There were too many bodies around here. Wolves dotted every inch of the mountains, it seemed, including the pack he found himself a part of now. Plus so many of them were still young, it appeared to him that the majority of the wolves around here were under his age. He wasn't even really that old yet; young enough that he could still cause trouble but old enough not to. He very briefly longed for the time he was alone, but soon wiped that idea from his mind. Being annoyed by younger wolves was but a small price to pay on his path of redeeming himself for his past crimes. Plus, he could teach that annoying nature out of the pups he took watch over. It was the ones who were fully grown he had to worry about, stuck in their pride and not very willing to listen to ideas that differ greatly from their own. At least it seemed that Rowan wasn't too full of himself. The Beta was a strange one. He didn't know if she was overly confident in her abilities or if she just had no sense of self-consciousness. Either way, being around too many of them was what drove him to find solitude in the cave system that weaved through the mountains not too far from the area he now called his home. That, and the fact that he was supposed to be meeting up with another wolf, a female. He had a date for the first time in... ever? He never had a mate before, most females being driven away by his past aggressive attitude he held with the wolves he controlled. Now, older, he was dotted with scars and his face was a permanent mask of perceived irritation. He always looked cranky. It certainly didn't help that he sounded that way as well, but he couldn't change the deep gravelly voice that raked from deep in his throat, and as far as he knew his look was just the way he looked when his face was relaxed. He hoped this female wouldn't run from him as well. Yes, he was slightly embarrassed. He was new to dating, and especially new to whatever it was he used to get connected with this wolf. His manners were rough, to put it kindly, and he didn't want anyone he knew to see him stumble over a date. He gave a huff of impatience, doubting himself. Maybe she wouldn't even like the way he looked and would cut things short. Maybe he was too ungentlemanly for a mate. No more time to think now. He heard footsteps approaching. He quickly attempted to smooth his dark fur and cleared his throat, sitting up straight as the female found her way to the mouth of the cave. He dipped his head respectfully to her, something he had done for no one else. It was obvious, too, his movements were a little jerky, uncoordinated from not having had acted this way at least since he was a pup. "Hello," the brute greeted as softly as he could, but still he sounded too harsh in the quiet echo of the cave. He swallowed hard. It is... a pleasure to meet you in the flesh. I'm Junichiro, but you knew that already..." He looked away, knowing he would be blushing under his fur. He really wasn't good at this. He was a fighter, a protector if he used his skills right. "You can call me Jun, though."Salutary Hoshi

Hoshi wasn't the kind who would stray far away from her pack, and into the rogue lands. The rogue lands was a place full of mysteries, unknown dangers lurking in every corner. The salutary was very well aware of that, for the memory of Zero's death was still painfully fresh in her mind. It had been a month ever since the tragedy struck them. That day, Zero returned to the territory, full of bruises, wounds, and broken limbs. He was barely-conscious. Hoshi could still see the beta lying in an entire mess on the grounds in her mind; how she tried all she could to save his life, how she watched as his life slipped away right before her eyes. Guilt still lingered within the healer's heart. She had failed to save his life. That very same day, she also failed to save Tamlin's brother - Aedion. During the winter, while Hoshi busied herself with stocking up of herbs, she continued to mourn the passing of the two precious Noctis members, blaming herself for all that happened. It was her fault after all, she had failed as a Salutary.
Reminded of the pain, Hoshi lowered her head upsetly, slowing to a drag. No. I can't arrive looking like that. Straightening her ears hastily, Hoshi quickened her pace, not wanting to be late. After all, she didn't want to give off a bad impression of herself. While still uncertain and slightly worried about travelling in the rogue lands, Hoshi felt a rush of eagerness and nervousness in her. Boy, she hadn't felt that before. This was her very first time. Her very first time on a date. The star had no idea how the Tinder thingy worked. All she knew was that she had successfully found a date, and that they were supposed to meet in some cave? The two of them had decided on somewhere quiet after all, away from everyone else. Afraid of what the others in the pack might think of her, Hoshi had made it a point to set off earlier before wake-up time, only informing Luke that she would be off. Throughout her whole journey, Hoshi had gotten lost countless of times, after all she hadn't really travelled out of the territory for quite some time. Finally reaching her destination, Hoshi sucked in a deep breath, before disappearing into the warmths of the cave.
She wasn't the first to arrive. Heart thumping fast, Hoshi made her way deeper into the cave. Inside the cozy shadows, sat an ebony male. Emerald eyes watched as her Tinder date lowered his head in a bow, a little jerky. It seemed that he wasn't used to doing so. Politely, Hoshi gave a little tip of her head too.
"Hello, It is... a pleasure to meet you in the flesh. I'm Junichiro, but you knew that already...You can call me Jun, though."
Hoshi smiled back warmly, albeit a little too shy to look straight into his amber eyes. "My-my name's Hoshi," she found herself stammering a little. Get yourself together. "Nice to meet you, Jun." Hoshi began to glance around the cave, quipping: "It's-It's really cozy here, don't you think so? It's great to escape the winter winds for just a moment."

The first thing he noticed was her shocking emerald irises. The second thing he noticed was the mix of color her brindled fur was. A mix of browns and black with tinges of creams on her underside; she was breathtaking. She was also a bit younger than him, at least by a year, year and a half. No matter. If she didn't mind, he didn't either. She looked a bit shaken when she stepped in, but as she spoke, he just read it as simple nervousness. He could relate, and knowing she was just as worried about the date as much as he was helped settle the knot in his stomach. She returned the dip of his head with a nod of her own, looking around he cave and commenting on their surroundings. It wasn't the fanciest spot to meet up, perhaps if they went further inside they'd see a larger area with stalagmites and water, the damp walls glistening and colorful. But he wasn't any more comfortable being deep in the cave as she probably was. Exploring wasn't what he was here for. Nonetheless, he agreed with her, wanting to get a conversation going and not let it die out and get all awkward. He wasn't the best handling social situations, so he really wouldn't know what to do if it got to quiet and he couldn't think of anything to say to her. Deep honey eyes watched her as she moved, shifting to sit up a bit straighter and puff his chest out just a little bit, making himself look just a little larger, thicker. "I agree. I'm used to the cold, but it is nice to feel some warmth every now and then." He took a moment, racking his brain for things he should talk about. He should ask her about herself. Get to know where she was from. "So, where are you from? I just joined a new pack not too long ago. Before that I was wandering around by myself for quite a while. I must say, even if they may get annoying sometimes, being with a pack is better than being alone." White-streaked lips split into a brief smile as he spoke, but slowly faded. He was reminded of his early years "leading" a group of murderous wolves, a time when he felt more alone than ever. He knew that even his own members could try to ambush him in his sleep, so he had trusted no one. Letting others in like this was definitely a new feeling, and while his instincts told him to shut himself off, he new if he did that then this date would go nowhere. Salutary Hoshi

Now that Hoshi had settled down, she began to notice that he looked a little grumpy. Hoshi flattened her ears against her head, afraid that she had said something wrong, but when Junichiro spoke again, she was glad that he still sounded light-hearted. "So, where are you from? I just joined a new pack not too long ago. Before that I was wandering around by myself for quite a while. I must say, even if they may get annoying sometimes, being with a pack is better than being alone." She couldn't help but crack a little smile as the ebony male sat up a little higher, maybe attempting to look larger. It didn't seem to work, but Hoshi thought that it was a nice try.
"Yep, being alone is rough. I kinda admire those who live out here in the rogue lands all by themselves. Must be really hard on them." she began. "I'm from Noctis," she answered, jade eyes admiring her date. "I really love my pack. Everyone looks out and cares for one another. I'm kinda glad that I didn't stick with my siblings." At the mention of her siblings, maybe Hoshi did miss them a little, but not as much as she missed her mother. Looking back at all that had happened, Hoshi was starting to feel a little sentimental. She lowered her head a little, her gaze falling to the ground. Well, she had came a long way.
There she was, drifting off again. Pulling herself back to the topic, Hoshi lifted her head back up again. For the first time, she met the Junichiro's amber eyes. Hoshi's heart nearly skipped a beat. Embarrassed, she immediately shifted her glance somewhere else, to his tail. "Which pack are you from, by the way?"

She expressed her admiration for rogues who roamed on their own, a smile lighting her features and her striking eyes gazing over his form in a sideways glance, sizing him up without trying to be obvious. She seemed happy to talk about her pack, Noctis, and explained she had split from her own siblings to join the pack. He understood. Family members rarely stayed together in the same pack their whole life. A lot of juveniles seek their own path when they come of age, or look to make their own family unit. Then he saw the way her head sunk a little, reading between the lines that there was some sort of scar there. He didn't want to make her depressed! He grew worried that he had just successfully ruined this date by bringing up bad memories. Maybe he could help by connecting to her with his own emotional scars? Or maybe that would make it worse by digging into the topic... He realized she was speaking again, and her eyes met his. Wow, what a color. It only took a second before she looked away again, her gaze moving to his tail, or the floor. One or the other. "Sorelus, is the name. We just established out own pack grounds and made the big move from these rogue lands. I've recently been appointed General as well. Probably due to battle experience, as you can see," he nodded his nose towards the large scar on his chest. It was the biggest of all the scars, after all. "My youth was spent causing chaos. I made one very wrong call and it cost me everything. I suppose I joined a pack filled with apprentices after all this time to teach them not to make the mistakes I did. Not to go down the wrong path. You know?"Was he talking too much about himself? He cleared his throat nervously, his own eyes now looking away from her to inspect an oh-so-interesting crystal outcropping in the wall. "You smell like herbs. Are you a salutary?"Salutary Hoshi

Sorelus. It didn't sound familiar, but then again Hoshi had never been in the rogue lands for what seemed like forever. For all the salutary knew, four strong packs roam the lands: Noctis, Ferus, Somnus and Lubrucasa. But this was way back then. Having stayed within her pack territory for the longest of times, Hoshi wasn't surprised to find herself lacking in any new knowledge of what was going on outside the borders. How many packs are there out there now? Sorelus probably wasn't the only new addition. Junichiro's explanation confirmed her theory - Sorelus is a new pack. Hoshi found the courage to look up again, just as the ebony wolf went on to talk about his rank: "I've recently been appointed General as well. Probably due to battle experience, as you can see." The fighter directed Hoshi's gaze to a large scar which streaked across his chest, which the salutary hadn't noticed before. She let her jaw fall open a little. How could I have missed that?
With the imagery of the angry, open wound, blood gushing out, Hoshi couldn't help but wince away quietly. It must have been a really nasty one, terrible. Only a terrible fight could have caused that. As much as Hoshi didn't fancy fighting, she admired the immense amount of courage and daringness Junichiro had. It must had been really frightening to be out there fighting. She now held a whole new level of respect for the general. The male then went on to his backstory, which instilled a sense of pity in her. She felt bad for him. "I made one very wrong call and it cost me everything." He didn't explain further about the "wrong call", which left Hoshi pondering what he had done. Of course, it would be rude and absolutely out of place to bring that up. It could ruin their date, for all she knew. She didn't want to bring up some bad memories for her date. Hoshi was soon glad to find out that the general decided to pass on his knowledge and life lessons to others, and teach them not to repeat the same mistakes her made. It did make up for whatever he had done in the past.
Then, the topic changed to her. You smell like herbs. Are you a salutary?" Amazed at his successful guess, Hoshi disclosed: "Well, yes, I'm a salutary. When I was younger, I tried to teach myself about the different kinds of herbs you can find in different habitats, and the different medicinal effects they have upon wolves." Was she talking too much about herbs? "I was appointed salutary because of my knowledge about healing. However, I had not always been successful in healing everyone. Unfortunately, I failed to save two lives quite recently... Her voice trailed away. There we go again. Hoshi still couldn't quite let go of Aedion's and Zero's deaths, the two lives which she had failed to save. "I guess I still have a long way to go in learning about herbs and stuff." she concluded.
"How's it like for you as a General?"

Even with how large the scar was, even if it was faded, his date seemed shocked when he pointed it out, as if she hadn't even seen it before. Maybe she really had. It was warming to know that she didn't judge him by nit-picking his appearance. When he changed the topic back to her, she spoke up gently, confirming his suspicions. Most wolves have a faint smell of herbs when they are in a pack, but she smelled so strongly of it he could only deduce that was her position. As she spoke of how she started being an herbalist, he listened intently, his ears shoved forward and eyes directed at her once more, even if he couldn't exactly meet her eyes. She had lost a couple lives recently. Jun was used to seeing bodies, and had been desensitized to the deaths of his own for a long time, but he had seen that if affected the kind hearts of salutaries harder than the other pack mates. They took each death as a personal failure, and tended to blame themselves for not being adept enough at their craft to save the life. But it was bound to happen someday; no one's track record was perfect. "You could be a salutary for three lifetimes and still lose a pack mate. It is a part of life, and accepting that is a part of the job. Some injuries are too deep to heal, some wolves just don't have the strength to fight. It is not all you when you're healing another. It is as much their fight to survive as it is your fight to save them." He stepped closer to her, in an attempt to comfort her. Now just a foot or so away from her, his deep amber eyes met hers. "Don't blame yourself for everything. We are all learning, no matter how old we get. Nothing is for certain, life especially." He paused, realizing how close he was. He took a step back, processing her question. "I mean, I'm used to leading warriors, and it isn't any different from what I used to do. I just have to be easier on training, and remember I'm not in a warzone. The pack isn't looking for any trouble, and we are hoping that trouble won't find us. But I know better than anyone that we need to be prepared for it, because no matter how nice they are, not everyone is going to be nice back."Salutary Hoshi
