Some might have thought that four months of freedom would have served her fairly well. What idiocy — any sane wolf knew there was no such thing. For four months, she and her children had been hunted, mercilessly chased to the farthest reaches of the earth without so much a moment’s rest. Zayn and Lotus had grown, to be fair, and having an extra set of noses was always useful, but the pair could never smell exactly what she could. She’d insisted, commanded them to open their mouths, cock their heads, but to little avail — no matter what she did, they would never sense the army perpetually looming behind them, stinking of soot, sulpher, and death. Never once, no matter how painfully hard she asserted her claims, did they display any sign of believing her. Now as for concern, there was plenty, but for genuine belief? Not so much a scrap in either gaze, which made her all the more desperate. Did they think that it was merely a matter of fun, that she’d rouse them both at the earliest crack of dawn weeping, for she could already hear thundering pawsteps on the horizon coming to drag them back to the caverns of Ignasia? Did they assume that it was for her own pleasure that she insisted for running hours on end to outpace their army? It’d been anguish for them, true, but it’d been just as much hell for her. Zayn had grown in Master’s image. The terrifying, primitive terror that’d gripped her at his birth had only amplified. Something in his crimson gaze cruelly haunted her, terrorizing her in nights when she felt certain of their safety. They’d flicker sometimes, flashing with familiarity whenever they came upon something similar to Ignasia’s lands, and in those moments it took every shred of severed restraint to refrain from screaming. The similarity was haunting — doubtlessly, a punishment bestowed thoughtfully by her tormentors. They’d given her a flesh and bone reminder that her days were numbered, that sooner than later, she’d be stashed back into the breeder’s den with a new litter, another set of pups she would be forced to carry but could never consider her own. And then there was Lotus, who, like her brother, had seen the likeness of the old lands, often claiming she heard soft whispers when nobody spoke. At first, Miyako had insisted they extend the duration of their travels, so as to outpace these voices once and for all, but alas – no matter what she tried, they remained an ever-present anguish in her and her children’s everyday lives. One of them had asked her if they voices ever went away. She’d told them she didn’t know. Which was a lie, because she did know, and the answer was no, they’d never go away, and they’d be stuck forever. No matter how much distance she put between them and the Mountainside Creek, the visions and voice were there, and there they’d stay. The thought had plunged her into despair so deep nothing could completely rouse her awake, not her children’s pleas, or her own hunger, or never-ending, desperate need for rest. She hadn’t spoken for weeks — not words anyway. What did exit her maw was a stream of muddled, unintelligible murmurs, rushed and hoarse. Her babbling had no defined limit, as ceaseless as the steps she took, but perhaps her pups preferred it to her silence, for silence always prefaced a fit of delirium in which the army was at their heels. They’d found some fine homes, some lovely spots that had they lived in a happier world, would have made for marvelous homes, but to little avail. All of them had been horribly exposed, everything short of an open invitation to re-capture, and so they’d passed on. This new land was lovely as well, lush and green and filled to the brim with blossoms, but it too, was temporary. However, for now, they’d a brief opportunity to rest for a moment. Her children had warned her when they first entered it was a land inhabited by another pack. They were delusional, she decided. She hadn’t so much as caught another wolf’s scent, and they’d already made it to their meadows. Considering the guards that Ignasia had, if she hadn’t sensed one by this point, she was certain they didn’t exist. Besides, the blossoms would help cloak their scent and drown out the eternal stench of sulpher from her nostrils — in her eyes, an opportunity to oddly fortunate to pass up. “Stop,” she stated flatly, faltering as they passed the trees. She dropped herself onto her shaky haunches, twitching from exhaustion rather than terror for once in her life. “Master won’t find us here,” She quietly sighed, arching her eyes towards the heavens as if he’d eyes there too. “Not for now.”Alpha Luke Alphess Wren Zayn Lotus

Time skip: 4 monthsEven after the distance they had put between themselves and Ignasia, Lotus could still hear their mother's reassuring words echoing in her mind. "We are free." she could clearly remember how those three words summoned up whatever last attempt to comfort her and ignited that spark of hope within her. After the torture inflicted upon their mother. After the loss of Stanley. After the sudden, rushed separation from Lotus' five other siblings, that including Rome, Mutt and Hound. Hope was all the little one could cling on to, but with every passing day, it seemed to fade more and more away. Their so-called "freedom" was a lie, an entire illusion. It wasn't that they were being hunted and scavenged for - it seemed that their brutal father had given up on the two of them and their mother, and didn't see the purpose of recapturing the rather useless trio. It was their mother's delusion that Ignasia or Mortiful devils were lurking at every corner, that chained all three of them, from the ideal "freedom" they all longed to have a taste of. At every turn, every new terrain they lay their paws on, every bush they brush pass, their mother would bark her head off exasperatedly without warning, lashing out orders about "dangers". "Sniff harder!" "Look harder!" Her desperate, husky orders used to cause Lotus' heart to nearly stop, but after weeks of listening to the same commands, she eventually learnt to shut them out. Every single time Lotus obediently followed their mother's instructions, she smelled nothing - there was no danger, no Ignasia, no Mortiful. Maybe she was imagining it like she always did, but even Zayn didn't detect anything that would potentially hurt them. It was exhausting, listening to their mother's stubborn protests about being stalked and chased by Ignasia's beasts. Even Lotus' iron-willed voice couldn't win over her repeatedly insisting that they were there. As far as Lotus knew, there was entirely nothing she could do to soothe the wild fear in their mothers' eyes, or calm her down. They were helpless. And even so, Lotus still loved them unconditionally. Along with their mother's constant anxiety of being watched, Lotus had began catching sights of a maned wolf. He looked quite similar to Quentin, black mane and orangish brown figure, but not quite the same in mannerism. The first time Lotus watched him sliding up to her side, she let an audible gasp of shock escape her maw, much to the confusion of both Miyako and Zayn. "Quentin..." she had murmured, only to be greeted with an even more befuddled look from her older brother, and Miyako having a worse panic attack. However, as the he-wolf made more appearances before her, he acted nothing like what their mother used to describe Quentin as. He was a gentle fella, who lay down beside Lotus and listen to her pour out worries. Sometimes, he even gave bits of wise advice to her. It later dawned on her that the brute was invisible to her families' eyes, and his gravel voice was unheard by everyone else except her. At first, Lotus thought of her extraordinary vision as a "blessing", only to later form the idea that maybe he wasn't real. Maybe she was making things up? With that theory in mind, she began to develop doubt for everything she sees and hear. What if she had been living a lie? What if nothing, in the end, was real? It was frustrating, now learning that she saw things that weren't there. How could she tell the difference between her visions and reality? Now, besides for Miyako and Zayn, nothing was guaranteed to be real for young Lotus. So, of course, Lotus had to confirm everything she saw with her blush eyes with the both of them. And yes, she slowly trained herself to not trust the maned he-wolf that strides up to her, although she couldn't help but listen to some of his words. As for her older brother, Lotus came to learn he struggled with visions like hers, things that were only there for him. While Lotus grew to learn how to cope with hers, Zayn didn't seem to be able to deal with his. He saw monsters, which he claimed were real and were absolutely terrified by. The only thing Lotus could do was to pull him close and comfort him with her gentle, sweet voice, but it didn't seem to work nonetheless. If there were any good things that happened during the four months of torture, it would be the sibling love Zayn continuously lavished upon her when their mother couldn't, looking out for her. He would often hunt for both Lotus and Miyako, as Miyako was now barely able to tend to her own needs. And while Lotus felt partly guilty for being the one and only recipient of any occasional love from their mother, she held on to the pride that she was still their mother's "favourite". As she learnt how to hunt, she always attempted to drag back larger kills than Zayn's. When he brought back a rat, she brought back an entire hare. Maybe Zayn had already given up on the competition with more urgent things to focus on, but Lotus hadn't quite let go of it yet, with quite the fight left in her. Even with the puppish competitiveness in her, she still loved Zayn dearly. Lotus' growth blossomed despite all odds, and she transformed into a beautiful, petite lady. Her pelt of ash grey surrounding her sides darkened into a charcoal colour. The light golden brown fur behind her ears and along the bridge of her snout was now a deep shade of coffee. Along with the more prominent darker shades, hues of silver and oak had also made their appearances on her thick coat of fur. While Zayn now towered above Lotus, she had now grown to a comfortable height which she could now turn to their mother easily without craning her neck upwards. Now, as Lotus tossed a sideway glance at Miyako, she was slightly taken aback by the rather calm face she held. It was a huge improvement from her usual edgy demeanour, but was rather odd. They were padding through unfamiliar lands, something which had became common as they lived their days as rogues. However, something was quite fishy about the meadow they were trudging through. As the warm Spring breeze swayed the lazy pink and white flowers, Lotus caught a whiff of several scents of wolves. Pack wolves. They were nearby, and the trio had intruded their territory. While Lotus couldn't be sure, she swiftly quickened her pace, and placed herself in front of their mother. "We're intruding a pack's territory. There are pack wolves here. We need to leave." Lotus explained sternly. "Now." Yet, their mother blatantly ignored her, and flopped down among the flowers. “Stop, Master won’t find us here. Not for now." A frown was creased on Lotus' snout. Master wasn't even after them. A slight troubled expression crossed Lotus' face as she gazed pleadingly at her older brother for help, before looking back to their mother: "Master won't find us here, but other pack wolves would. We're trespassing. This is no time for resting, Mum."Zayn @miyako

Makoto had gone out and without thinking, had fallen asleep in the meadow his father had named after his fabled adopted sister. She had disappeared before he was even born, and he had only heard stories from his father. How he had saved her when they first met. She was drowning, and Luke had pulled her out of the river before she could be swept away. From there she had become his daughter, and his father had given her a place within the pack. Makoto was enamored by the tales, and was told of how strong Feyre was. How beautiful and talented she was, and he wanted to know her, to see the pup that his father fawned over a more than Luke fawned over his true blooded sons. It was a fact that Luke didn’t love his sons as much as he portrayed, or at least, that’s how Makoto felt. His mother and father had split when Seven was pregnant with him and his brother, and the loveless relationship they held was now a bittersweet ending for their family. It was hard for Makoto to enjoy the presence of either without feeling awkward, or feeling as if there were something wrong. His mother and father were courteous of him and his brother while they were around each other, but something just felt wrong when he was with both of them together, even if they acted nice. He had come to the meadow to escape that, even if it were only for a night. He wanted to feel closer to his lost sister, to see if he could form an ethereal connection that only a pup would think of. But he wanted to get to know her, to know what it was like to have his father’s love and devotion. To be loved as he explained how he loved her. He wanted to know her, and besides all the reasons. He just yearned for family. His father and mother were his blood family sure, but he felt like the estranged son, someone who would never fully be loved by his parents. But Feyre sounded nothing like that. As he finally opened ghostly white eyes to peer out at the rising sun above, scents washed over him that were alien to the land. His home was familiar, comforting, but this shot through him with fear. There were wolves in the territory that were not of Noctis lineage or rank. He brought himself to his paws, albeit a little too fast as he almost went falling back down. Makoto was already growing tall, and his legs were no exception to this. The stilts he walked upon were nothing more than a hindrance to his already clumsy self. As he trotted forward to inspect the scents, he saw that there were three wolves. Two were younger, while the other was older, more than likely the mother. He brought himself closer, looking over them before clearing his throat, approaching cautiously. “Hello, I couldn’t help but notice you were in Noctis territory,” He spoke, looking towards them. “It would be wise to not trespass on pack territory if you’re looking for a place to stay. I’m sure my father would be willing to hear you out on why you’ve trespassed,” He spoke timidly, his voice being a little more authoritative than he thought it would be. Was that the right thing to say? Would his father go against what he said? The self-doubt that had sprouted was now budding quickly as he went over the fact that his father might just chase this she-wolf off without further notice. He felt himself heating up at the thought of his father scolding him for giving misinformation, and he kept his cool as best as possible presented to these wolves currently. He just needed to think logically and breathe. That’s what Haruka had told him anyways. @miyako Lotus Zayn

"Master won't find us here, but other pack wolves would. We're trespassing. This is no time for resting, Mum." Sanguine eyes softened as she admired at the blossoms’ beauty, deaf to whatever childish worries peppered her ears. How lovely they were! Cautiously, she craned her neck forward, allowing herself a brief moment to savor that scent. Had she not loved flowers, once upon a time? Something resembling a memory gently materialized before her, from a foreign time when the world itself didn’t breathe down her heels, when her sisters had all been alive and well. She was simply silly, sweet Miyako in those days, before she learned the world was cruel and those within it crueler. Flushed eyes flitted open, savoring the soft pinks of the buttercups. They were the same gentle shade as lotus petals. “I named you after flowers like that.” She muttered, recalling the reckless age in which rivers didn’t represent death. It was the most clarity her memories had yielded in years. “Lotus blossoms,” She drilled solemnly, repeating words, lessons she’d learned but were not her known. “Symbolize purity, capable of submerging themselves in muddy filth; only to once more bloom pink and pristine in the morning light.” She swiveled her head, almost happy it seemed — then, as swiftly as it came, it dimmed once more. Her child had warned her of trespassing. Did she not know it was impossible for them to do so? All the pack lands, the entire world had been overrun by the brutes of Mortiul and Ignasia. There was no reign here other than Master’s, other than Mistress’s, and she hadn’t sensed those two amongst them in days. It was a pleasant, ever fleeting peace. Lotus had said herself that Master would never find them here. Was he not always rallying his wolves at his flank? If he was never to be found, then his disciples had surely followed suit. Had they no worries other than these? Besides, she knew that flowers this fragrant could never grow in their incredulously thin mountain soil. For now, they’d wandered far enough for her liking, far enough to catch their balmy, rasping breath before bolting off again. By some inexplicable stroke of luck, they’d garnered the most elusive resource their journey had cruelly withheld — time. Their luck would not be so bountiful in seasons to come. It would suit Zayn and Lotus best to get to sleep now, but perhaps such an idle act was difficult when their lives were riddled with permanent worry. “It’s alright,” Mimi began in a half-attempt to reassure them. It was a preposterous claim. Nothing was ever alright, at least not with them. When they weren’t fleeing, they were dealing with haunts. When they’d handled the haunts, they would then have to handle the imminent threat of starvation. They lived their lives in endless cycle of terror, fear, and paranoia, and little had ever happened to break it. And yet in the midst of all their anguish and delirium, there were moments where they could briefly cling to an illusion of normality. It was these exceptionally rare, incredibly precious instances that rooted the remnants of her sanity, and she’d be damned before relinquishing them. She calmly settled her head on her paws, arching thin ashen jaws in a yawn. “Nothing can ever grow in Ignasia.” She recalled aloud, as if attempting to assure herself. Pragmatically, she pressed her nose into petals for certainty, just to verify that the meadow was, in fact, real. It was. She’d been imprisoned long enough to know their lands. There were rock caverns and caves and tunnels aplenty, but nothing they could ever consider calm and peaceful. Any abnormality as solid as this was tangible proof they weren’t in danger, at least for now. At least she thought so, until she heard the voice. In all fairness, it was a soft, gentle sort of voice. That wasn’t the issue. The issue was that it was coming from Mutt. She had immediately sprung to her paws. Every muscle in her torso had stiffened; puce fur prickled in tense horror. Pinkish eyes poured over his features, desperately comparing the youthful face to the tiny child’s she’d left behind. He was smaller than she thought he would be, but the coat matched, the same length and thickness of any Iberian’s. An ivory mouth clearly moved, but emitted no sounds that she could plaintively hear. “What are you doing here?” She interrupted, shakily ebbing towards him. “They’re—” She gasped, gagging back the pain the stream inflicted. “All—dead.” She took another step forward, practically forcing her son to take a step back if he hadn’t already. “Where are they?” She croaked, suddenly lunging forwards, her face hovering centimeters away from his muzzle. “Oh please tell me, please,” She sobbed, sorrel ears flattening against her skull. “I didn’t mean to leave them — honest I didn’t, I just didn’t—have—time. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, but you saw, didn’t you? How they all just came, how Master went—”A sudden realization struck her. “Father?” She wheezed as her breathing picked up pace. “Yo-u-u call him Father?” She spat as her upper lip twitched into a furious, pained snarl. “How—dare—you?” She slammed herself into him, forcing her prodigal son to the ground. “It’s not your fault,” She moaned, shaking her head. “They’re in your head. His poison has always been inside of you.” She gritted her teeth, her sides heaving with the exertion of holding him. “What has he done to you? Tell me, tell me!” She screamed, shaking at the fulfillment of her worst nightmares. “You’re taking me to them—right—now, and then I’m taking you with me. You will never see this horrible land, that despicable male you’ve the audacity to deem Father as long as I am still breathing.” It was here he broke away, making a beeline for the lands he claimed his Father owned. She followed suit, screeching with fury all the way. “You have them, don’t you?” She screamed, deaf to whatever calming words her children might have provided, running with all the speed she’d used when fleeing the stream. “You have no right! They’re mine,” She sobbed. “Give them back! Give them back!”OOC: Spirit , I absolutely loved Lotus <33 Her last post is gorgeous! Tagged: Makoto Lotus Zayn

R U N A W A Y Z A Y N
Four months of traveling hadn't given the trio time to heal at all. The one that appeared the most put together is Lotus, but sometimes Zayn caught the torment behind her blush hues. He would only avert his glowing, black orbs that can only be described as eerie, creepy, and horrific. His orbs were the damnation of the group, almost every wolf who might have taken pity on their mom was soon spooked away by meeting his eyes. Abnormal and chilling, he learned to keep his young head down when approaching anyone. Avoid the gaze. His mom seemed to do better with him when he no longer looked her way.
Zayn's only salvation was his ability to hunt for his family. That was the only thing keeping him going. One step in front of the other, he always looked to his family. One day he would rejoin the seven, if they were still left. Worry had set in his heart and every voice he heard, he begged for it to be one of the five. Would Tayla be lurking behind the next bush or tree? Would Myles have somehow managed to find him? Mutt and Hound would surely be able to track the trio if they so wished? Rome would probably, mosey her way to them in her own time, right?
In no time the trio had wound themselves up in a sticky situation. While Zayn moped about, his head idle, their mother had lead them to a dangerous place. Claimed pack land. How far were they in? If this was anything like Ignasia then they would surely be shredded. His heart plummeted and he looked to his mother with accusation and horror.
How dare she bring them here! How dare she let them be put in harms way! For the first time in his young life he felt rage course through his veins. He was about to start yelling at his own mother when a shy voice piped up. Head swung towards the source but before he could even manage to say a word his mother spoke.
Lower jaw dropped in horror as she went berserk on the stranger. At a closer look, the stranger was merely a pup his own age. Roughly. Eyes widened as his mother launched herself onto him, he moved to try to pull her away. Remove her from him, and as the three struggled the stranger bolted away. Then a painful wack with full force his him across the head and ear. A whimper and yelp left his mouth as he recoiled in shock. She hit him.
Adrenaline pumped through him, the only other way to keep them out of trouble would be to stop the stranger. Feet propelling him forward, he didn't look to his own mother or sister, he just needed to stop the other without harming them. This was a pack pup after all.
"Please," Zayn cried, his voice cracking from running at full speed. "I can... explain," he huffed out, slowly gaining on the other. But all too soon his momentum came to an abrupt halt. An adult wolf was walking his way, and everything told him to submit to her. She walked with power and power meant authority. Dropping to his stomach as he slid to as top he let out a whimper of distress.
"Please," he pleaded, eyes widened in fear. As she got closer he could see something that came out only at night. The tendrils that haunted him were there, reaching for him. His throat closed up and a tiny, quiet scream escaped wide jaws. Ears flat he shrunk away in pure fear of her. These tendrils came from her shadow. Was she the controller? Did these things live here? What did they want from him?
Closing his eyes tightly he rolled onto his back, his submission clear. His tail tucked tightly to his stomach as his ears pinned themselves to his head. He couldn't look at her, fear shook his entire frame. He needed to speak, find away to keep them from dying. From being killed by her.
"Please," he croaked, "my mom didn't," he gulped, "she didn't mean it. We... we're lost," he was wheezing, fear taking hold of his throat and mind. "She, she is mentally... mentally ill," he tried explaining, he could only guess who she might have thought the stranger was. "She... she thought... he, he, he was a lost pup, pup of hers, lo-lo-looks like my, my brother," he kept stuttering and gasping for air his throat restricted him.
He cracked one eye, a stupid, puppish curiosity. She was there in front of him, black tendrils dripped from her and began to encircle him. Another, silent scream left him before his bladder released in the purest form of fearful submission. "Please, don't kill us," he cried out and began hyperventilating. Eyes closing tightly as he breathed quickly until he passed out.

WORK CAN BE FUN IF YOU LAUGH A LITTLE
The walk to the meadow in the crisp dawn light as the sun continued its climb was truly beautiful. The scent of the blooming meadow nearby made the refraction of light through the dew droplets and the sun on her fur all the more enjoyable. The ghostly-eyed pup was still ahead of her. Wren hadn't made any attempt to truly catch up to him yet. Letting Luke's son enjoy his own stroll while she enjoyed hers, she knew she'd catch up to him eventually.
However, the tranquility of the meadow was interrupted by three scents that completely differed from flowers or the molded scent of Noctis. Instantly, Wren was on alert. Her relaxed posture tightened. She pushed her ears forwards, her posture upwards, and lifted her tail into her rightfully dominant position. The fact strangers were in the territory was undesirable, but with Makoto also in the same area, that made the situation dangerous. She cared deeply about every member of Noctis, but Luke's sons were especially close. She didn't want their relationship to be strained, but she knew that she would never be their true mother. Truly, she hoped that she could supply the two boys with a second dose of mother's love.
“Hello, I couldn’t help but notice you were in Noctis territory. It would be wise to not trespass on pack territory if you’re looking for a place to stay. I’m sure my father would be willing to hear you out on why you’ve trespassed,” the familiar voice of Makoto sent pride shooting through her. The teenager took responsibility easily, handling the situation at such a young age in a much more mature manner than Wren would have at the same age - she was sure of that. A soft smile settled onto her face as she approached, spotting the intruders and her step-son. It was a family, a tiny mother, a daughter, and a son. What their business could be invading into such a hidden part of Noctis territory would hopefully be revealed as Wren approached.
“What are you doing here? They’re— all—dead.” The first words out of the she-wolf's mouth were enough for a tendril of dread to coil within the Alphess' stomach. "Where are they? Oh please tell me, please. I didn’t mean to leave them — honest I didn’t, I just didn’t—have—time. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, but you saw, didn’t you? How they all just came, how Master went—” The stranger cried and moaned, getting much too close to Makoto for Wren's liking. Her pace was already increasing towards the clearly ill she-wolf when the worst happened.
“Father? Yo-u-u call him Father? How—dare—you? It’s not your fault. They’re in your head. His poison has always been inside of you. What has he done to you? Tell me, tell me! You’re taking me to them—right—now, and then I’m taking you with me. You will never see this horrible land, that despicable male you’ve the audacity to deem Father as long as I am still breathing. You have them, don’t you? You have no right! They’re mine! Give them back! Give them back!” The stranger's paws slamming Makoto into the ground sparked a rage like Wren had never experienced before. Her concerned trot morphed into an all out sprint ready to intercept her bolting step-son as he fled from the she-wolf's attack and bellows.
Swooping around the teenager's frame, her focus switched from the obviously crazed mother and the member of her family. Curling her body around his as she came to a halt, concern-ridden amber eyes scanned over his multicoloured fur for any sign of injury. Pressing her cheek against the top of his head, the Alphess murmured, "Are you okay, Makoto? You did well. Now we can deal with this together." With one more gaze into skeleton eyes, Wren resumed her dominant position, a disapproving frown etched clearly onto her features as she stood protectively between the foreign family and Makoto.
The approaching groveling frame of the son only caused more concern. He was hyperventilation, his words mere breaths as he pleaded, "Please, my mom didn't... she didn't mean it. We... we're lost. She, she is mentally... mentally ill. She... she thought... he, he, he was a lost pup, pup of hers, lo-lo-looks like my, my brother. Please don't kill us." With those final words, the young male's bladder lost control and he slipped from consciousness. At least he offered some sort of explanation for his mother's behaviour. Quickly stooping down to drag the young adult slightly away from his mess and make sure his chest was still rising, Wren was satisfied that another teenager hadn't passed away on Noctis territory. Turning her gaze, softened with the realization that this she-wolf was in need and not simply aggressive, Wren slowly approached the traumatized mother.
"You are safe here. I'm sorry for whatever misfortune has befallen your family, but I can't let you harm mine. My name is Wren, I'm the Alphess of Noctis, and I'm willing to escort you into the commons eventually, but first I want us to stay here and let you and your children calm down. I need to make it clear that this pup," She gestured towards Makoto with her snout, "is the son of my mate, and is not your son. If you try to harm in again then I'll have to escort you away from our territory." Her voice was soft, trying to soothe the tension within the tranquility of Feyre's Meadow. Her posture had softened slightly, but she was still on guard for any further outburst by the she-wolf, or from the daughter who hadn't said anything yet. word count: 988

Lotus' ears fell a little. Their mother paid no attention to her warnings, as usual. Instead, Miyako, as distracted as ever, admired the flowers that were flattering in the wind. A soft, lazy expression was written all over he snout, and her dreamy glazed eyes wandered everywhere. “I named you after flowers like that. Lotus blossoms. Symbolize purity, capable of submerging themselves in muddy filth; only to once more bloom pink and pristine in the morning light." Her voice was abnormally calm, and perhaps if this meadow was anywhere else but a pack's territory, this could just be the very moment of freedom Lotus had hoped that they would all get to enjoy. And when she saw the momentary flash of joy in her mother's eyes, Lotus was sorely tempted to succumb to convincing herself that the whole world would be alright - that the three of them would be alright. No, please don't. Lotus pushed the overly-optimistic thoughts away - the delusion that they would be able to lead carefree lives. Meanwhile, Miyako was murmuring away something sleepily which Lotus didn't quite catch. "We've," Lotus began when she thought the moment was right, but upon seeing a new figure approach them, her voice faltered. "Got-to-go."It was too late. A light oak male, a little younger than Zayn and Lotus, drew nearer. He was just a young pup, but a pack wolf nonetheless. There was no knowing how he would react to the three, seemingly rather threatening intruders. While he didn't seem like he can rip them all apart, he could easily howl for the others to come to do so. And what if this pack was just like Ignasia? Evil, monstrous beasts that would feast on them, or maybe take pleasure in deciding their torture? Lotus swallowed, putting herself in front of her family and pushing them back protectively. “Hello, I couldn’t help but notice you were in Noctis territory. It would be wise to not trespass on pack territory if you’re looking for a place to stay. I’m sure my father would be willing to hear you out on why you’ve trespassed." the young one spoke up nervously, his voice attempting to be authoritative. Nonetheless, Lotus was much more anxious than he was. How would their Mother react? Oh, how would Zayn react? Lotus looked over at Zayn and Miyako, wanting to confirm what she had seen was real. Before Lotus or her older brother could open their maws, Miyako spoke first: "What are you doing here? They're-all—dead. Where are they? Oh please tell me, please." The mixed expressions of confusion and fear was plain on Lotus' snout. She had no idea what gibberish their mother had blurted out, but it didn't seem like it would all end well. Concerned, she tossed a glance back at Zayn, but what came next was something she was unprepared for. "Father? Yo-u-u call him Father? Oh no. It all seemed to click, "Father" and "Master". Ignasia. Their mother think he was from Ignasia. And not just that, one of their siblings - Mutt pr Hound. As soon as realisation dawned on her, the image of Lotus' brothers who were in her mini clique resurfaced in her mind, and she indeed saw the striking resemblance. "Wait!" Lotus cried out. Without warning, their mother charged forward with all her might and threw the poor pup to the cold, hard earth. Alarmed, Lotus stumbled backwards with her ears pinned to her head and gave a squeaky yelp, not unlike Zayn's very own. “How—dare—you?” her voice broke into strangled-like gasps. Give them back!" Through her gritted teeth, their mother lashed out at the pup, while all four paws held him hard to the ground. "Mum, no!!" Lotus let out a high-pitched whine as she raced forward, breaking her usual calm demeanour. "He's not Mutt, not Hound!" "Please I can... explain," Zayn attempted to do the same, but before he could, another she-wolf came forth at full speed. Her tail was straight up high, an air of "dominance" surrounding her. By now, Zayn had reduced to whimpers. Lotus crouched down low and shivered, taking paws back while staring wide-eyed as the new wolf swooped over to the poor pup. After she whispered something to him, she turned to the trio. They were done for. "Please, my mom didn't... she didn't mean it. We... we're lost. She, she is mentally... mentally ill. She... she thought... he, he, he was a lost pup, pup of hers, lo-lo-looks like my, my brother. Please don't kill us." Zayn pleaded desperately, stammering and gasping for air. He was in a full panic state, and he was losing it. "Zayn, it's okay," Lotus mustered the calmest, and most soothing voice she could, rubbing her head against his comfortingly. With his eyes wild with terror, it was not long after, his bladder lost it and Zayn passed out. Lotus pushed herself up against his limp body, supporting him. "It's okay, it's okay, it's okay," she mumbled to him, watching the pack wolves worriedly in front of them. "It's not okay. Lotus," a solemn voice piped up - the maned wolf. "Run away." While listening to her mother's heavy breathing, Lotus tried all she could to block out his rather caring voice, but to no avail. It was bad advice- she knew it, but the more she listened to it, the more she felt connected to him. Whimpering to herself, she shot an anxious glance at the pack wolves, her muscles tensed up. If the pack wolf were to attack them, she would have no choice but to do the same, to fend for her family. "You are safe here. I'm sorry for whatever misfortune has befallen your family, but I can't let you harm mine. My name is Wren, I'm the Alphess of Noctis."Alphess? Lotus wheezed quietly, heart palpitating faster than ever. "And I'm willing to escort you into the commons eventually, but first I want us to stay here and let you and your children calm down." What had came next was the most unexpected - kindness and generosity from a pack. Lotus had her doubts about such kind acts, after the "kindness" they had experienced in Ignasia. After her offer, the pack wolf went on to continue with her stern warning about hurting the pup. "-Is the son of my mate, and is not your son." Her son? Lotus didn't dare to look straight into her eyes. Their mother had attacked her son, and yet she was willing to let them stay? That rendered much suspicion. Of course, Lotus was grateful, if what the Alphess had said was genuine and sincere. "I'm so... so sorry. We really didn't mean for this to happen. I hope-" Lotus looked to the young pup. "-he's alright. I'm so, so sorry. We're really grateful for your offer, but I'm afraid we can't stay for long, or...I'm not sure of what else we might do." "It's not okay. Lotus. Run away." @miyako Zayn Alphess Wren

The Alphess' gaze was odd mix of concern, sympathy, and guarded suspicion. The mother had yet to respond, but the daughter stepped forward shortly after her own speech. "I'm so... so sorry. We really didn't mean for this to happen. I hope... he's alright. I'm so, so sorry. We're really grateful for your offer, but I'm afraid we can't stay for long, or...I'm not sure of what else we might do." The daughter's response wasn't out of the ordinary. Wren expected something along those lines - unable to stay, fear not allowing the family to stick around, not wanting to endanger Noctis with someone that may be following them. For the moment, Wren remained silent, a nod acknowledging the young wolf's response. Before she went on making any decisions, she wanted to hear from the mother. Makoto was an important part of the whole situation too. Turning her gaze quickly over to him in case he had something to say, she would listen if he did, but either way return her amber eyes back to the potentially aggressive mother.

She was just on the verge of catching that callous, insolent brat she’d bred, seconds from snatching him up when her traitorous eldest took matters into his own hands. For all her anger, for every flagrant streak of her righteous fury, she found herself powerless against even the softest, flimsiest slips of strength. All it took was a light-footed spring; a buoyant, gentle bounce, and he’d managed to send her sailing off course and off-target. “You absolute bastard!” She screeched. Sanguine eyes seared with nothing short of absolute hatred as she thrashed and threatened and swore. Did he know absolutely nothing of the pain he and his siblings had caused her? Of the torturous labor, the long, treacherous nights when none of them fed, the days when none would spare her an ear to listen? How dare he? Fluidly, her foreleg lashed forwards, striking him across his face and head. A painful, anguished blow — but maybe, just maybe, it could give him an idea of just what exactly he’d caused her. The look she was met with was startled, wounded, but she felt no sympathy. It was exactly what he deserved — less than that, even. There was another she-wolf on the scene promptly, serene and tranquil and terrifyingly at ease. Miyako recoiled, flinching away from her son’s touch as she attempted to comprehend the words she spoke. Such was impossible — she could make out her children’s pleads, Mutt’s soft, moaning whimper, but her words seemed to vanish into air. Flushed eyes fixed on the moving, twitching mouth; the earnest, commanding eyes, but displayed no recognition. She was little more than one of his puppets, another poor lost soul that’d been properly shackled at Master’s side. One could almost conjure pity. “Infidels are not allowed off the Commons without an escort,” She quipped plainly, unblinkingly ebbing a step closer. “Such is unbecoming in the eyes of our lord. He must be very very fond of you.” Her voice dimmed, softening with something resembling sympathy. “Where are your children? You must have—” She shoved her nose under the she-wolf’s chin, inhaling deeply. “—born at least one litter. Wouldn’t care for less.” Thoughts stirred, flickering in and out of focus. “Seven I had,” She began, her voice hushed, whispery. “Seven pups. Born poisoned. Tried my best,” She choked softly. “None were good enough. Two slaves. One idiot. All monsters, except mine.”The she-wolf mentioned a “mate.” Did she not know such terms were of the old world? “There are no mates here.” She mentioned simply, as if reciting a well-known fact. “There are vessels, and studs, and pairings, and on rare, chance occasions destiny — but never a mate. Best not to delude yourself; drives you mad. Mistress told me so.” She fixed her gaze harrowingly against the she-wolf’s own. “What Master wills to be is our reality. Best to be calm; accepting. Else awful things happen. Have happened; will happen. You will learn to live with the pain.” She paused, exhaling deeply as she gently shook. “As all the rest of us have. Master is impenetrable. Mistress, immovable. Eventually, their poison will permeate the air and spoil the earth. Nothing that can be done against it. Best to be still. Savor the last blossoms of spring. There won’t be any left by the next.” She painfully shivered, still uncomfortably, awfully close to the she-wolf’s thin sorrel face. “I hope you’ll be ready.” She stated plainly. “My children are dead. Those that lived have picked the ground they’re willing to walk. We can roam all we wish. They will always follow. No escaping. No outrunning. Just postponing.”Tagged: Zayn Lotus Alphess Wren Makoto

In the darkness he heard the cries of his siblings. But they were not cries of pain, or torture, or even sadness. They were cries of happiness, laughter, joy. Slowly cracks of light flooded his vision, and there he was. Laying just outside of his den, looking at his family. A sense of home surrounded him, starring as his six brothers and sisters enjoyed the company of each other. Warm rays fell onto the group. For a moment, Zayn just breathed in the warmth. A smile slowly formed on his face, a sigh of content as an exhale. Tayla was there, the ever watchful one of his siblings. Her responsible nature and level-headed attitude was something he enjoyed in her. He trusted her with his life. He was glad to see the smile on her face, she deserved every bit of happiness that should come her way. He let out a sigh, that slowly rolled into a chuckle. The two made eye contact, her smile a welcoming one. " Come on, Bro, don't be such a sleepy head!" Myles was the next to chime in, his boundless energy and positive outlook rubbed off on him. The pup that he was grateful to call his brother had ran up to him. His sing-song voice echoing across the ground, drawing the attention of the others. " Sle-ee-pee He-ed!" then the weight of his much smaller brother landed onto his side. Zayn let a cough escape his lips in mock jest of his weight. " You're to heavy," he groaned, rolling on to his back, forelegs pushing into Myles. Laughter echoed through his ears, a smile danced on his maw. Two more weights were added to the pile. Real coughing from the weight echoed from him, groaning. " You two fat lugs get off!" He half-yelled, the laughter above contagious and he was soon laughing along with them. Mutt and Hound had always been the true trouble makers of the group, but he wouldn't have them any other way. The two brothers were almost as inseparable as Myles and Tayla, but their cooperation and synergy was what made them stand out. They only seemed to listen to one sibling though. " Ok you two, that's enough," his hero spoke from her shaded spot under a tree. Her half cocked smile the only give-away that she found the groups antics amusing. Rome, while the two butted heads, was the best to lead them. He would follow her if she asked him too, but he knew she knew that, and never needed to ask. He would be by her side no matter what they faced. As the weight left him, and he stood, she piped up once more. " Enjoy that nap? You slept half the day away, what had you been doing all night?" Zayn had no words for that, he only laughed at the poke of his horrible sleeping cycle. His eyes searched for the last of his siblings... weren't they all hear moments ago? Black orbs searched the area, no one seemed particularly distressed by his antic searching. Where was Lotus? Standing outside, further into the trees she stood. Although she did not wear a smile like the rest, and her eyes held sorrow. What had happened? Looking to the others he realized no one had noticed her. He tried to ask what happened to make Lotus sad, but words were trapped in his throat. The group seemed to be gathering up to leave, " We're going to go hunting, you're joining right?" Came Rome's question, slight authority was leveled in her voice. His eyes went to her, trying to ask, ' What about Lotus?' When he turned back to look for her, the forest had grown darker. Was the sun already setting? Looking to Rome, the others had already moved on, disappearing in the trees and foliage. " Zayn!" Lotus shouted his name and when he whipped around, he saw her getting swallowed in darkness. He cried out, moving to go help her, but then his mother stood in his way. He had no idea what overcame him but he cowered from her, and she grew, and grew, and grew. Until she stood as tall as grizzly, her eyes cried tears of blood. " It's all your fault," she screamed, her voice deafening. Pushing himself backwards, he tried to avoid her crushing him underneath her onslaught of attacks. She lifted her front paws up and came down, like she was trying to squash a bug. All the while screaming, " You bastard!" " All your fault" " I should've killed you while I had the chance!" " DIE!" Jerking awake Zayn let out a pained whimper, his throat was tight. The only thing that kept him calm was the overwhelming smell of his sister. Taking a deep breath and feeling the warmth of her, he turned his head into her side, pushing himself further into her. He didn't want to cry, but the subtle shaking in his chest was the only indicator that he was distressed. “ My children are dead." The world fell away around him, he stiffened. He couldn't tell which way was up, where had the ground gone. Why did it feel like he was sinking? The only thing that wasn't moving was the warmth of Lotus. Pushing into her, he tried to curl into a ball as small as possible. He wanted this world to end. Why had his mother said that? Were they not enough? He remember the hit to his head, the stinging pain still there. Was... was he not enough? He let out a whimper and clenched his eyes closed, hoping that a new day would begin. And that his old life would end. Sidenote: Because this is a dream his vision of his siblings after these long months will not be the same as who they are now.

Makoto’s white eyes kept on the trio of wolves that he had approached. The larger wolf was immediately on her paws, horror lit up within her body as she took a defensive looking position. Makoto was already starting to think that approaching these wolves was not a good idea, but they were in his pack’s territory, and it was what his dad would do, right? She stepped towards him, and at first, Makoto stood his ground. There was no way this wolf was going to get him to back down in his own territory. Her question however, sent panic throughout his entire body. What was she talking about? Another step, he finally took one back, not wanting to be too close to this she-wolf. She was obviously delirious. What had Makoto thought, approaching her? She lunged forward, and Makoto hardly had time to react. She was now mere centimeters away from his muzzle, the young wolf feeling himself panicking more and more. He hoped that maybe Haruka had followed him, or that someone had, and they would be able to help him. She was angry at him, saying something about how he could call him father, and as she went on and on and on, Makoto could feel the anxiety rising in his stomach, filling him with dread as he watched her. She had lunged, pushing him to the ground with ease. He let out a loud yelp, panic taking him over as he stared up at her, eyes wide as they took in the words that she was saying. Something inside Makoto was making his heart accelerate, making him lose himself as his vision went blurry, tears filling his eyes as he listened to her. His body moved underneath hers, and as she let him, he was immediately able to tear himself away from her, dragging himself towards the treeline. Someone help! His mind screamed as he didn’t dare look behind him. It was then that he saw a familiar figure, one that he would have almost crashed into if he weren’t careful. Wren’s comforting frame wrapped around him. Although she was sure she was only protecting him for his father’s ease of mind, he still found comfort in the way she was concerned about him. His panicking was calmed only a little, his white eyes not daring to look at the she-wolf that had been chasing him. He could barely process what Wren said, but he gave her a nod. His heart felt like it was going to come up and out of his throat, and was going to display its rapid beating for everyone to see. It wasn’t from the running. Part of it was probably from the sudden exertion and speed that he had taken up, but most of it was coming from the anxiety that riddled his body. He listened as Wren spoke to the foreign wolves, taking up their concerns and what had happened with ease. No wonder his father had picked her as a mate. As she spoke, he was hopeful that maybe she would refer to him as ‘family’. He listened in, his ears tuned into her words. But alas, she did not call him ‘her son’. Instead she referred to him as ‘her mate’s son’. His ears drooped slightly, but he didn’t let it show for too long. His ears were perked once more as he heard a howl come from the borders, his head turned to Wren, seeing what she wanted to do. They would need to come to his father’s aid, and there was nothing that he wouldn’t do to help his father, especially with how urgent his howl sounded. Makoto gave Wren one last look before bolting for the borders, knowing that even if his father couldn’t have his help too much, that he could try and give it anyways. -Exit to Eastern Borders- Alphess Wren @miyako Zayn Lotus

WORK CAN BE FUN IF YOU LAUGH A LITTLE
At last, the obviously broken mother seemed to snap out of her robotic state. However, maybe it was better for her to remain numb. Ramblings of a lord, infidels, and lost pups all burbled forth from the she-wolf, shoving her nose under the Alphess' chin. Quickly, Wren moved back a step to reduce the threat of such a delusional she-wolf going for her throat. The mother continued to babble, the illogical theory of not having mates and instead having pairings beginning to reveal the true horrors that she must have faced. The Alphess wasn't scared of the she-wolf. Instead, her heart ached for her. Something horrendous must've happened to her, repeatedly, for her to end up here.
She stared into the she-wolf's eyes as her speech finished, looking for any sense of reality lurking within her dulled pink gaze. She didn't know what she was actually looking for. Maybe a spark? A tiny glimmer of hope that couldn't be extinguished? She found none. Sucking in a deep breath, her focus was shattered at the sound of her mate's howl. It was loud, panicked. Instantly her heart pulled her towards him, wanting to assist in any way she could. Seeing Makoto's body have the same reaction, she gave him a sharp nod when he looked her way before he bolted.
"Truly, I'm sorry for your past. The only solace I can offer you is that you have two of your children here with you now, and that no one is currently on your trail. I can offer you shelter in Noctis' common grounds where you will have the opportunity to meet with our Salutary if you so desire to. If you don't, I will have to ask you to leave Noctis land," the Alphess relayed softly, her tone only growing harder at the conclusion of her direction. If the small family (thankfully, the son was slowly coming to) showed any inclination of wanting to take Noctis up on it's hospitality, she would escort them to the commons quickly before bolting to the borders to assist her mate. If they didn't, she would watch for a few minutes more to ensure that they were headed in the direction away from Noctis before sprinting to the borders. word count: 397 || Exit to: noctis border outskirts

As Zayn pushed himself into his sisters fur, just trying to calm his racing heart, calm his speeding mind, and just breath in the comforting scent of Lotus. How he was glad one sibling was able to escape with them. If it was just him and his mother, he shuddered at the thought of just how much worse their situation would be. He trembled as he took in breaths, his throat still hadn't relaxed enough to where he could take deep breaths without gasping for it. Words that were calm and soothing echoed over him and his small family. Black eyes moved from the darkness that was his sisters chest to the she-wolf that was once dipped in black tentacles. She was beautiful, and for a moment he could only stare as she began to stand and move away. Her last words echoing in his head, "I can offer you shelter" Shelter was something they all desperately needed, and for once he was going to make decision on his own. For them, he was going to be their protector. As the group left, he stood up from his sister, still shaking and still exhausted. He looked to her and bent in to get a kiss on the forehead, a small gesture of thanks for letting him nuzzle into her like a pup. "I think we should go, we need this," he said that, trying to stand tall and have confidence in his voice. But the small rasp from his earlier fit was still there, his head sagged a little. He felt the exhaustion closing in on him. He looked to his mother and then to Lotus, "Can you get her other side?" he asked his sister softly as he moved against Miyako in an attempt to start herding the group towards the commons. If Miyako would resist he would look to his sister, regardless if they followed him he was going to stay here. This was going to be best, and he was gonna try to get them to follow him. "This will be for the best, I promise you," he said, mostly speaking to Lotus. His black eyes pleading with the both of them. Exit to Commons. Alphess Wren @miyako Lotus

And as if the dangerously comforting voice was not tempting enough, the actual brute came into view to persuade the poor she-wolf. The silhouette drew nearer to them, from merely a blurry figure to a solid-looking one. He's not there. He's not actually there. Frowning in confusion, Lotus repeatedly told herself the same words over and over again, afraid that she might actually lose herself in this terrible nightmare. There was no one else beside the Alphess except for the young one. However, her eyes couldn't focus on the towering, grey lady. Instead, she found herself anxiously watching the maned wolf who chanted the same words, his tail swaying earnestly. There was an uneasy warmth in his eyes - all too fake but Lotus wanted so much to believe in his advice because she had no one else. "It's not okay. Lotus. Run away." But no she wouldn't, and couldn't. This was what was left of her family, and she knew she had to protect it at all costs. "You're too heavy," Zayn blurted out, seemingly whispering to her. Blinking, Lotus attention turned back to her sibling at his soft, feeble voice. Suddenly, she felt his whole weight crashing back onto her, remembering that he was still leaning against her slim frame. Legs trembling under the weight of her older brother, Lotus pushed herself up higher to prevent herself from collapsing sideways. She wanted to turn to him and breathe: "You're the heavy one." But Lotus knew that Zayn wasn't really there - he was living in his own world for the moment. Much to her relief, he seemed to be slowly gaining consciousness by the second. The slight distraction from the maned wolf helped Lotus to concentrate on the actual living wolves present. Their mother's voice echoed in her ears: "Infidels are not allowed off the Commons without an escort. Such is unbecoming in the eyes of our lord. He must be very very fond of you." Lotus' pink eyes found the pack wolves standing in front of them - the young he-wolf more frightened than ever and a concerned expression on his mother's. With a soft sigh escaping her maw, Lotus lowered her head slightly, as Miyako rambled on and on. Their mother was oblivious to whatever the Alphess had offered earlier, instead lost in her own world as well. How often had their mother spoken empty words, her eyes wild - just not in front of a stranger. “As all the rest of us have. Master is impenetrable. Mistress, immovable. Eventually, their poison will permeate the air and spoil the earth. Nothing that can be done against it. Best to be still. Savor the last blossoms of spring. There won’t be any left by the next." Her words seemed to grow more bloodcurdling as she went on. Any wolf would at least feel shivers running down their spine upon hearing those words. Their mother, herself, was shivering like a leaf. Her last words sounded like a warning, a threat. Squeezing her eyes shut, Lotus looked up once again, her head pounding as she waited nervously for what the Alphess was about to do next. When a painfully desperate howl erupted from somewhere else, Lotus flattened her ears and jerked in alarm. Amazingly, the Alphess' patience and kindness still lingered, her offer still standing. Lotus still had her doubts, skeptically staring ahead at the soft . By now, Zayn had finally stirred. As he licked Lotus' forehead, she felt warmth spreading throughout her skull, soothing the headache. "I think we should go, we need this." Zayn's words didn't clear all of Lotus doubts, but she knew her brother knew what's best for all of them. Although Lotus would hate to be a burden to the pack, she knew that this was probably their only chance at a shelter, even if it was going to be temporary. Weakly looking back to Zayn, she nodded firmly in agreement. "Can you get her other side?" Mustering up her strength, Lotus ignored her protesting legs and slid up to their mother's left side. " We're going to be safe here..." Lotus gently assured their mother, muzzling her. " Master can't find us here." "This will be for the best, I promise you." Zayn added on, although he seemed to be mostly addressing Lotus. Gratefully, Lotus trailed behind the the large grey figure in front, leading them to the hearts of the territory. As much as Lotus wished that all three of them would stick together, if Miyako were to refuse to seek refuge in the pack's territory, Lotus would have no choice but to follow her instead. If their mother were to finally trust their decision and agree on joining the pack, Lotus would gladly follow the both of them. Alphess Wren Zayn @miyako
