visit. He didn’t see himself fit enough to do so. With the things he had done, blaming Eureka, and ignoring his own blood, he felt as if he had failed his parents in some way. But now was not the time to let his own self doubt take over, as he knew that he needed to be here for the death of a packmate. Uzumati had been a great wolf, one that he knew had the strength to carry on, but everything happened so suddenly, and now he was dead. Something didn’t quite feel right, but he knew that now was not the time to go digging and find out what it was. He had to be here for his pack, and even if he were nervous to be around his deceased family once more, he would have to push that aside and come to terms with it. He would have helped make the grave and such, but Aelin was determined to help. She had come from the hunting grounds, and based on her reaction when she had come back, she had absolutely no clue what had happened to the male when she left to come greet him after his long journey home. He felt guilty, knowing that he had put himself on Aelin’s mind, bringing her to the commons. He wanted to tell her that she didn’t need to feel bad, that things like this happened and it was never planned, but he held his tongue as she spoke. The words she uttered were beautifully spoken and could have brought tears to anyone’s eyes. She came over to him after that, finding solace in his presence, and he in hers. He instinctively welcomed her in, bringing himself to wrap around her and breathe in the wonderfully familiar scent as he closed his eyes. His ears twitched as wolves were introducing themselves to Ocean. It seemed that even if the older members were grieving, the younger members would take this time to introduce themselves and get to know the wolves around them. He knew that Red apologized for interrupting, but it just seemed out of place for greetings. Ocean and Violet went along with it though, and so he didn’t say anything. Instead, his gaze flitted over towards his family’s graves. His heart was beating a bit too fast, making him curse himself for being too overwhelmed by the idea of visiting their graves. But here he was, almost sat directly in front of them with the love of his life curled into his side. He silently gave them what he knew he should have been doing over the past years; updates on his life and paying respects to them. Draco, even being one of the best warriors besides Ocean, was a coward when it came to facing real emotions, to facing his pack members in anything other than battle. He wasn’t one to openly spout narratives of how he felt, he would never be able to do that, instead he just silently let them build up, until they all exploded and he said something he would regret later on. Like how he had attacked Eureka for the death of Abel and Ariel. Things that affected the others around him he would only make worse, but he was trying to do better. He would do better, especially now when Eureka would need him. The thoughts of his sister had him looking for her, trying to see if she had already made it the Lake in order to pay her respects to the fallen warrior. Searching for her, he couldn’t find her in the crowd of wolves that were currently there, but he knew that she would be there shortly. He wasn’t sure how she would cope with the trauma that had befallen her on their journey home, but if she had anyone to blame for it, it was him. He hadn’t been strong enough to fend off the wolves that attacked, and instead he was strewn about and almost killed while that male… The thoughts pouring into his head were quickly shook away as he huddled closer to Aelin, trying to gather a bit more warmth in her touch as he tried to push the thoughts out of his head.

- the constant happiness is curiosity -
Eureka arrived only in time to hear Aelin speaking over the crowd of Somnus. Thoughts rose to defend her truancy, but the state of an alphess was clear. Eureka's guilt obliterated her ability to make her way to the front where she belonged, until she reminisced on the talented words of her sentinel. Perhaps it was a symptom of Somnus to speak so eloquently about death that allowed Eureka to remove herself from her agony, only for the sake of her family. In her youth, this was how she survived, and she knew there was no other time but now to start again, because there was no worse thing to be than a coward to the self and to others.
"Thank you, Aelin," Eureka whispered, making eye contact for the first time since she lashed out against the beta. A sore smile forced itself into her lips until it felt natural, like she was again the spirited omega that saved Somnus time and time again. This is how she had to run her pack; not as an obligation to lead, but as an obligation to serve.
The terrain was clothed in white but the few pads of dirt where the sun shined. In one of them stood a camellia flower, a source of positivity for one of the new members of her pack. She found Merida somewhere in the crowd and yipped in her direction, encouraging her to participate in the burial.
Upon gazing amongst the crowd, Eureka locked eyes with the beta. It was only awkward for a moment, until Eureka subtly bowed her head apologetically. She never meant to act so harshly towards her guardian. Eureka hated herself for letting her loved ones suffer for her own insecurities, but standing before her family once again was enough to discredit her apprehension and remind her of the immense love that surrounded her. She knew now that she had a lot to make up for.
Her first target was Ocean, who was conversing with Red. Eureka had been concerned with her friend since they'd arrived at the commons; she didn't seem interested in assimilating like the others. To see her socializing with Ocean, admittedly, frightened her... the stories he could tell that would scare any sane wolf out of Somnus made Eureka enter the scene quicker than she expected.
"I'm sorry for not being here to help with the burial," she said with sincerity to the general. She wouldn't give him any excuses, but the scent of poultice across her body would surely serve as an explanation.
"Red," she began, sighing with some settling combination of regret and gratitude. "Thank you for being here. I know this isn't... comfortable, but I appreciate you showing your support." Eureka nodded as a motion of recognition, with a natural smile indicating her fondness towards her new friend.
She wandered and looked for Azaelia, but eyes failed her. She found Draco, and she intended to be with him for the time, but he seemed very comfortable with his new mate. She pawed at the earth and sat where she stood, a few feet from Uzumati. Perhaps it was the right thing to do to let silence pass in remembrance of a lost friend. She let all of her thoughts vanish as she detached entirely from her suffering, closed her eyes, and let all memories of her star hunter play in her mind.

The creamy pelt that adorned Wiggles' body finally came into view of the rest of them, having lagged behind because of his spread-step. It seemed to worsen with the amount of weight on his mind, and at times his legs almost refused to act accordingly and he would have to stop for a short break to compose himself. He just couldn't focus as much on moving all his body in one motion when he was so incredibly sad. He hoped Merida would have walked with him no matter how slow his pace, but if she didn't he wouldn't blame her. Uzumati was the only one who would always slow down for him, even if he was in a hurry. There weren't a lot of those kinds of wolves out there anymore, and now there was one less. When he got there, the ceremony was half over already. Everyone was starting to drop whatever they wanted into the hole where Uzumati's huge body lay, and Wiggles, with tears in his eyes, wobbled over to the edge of the burial site. He stared for a long time. Uzumati meant so much to him, and he didn't even have anything for him. A whine escaped his lips at the thought. He didn't want to just throw some dirt on him. He was a strong wolf who deserved more than a simple spot next to the others. He got an idea. Wordlessly, he wandered away from the group, looking around as if he was lost. He followed along the lakeside, looking intensely before finding what he wanted. He plunges his muzzle into the water, coming back up with a rock about the size of a quarter. It was smooth from years of resting in the water and being eroded with time. It was shiny, brightly colored, softer than other rocks, and tasted like metal. He brought it over and dropped it in just before they started to bury Uzumati, then sat back towards the outskirts of the group. General Ocean Merida Azaelia Alphess Eureka Alpha Draco General Red

Sentinel Aelin
The girl with a golden heart
Aelin had felt like she was drowning. Time and time again she had been beaten down, by Draco's absence, the loss of the pups, Uzumati's death and her incompetence in being there to help when it had happened. She was sinking deeper and deeper and her body was giving up on her, shaking limbs struggling to keep her upright as she was now scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to find a drop of energy to keep her conscious. She had been drowning, and now, a light had appeared, breaking through the surface of her struggles and guiding her towards a hopeful future, one that she could share with the wolf she was leaning against. Tears beaded against her eyelids as she shifted herself against Draco, her heart aching in her chest as she savoured his presence, worried that he might be taken away from her again at any minute, or that she would wake up from this dream to find herself lost in the rogue lands again, still searching for the pups that did not want to be found.
But all of that was behind her now. Aelin was here in Somnus, with her mate, standing amongst the old members who rested beneath the ground and the new faces that had begun to integrate themselves into the pack. She couldn't stop herself from letting her gilded eyes wander to the site where they had buried River, right beside the wolf she knew to be Draco's father. A sigh slipped from her lips, suddenly realising just how much loss Somnus had experienced, yet it's wolves were strong enough to face death and adapt to moving on with the memories of those that had been left behind. Aelin had quickly learnt to do the same.
"Thank you, Aelin," a weary and hushed voice caught her attention, the she-wolf's ivory crown shifting back find the Alphess presenting her with a worn smile. It was obvious that Eureka was still healing from whatever had happened beyond their borders, and all Aelin could offer was a warm and encouraging smile in return, brought on with what little energy she had left. She watched as the young Alphess walked away to sit by Uzumati's grave, and so many instincts rushed through her. She wanted to embrace Eureka and squash everything that seemed to be plaguing her, but it was clear that she wanted space, and she needed time. She needed her family.
Aelin's ebony nose nudged Draco's shoulder before she nodded towards his sister. "Is she okay? Do you need to be with her?" The she-wolf questioned, hoping that Draco would either give her some kind of clue as to what was wrong with the Alphess, or that he would go and console his sister.

Make room for the things that add beauty to your life Bouncing and chatting alongside the abundantly jolty new friend of hers was certainly a happy diversion from the swirling cloud produced by Azaelia's negation to talk to her. Despite how his bones danced so quickly, he traveled rather slow. Though Merida was naturally energetic, she was so happy to pace with Wiggles along the way. It gave her more time to talk to him, anyways. She couldn't be too happy now. Though she didn't know the fallen hunter, nor any of the Somnus wolves in the area but Eureka, Draco and Red, she felt an immense sadness for this family. It was only her nature to absorb the emotions of those around her in order to empathize and understand situations like these. As she stood somewhere in the middle of the bystanders, she could feel everything, and the pressure in her stomach would soon become unbearable. She watched as her sweet-scented friend sulked away as sulkily as wobbly limbs permitted. She averted her eyes from the dead body, and instead watched Wiggles and all of the others search for an emblem of respect to set in Uzumati's resting place. Then, a yip in her direction, from the alphess herself. It didn't take long for Merida to register the indication, and after some thought, she followed Wiggles; partly to make sure he could traverse safely across the slippery terrain, as well as to nervously pick a camellia from the earth. It was a beautiful alabaster hue. She dipped her head at Eureka as she passed her--she must have remembered that Merida was a lover of these precious plants. She closed her eyes as she came upon the site of Uzumati's burial. She'd seen plenty of blood, heard the screams of those in pain, witnessed torture, but she'd never seen death so close. She loved her life regardless of what she'd been through, and didn't yet want to accept that it would someday end. All she could do was make life better for those around her and enjoy it all until that day came. She opened her eyes and dropped the flower, taking in the sight of what lay below. Perhaps it was out of place for her to be participating, but Merida was never one to obey convention. A sudden wave of loneliness overcame her. She looked outwards to the rest of the wolves and saw nobody but strangers. Red hardly talked to her in the short time they'd known each other, not to mention Eureka's utter silence the entire time. Draco had been more interested in protecting his sister than making conversation, and now he was occupied with the sentinel. Whatever they went through must have shook them all. Percy, thankfully, stayed behind in the commons, and Azaelia was no where to be found. It wasn't like her sister to miss something like this... never. Her heartbeat was rising. Surveying the company, she decided that she was already more familiar with the ivory scout than anybody she had traveled here with. Seeing him alone, away from his family, just didn't feel right. "Oh Wiggles, I'm so sorry," she cried softly after setting herself beside him. All she could do was be there for him, and anybody else who needed somebody to talk to, lean on, or to distract them from this horrible tragedy. @wiggles Alphess Eureka General Red Sentinel Aelin Alpha Draco Omega Vespen General Ocean @jolon Apprentice Corvidae

The mismatched male followed closely behind the rest of the group, silently watching the rest of the pack wolves mourn. He wanted to get to know everyone, to meet all the new and old faces alike, but this wasn't the time. Clacking his stone around in his mouth, Cori's eyes trailed over to Wiggles, the male fishing a rock out of the stream and depositing it into Uzumati's grave. Silently, he dipped his head towards the hole in the winter ground. Though he hadn't met the male, he hoped that he had a fulfilling life. Glancing over to the Beta, he dipped his head towards her in a gesture of support. As the funeral came to an end, Cori began to walk back to the commons, his tail thwacking against a fallen tree on his way back. He wanted to ensure that this place of resting was safe and peaceful.
