The Sorelus Beta female was about to meddle with something foreign. Meeting up with a wolf on anything other than business. The cinnamon she-wolf wouldn't say that she had friends, she had allies - a family she could count on definitely - but friends? No, she didn't have friends. This 'Tinder' had been recommended to her in passing by Junichiro. The male had found a date on the app, and had muttered something about it in one of his mumbled complaints as he lumbered around their new commons. After consulting Rowan, she discovered that 'Tinder' was more than simply meeting up. Often these 'meet-ups' resulted in a furthering of the relationship incredibly quickly, what one would typically called mateship. With her optimal fertility slowly running out, she figured that it would be a suitable substitute for any of the objectively subpar males in Sorelus.
She had met only one that met even the lowest of her standards. His name was Ebony. His profile had no fluff, no padding to try and appeal to her eyes. It was like an empty den with a twig in it. Appealing. He sought the same thing she did, the only issue being that he was curious about an emotional experience and he certainly wasn't about to get one from Wingnut. She was the equivalent of an emotional brick wall. Maybe, if by some miracle, this 'Ebony' could unearth any sliver of historic emotion within her, he would get a fraction of what he sought. Nevertheless, they 'matched.' And with minimal and efficient communication, they had arranged a date. The Beta had gotten permission from Rowan to use the hot springs and to not be interrupted by any rambunctious pup or stray apprentice. And thus, the scene was set.
Padding through the snow, the scentless ash-stockinged she-wolf wasted no time dipping her paws into the water. It was a hot spring. She was going to utilize the territory she was admittedly blessed with. The nip of the heated water against her paw instantly melted the remaining snow. As much as she wanted to sink instantly into the only thing that brought her any sense of comfort or, god forbid, happiness, she had to let herself get used to the temperature. It was a process that took a few minutes, but soon, Wingnut was laying in the shallows of the heated pool. Everything but her neck and head was submerged in the delightful water. Her face still remained blank, however, sharp eyes scanning the horizon while her nose was blocked partially by the scent of volcanic sulphur heating the pools. If 'Ebony' looked like his profile picture, he wouldn't be hard to spot against the stark white of the snow. @ebony

- Beta Ebony - Someone who cannot hate something, cannot love something, either. Blood stained the carpet of snow with every step he took, the aftermath of another job well done. He was much obliged to follow orders regardless of the task. He was a servant and that was it; yet, he still had the innate desire to pass on his genes to little servants of his own someday. He had never felt a mother's love for her pup, or had the solidity of a father that would lay down his life for his children. In fact, he'd never felt love at all, so he couldn't fathom what it would feel like to raise a family, if he would feel anything. But he had to try. It was his inborn duty; a service, this time, for himself.
He knew how bachelors conducted themselves around females. Bowing, thrashing the head, touching, sometimes overcompensating with an absurdly supreme stature because it was the only card they could play. Ebony approached the hot spring absent of all those things, void of all expressions and giving no signals as to how he felt upon seeing the bright, amber orbs of the otherwise pedestrian female before him, though neither was he more than average in his own appearance.
"Hello," Ebony barked with a penetrating stare before stepping into the steamy water, with nearly his entire body at once.
Water spilled from the sides of his maw as it opened again while he struggled to find a comfortable seating position, though he found that if he sat his rump would float, and if he lay only his snout would protrude from the surface.
"Hi," he said again once he had settled comfortably. His eyes traced along what was visible of Wingnut's figure. He appeared to be dissatisfied. "I would need to see your full body outside the water to assess you," he began unapologetically, though he found his nerves slowly numbing as his weight submerged in the warm spring. Oh, he'd never felt such pleasing sensations. "Though perhaps that could wait," he mumbled with eyes closed, nearly losing himself to the comfort of the water.
"Are you familiar with the likes of affection?" Ebony asked as he made his way closer to his date. It was an obvious conclusion that he, indeed, was not. He made an attempt to tap his nose on the female's cheek, like he'd seen the mating pairs do before courtship. "Do you like to be touched?"

There he was. A simple blank slate of a male, a bit stained with blood but otherwise seemed fine. Blankly, she watched as he contaminated the holy grounds that were the hot springs with the dried blood on his fur. She reciprocated his barked greeting with a sharp nod, her eyes trailing over him for any signs of a physical genetic disorder. There appeared to be none. Rather than letting himself get accustomed to the temperature, Ebony just barged in. No doubt he was sizzling in the hot water, but his apathy and resilence were qualities that were admirable enough. "Hi," he greeted again after a struggle to sit down. To anyone else, it would have been amusing. To her, it was merely business.
Staring at him as his calculated gaze ran over her system, Wingnut watched as a flicker of what seemed like a frown crossed his face. Neither of them were emotive. Wingnut had become almost fluent in subtle body language so she could get her message across without actually having to fake emotion for others. The steam wasn't doing him any favours in seeing her fully. "I would need to see your full body outside the water to assess you," his request was logical. She could complete it. As she was about to exit the hot pool, his voice halted her. It seemed that she wasn't the only one to enjoy the feeling of hot water against her skin.
"Are you familiar with the likes of affection? Do you like to be touched?" His blank voice asked as his dark frame moved closer so her cinnamon one. His cold nose gently tapped her cheek. It was something she had seen Raisa do to Rowan before, so she presumed that it was merely something one did when courting another. "No personal experience. My pack has a pair that have courted. Do you like being touched?" her flat tones responded, her body moving to mimic the only affection she had seen. Without any feeling behind it, she reached out her head to nuzzle it against the side of his neck. She had to do extra work to complete the action considering she was a few inches taller than him. Retracting back to a sitting position, amber eyes looked towards him questioningly. Was that gesture something appreciated or simply just another action in the lives of the two very business oriented wolves.

- Beta Ebony - Someone who cannot hate something, cannot love something, either. Interesting.
A chill went down his spine upon contact. His exposed neck had felt a gentle touch he'd never felt before, and his nose was timidly cold from the wet of Wingnut's cheeks. He could not describe the substance of those feelings, only their qualities that generated the chemical reactions on account of which Ebony was utterly disturbed.
"It appears not," Ebony replied as he inched away, feeling the reassuring warmth of the spring swallow his neck like a blanket. "I'd observed the alphess of my previous pack with two partners," his gaze traced along the pebbles circling around the spring, meticulously spotting the shape, color, and oddities of each of them. "The first was killed. They'd had a litter. The event made her weak." On the brink of his dimming tone, if they were skeptical enough, one might have discerned a minuscule bout of contempt, though Ebony perceived his own reaction as disapproval.
"Of course, she became well upon courting the second, but she never regained the judgement it takes to be a leader. That mistake led to the death of herself and her family." Surely, Wingnut would not know Ebony had taken part in the slaughter. He enjoyed not a single moment of it, but his new master was strong and Ebony did not hesitate to follow his every order.
"If that is the course of things then I am skeptical about partnership. I merely seek to extend my bloodline in the least consequential way possible." Finally, his dull gaze passed on to Wingnut. He expected nothing from her. Though, he was rather eased that she had no more experience than he did. Perhaps she felt the same, and perhaps he was hopeful.
@wingnut Also this scenario is post-Lubrusca (Ebony plot twist)

Beta WingnutIf I Don't Understand, You are the one at fault It seemed that Ebony hadn't enjoyed the physical contact, despite the shiver running down his spine. Wingnut could agree. His nose against her cheek had created a zap of feelings to her brain, but it hadn't exactly been pleasurable. The residue of snot wasn't a part of mating.
"It appears not. I'd observed the Alphess of my previous pack with two partners. The first was killed. They'd had a litter. The event made her weak. If that is the course of things then I am skeptical about partnership. I merely seek to extend my bloodline in the least consequential way possible." Ebony shared his true intention.
At last, a male that she could share similar intentions with. She had no intention of forming a bond with him. She wanted to ensure that her genetics were passed on into the next generation with equally suitable genes, and it seemed that Ebony wanted the same. Blinking slowly, Wingnut climbed out of the heated water. Shaking the quickly freezing water off her fur, she turned her gaze to Ebony's. She wasn't scrawny, on the contrary, taut muscles rippled beneath her fur. She was made for movement, patrolling, sparring. Her children would be valuable members of any pack.
"Ebony," she began, facing the male with her lacklustre tones breaking the silence, "I would be interested in bearing children with you if you would also like to. I would prefer if you remained close by so that the burden is not placed fully on me and so the pups can have a responsible father figure." Amber eyes never left the submerged male as she spoke. Returning back to the heavenly water, Wingnut faced her potential mate. It was pointless to gauge his reaction - neither of them were good at that. Instead, she just waited for his answer.
