I am re-posting because baby Skyla's introduction is now horribly inaccurate and I'm quite different than I was four years ago. Aren't we all!
So, hello again!
Call me Skyla, Sky, Dictator, or whatever you please that is remotely relevant to my general self. Four years ago I was indeed an angsty teenager who's idea of success involved only acquisitions and relationships. I'm still an angsty young adult, but those achievements mean half to me now what they meant to me then. They served as juice for my resume which got me a scholarship at my current university, where I landed as the only freshman vocal major upon auditioning. It was a feat and I was pretty proud of that, and though I still very much consider myself a vocalist, I'm more more a teacher than a performer.
My personal goals
Performing is fun, and combined with travel is absolutely exhilarating. But I have to say, my heart lies in teaching young artists, like my 4-year-ago self, who need the compassionate guidance of somebody who understands them within a harsh, deprecating industry. Currently, I work as a vocal coach and co-arranger at a beautiful recording studio that is truly the only of its kind. We differ in that we educate our artists so that they can grow as creative individuals rather than auto-tuning the heck out of them and sending them away 8 hours later with $15,000 in our pockets. I've been there, and I want to make sure no hard-working, talented artist is deterred from their own passion like I was by an industry unfit for the pure of heart.
In the future, I plan to teach at a private school (because I do not want my salary to be regulated by a government who knows nothing about my individual work performance). Over summers, I still plan to work both at the studio and at home where I can prepare my school students for an advanced a capella chamber choir. Maybe someday I'll even get my Doctorate and teach at colleges. But who knows where I'll be or what I'll want? (: I'm also considering getting a second credential in English because it's a subject I've always wanted to teach. I used to think creative writing was my only writing ability, and I hated essay prompts, but in the last few years I've actually fallen in love with rhetorical analysis and want to share its fun with stubborn young adults like myself! I also happen to be somewhat educated in litigation and professional communication, both from business courses and from learning from my mother, an executive litigation specialist.
**Site Owner stuff**
I suppose I should talk a bit about TPR and my role here. I have owned this site for 4 years, and have had Violet alongside me for almost 2 years <3 I joined as a member three years prior to making the original forum here (credit to Violet for our winter theme!), after the original owner passed on ownership. Eventually, I created thepackroleplay.com and tested my skills with the artsy fartsies, but design is not my primary role here
That being said, if you have questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions for our community, roleplay, or websites, please shoot a PM on here or Discord! Veteran members and staff also know their way around the forum and can help you with about anything.
About TPR
I want to talk about this place because it's important to understand that we're not just a roleplay. I, and the majority of us, would not still be here if roleplay was our only feature. Despite the fact that we are "realistic," and we do have several fun exceptions to that rule, I want TPR to be a place where people can express themselves through writing and learn from each other. TPR helped me become the writer I am, and I want to give that to other people. It's my #2 goal next to providing a community where people from all backgrounds feel welcome, loved, and excited to be here. We play games together, connect our plots, help each other with our writing endeavors (congrats to Flint for her marvelous essay that got her a full ride at uni!), and help each other cope with outside issues. It may sound silly, but I've been here since I was 12 years old, and seeing TPR blossom over so many years into the community it is today is an achievement that I hold very close to my heart. So, if there is anything I, or we, can do for you to give you a meaningful experience here, always feel free to share your voice.
If you've come this far, you're probably expecting a conclusion, but I'm not done (;
Contacting me
I'm on campus 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. However, I do have breaks that I spend on TPR every day. My laptop is almost always on me, and my phone is never away from me. Can't live without y'all! You can email me personally at skylarayne@pacbell.net, and I respond within 30 minutes, on Discord I'm pretty much always online, but I won't respond if I'm in class. I am most active on weekday mornings and weekend nights, and I am available in periods throughout the day, but this can vary.
That's all! Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and this little community. I appreciate all of you, and if you haven't joined us yet, I encourage you to create a character and join the fun! Happy roleplaying <3
Sincerely,
Sky
