The hunting grounds are an expanse of plains with small divots and ditches rolling gently throughout it. Within the grasses, one can expect to find many small creatures, mice, rats, hares, and garter snakes to name a small few. The majority of the plains are dotted with plentiful herds of whitetail deer, elk, moose, and American buffalo. During winter, these herds tend to migrate slightly around the plains or over to the river, but the food is never too far away from hungry mouths.

When it comes to small game, the player can choose whether or not their wolf makes the kill. Please keep in mind that a wolf does not make a successful kill every time, usually a best two out of three. Also, please note the territory you are hunting in and the prey listed. Please do not roleplay otherwise unless given permission by the Alpha(s). Please give adequate details and length for lone small game hunts.

Hye-Su stood in the hunting grounds, small puffs of breath were visible as her sides rose rapidly. The run she had was enjoyable but now she had to put on her game face. So far, no one else had arrived. She could hear the footfalls of Simon and Azrath not too far from behind her and as they circled around each other, Niqo and Karini also showed up. Twizzle should also be around the corner, perhaps out of sight? She wasn't sure. "Alright," she spoke up, taking a step forward. She looked to Simon to see if he would be stepping forward as well. Either way they would work together and not fight for authority, or at least she hoped. "Azrath and myself will scout ahead, we will bring back information and let Simon, Niqo, and Karini decide the hunting plans from there," she looked to the others for confirmation. If they agreed, she would move a head looking to Azrath to see if he would follow. They would move about the trees easily, "Let me know if you see anything," she would say softly, eyes darting around, her nose flared to take in as much scents as possible. If they did not agree, she would look to who voiced their disagreement. "Alright, what plan do you have in mind?" she would quip their way, her voice remaining steady and quiet. @twizzle @niqo Scout Azrath @simonn @karini

Niqo had been enjoying his time in the new lands. The handsome young male was aging on what felt like sped-up time with his fellow pack mates, slowly but surely developing into quite the charming little gentleman, as mannerly as ever and his eyes the only thing that hadn't really changed about his appearance. It felt so good and almost powerful, to be their own pack and have their own territory. He felt like they were able to be compared to the other large packs, except for that hellish one. He had been enjoying his peaceful time in the commons, exploring areas and finding his own personal den, as well as making little chat with the other members of his pack and slowly trying to befriend them, or at least be on positive terms. He had yet to make any close friends, but he believed he could say that he was on friendly terms with most anyone in his pack, excluding Junichiro and Helios, who he really didn't know very well. Upon arriving at the hunting grounds, Hye-Su took initiative to get things going. "Alright, Azrath and myself will scout ahead, we will bring back information and let Simon, Niqo, and Karini decide the hunting plans from there."Niqo nods and sounds off a, "Sounds good to me!" and looks at his fellow peers to see their responses. Azrath followed behind Hye-su, still sticking rather close to Karini in case she wanted to ask for help. He knew how much it sucked to feel inadequate and wanted to help in any way he could, even if it meant just showing that he was there to show support. When Hye-su called out to the group, he perked up, padding closer to the female and nodding in acknowledgement of her idea. It was as good as any, and he followed suit behind her, sending one last glance towards Karini. The snowy male lifted his muzzle to the air to see if he could smell recent activity of deer or elk. It was faint, barely registering in his senses as he looked to Hye-su. "I smell something, but its very faint. It's headed up North." he spoke softly as his alabaster eyes searched the floor for hoof prints.

Hye-Su nodded as he spoke of his findings. Follow the scent now that she had something she tracked it to small herd of elk, the bull was nowhere to be seen at the moment. Perhaps somewhere behind the group? They were mowing about, looking for food through the snow as they were continuing north. Although, they weren't really moving at any significant speed. "They're a possibility," hushed opinion spoke, plum eyes looking back to the white male. "Although without knowing where the bull is would pose a risk," looking to him for his own opinion of the potential brunch. Black ears swivelled to keep an ear out for any other potential dangers or opportunities. Scout Azrath

Upon arrival, Simon leaves his brother’s side to stand beside Hye-Su, honeyed gaze focused unerringly on the stoic female as she presents her idea. He doesn’t see any problem with it, so with a murmured good luck sent his brothers way, he watches as they depart to scout for game. With a heaving sigh of impatience, he turns back to the remaining wolves - Karini and Niqo. Though he hadn’t really interacted with Niqo much, he remained rather fond of Karini. ”Alright, no use lazing around like useless lumps while they look around.” He utters gruffly, golden gaze calculating. Simon wasn’t the smartest wolf out there, but never let it be said he was dumb. It seemed pretty clear to him how this hunt should go down.
”Azrath and I are the biggest wolves here - but we aren’t the fastest. When we start going after whatever game Hye-Su and Azrath find, my brother and I aren’t going to be much help in slowing it down.” He states casually, hind leg coming up to scratch at an ear. ”Obviously we’ll run this crap by Hye-Su whenever she comes back, but I’m thinkin Az and I work together to drag it down after you guys have already injured it.” He glances at the two of them, searching for any objections.

"They're a possibility, although without knowing where the bull is would pose a risk," Hye-Su responds, and the two of them become endeavored with the task of planning and finding the herd. While they begin their own task, Simon turns to Niqo and Karini, ready to initiate the next part of the plan. "Alright, no use lazing around like useless lumps while they look around. Azrath and I are the biggest wolves here - but we aren't the fastest. When we start going after whatever game Hye-Su and Azrath find, my brother and I aren't going to be much help in slowing it down. Obviously we'll run this crap by Hye-Su whenever she comes back, but I'm thinking Az and I work together to drag it down after you guys have already injured it," Simon says, resting his gold eyes on his peers. "I can play that part," Niqo says with a small nod. "We can probably direct the game towards you while we do so." He adds, looking at Karini to see what the female may pipe in with. He was excited to work with the other adolescents, and to be grouped up with Karini on a specific role. Niqo needed to get to know his colleagues more, he often contemplated. He had made a friend when he had first joined the group of rogues, Mint, another pup. However, Mint had been gone a while now, and Niqo had not made any significant progress relationship-wise with anyone in Sorelus. Hopefully, after today, he would be a little closer with some people. APPRENTICE HYE-SU OF SORELUS
Hye-Su decided to stay and wait to see if the bull elk would return or not. A few moment dragged by, then another. Finally the beast of an elk returned, his horns stood tall upon his head and his body looked round as a tree. Eyes followed its movement, her body shifting as they beast swepped their positions. The bull starred but didn't sound the alarm, meaning they were out in the clear.
"Now that we have visual on the bull, we can decide what we are going after," she affirmed softly, eyes scouting the potential meals. She had picked two, an elder doe that was centered on the outskirts but with the arrival of the bull he seemed to take to making sure she was in the center. Then a calf, seemed to not stick to any particular female closely so maybe losts its mother?
"We have the elder doe the bull seems to dote after, then we have that calf, he doesn't seem to have a mother, might be easier pickings?" Plum eyes looked to Azrath to see what he would say. Rising from their positions once a decision was decided she followed their trail back. Coming to the group she spotted them planning, a small smile on her lips at their productive behavior.
"Alright, we picked the baby elk in the group, should feed everyone fine, and it is without a mother," her words were crisp and soft, not particularly any tone either. She looked to Azrath to see if he would present any additional information.

Snow colored eyes fell onto the bull which Hye-su had spotted first as he seemed alert but continued to graze once more. As brothers do, as Simon spoke his piece, Azrath mentioned the same to Hye-su as they scouted onward. The calf trotted and bucked around in the grass a ways off from the buck, all the other does minding their business grazing and swiveling their ears to listen for potential threats. “Simon and I are the largest, when we find what we want, he and I will run interference on the big guy..” the alabaster he-wolf mused as she gave the options between the older doe or the younger calf. Azrath juggled his thoughts, weighing the pros and the cons between the two options they had. “Yes, I think going after a doe he dotes on is an easy way to get gored by his antlers. The calf seems relatively unprotected so I think it’s our best bet of success. And if his mother isn’t close, it should be pretty easy to separate him from his herd.” This was the most thought he had put into something, normally he would just fool around and wrestle with his brother as someone else took the lead, but his time with Junichiro and maturing a with age started to push him into a more dominant stance. He followed closely behind his cohort, a silly smile falling on his maw as his brother came back into view. “Yes, he seems relatively unprotected, we were unable to spot a doe particularly that he belonged to. Simon and I could run interference on the buck if he tries to play hero if you all try to flank and separate the little thing.” the apprentice chuffed, his eyes falling upon the rest of the group waiting for their own input. @niqo @simonn Scout Hye-Su @karini

Karini watched as everyone milled about heading off to do their portion, they really were giving it their best effort, she had to give it to them, but the silver eyed female never moved from her spot, watching the happenings with downcast eyes and barely an ounce of hope for success. The gray pelted she-wolf gave a huge yawn, licking her lips nervously, they all needed to do well here but bringing her along was bound to send things into total chaos, however she couldn’t have refused them and so here she was, waiting to make the hunting plans while Hye-Su and Azrath scouted everything out. Finally, Simon, the large, black furred, yearling male spoke up, “Alright, no use lazing around like useless lumps while they look around. Azrath and I are the biggest wolves here - but we aren’t the fastest. When we start going after whatever game Hye-Su and Azrath find, my brother and I aren’t going to be much help in slowing it down. Obviously we’ll run this crap by Hye-Su whenever she comes back, but I’m thinkin Az and I work together to drag it down after you guys have already injured it.”Karini remained quiet, she just stared blankly at Simon, she couldn't care less who made the plans, all she needed to know was her job, the less involved she was the better, not that she was lazy or anything, she just feared messing one of the other wolves up. Then Niqo piped up, giving his opinion of the whole situation, “I can play that part.” Karini saw him out of the corner of her eye as he gave a small nod a reassurance for himself and Simon, “We can probably direct the game towards you while we do so.” Karini’s ears swiveled the moment he said we, and the depressed she-wolf averted her eyes from Simon to glance fully at the other yearling, he had always been kind enough, and so she gave a small nod of agreement, “Yeah, we can direct the game,” her soft voice came out, letting them know her agreement of the whole situation. That would be her role, simple enough, nothing to screw up there, just run whatever animal Hye-Su and Azrath had decided upon into the the two big wolves. Before either Simon or Niqo could continue talking, Hye-Su and Azrath appeared once more, immediately revealing the information they had gathered while scouting. Hye-Su spoke quickly, “Alright, we picked the baby elk in the group, should feed everyone fine, and it is without a mother.” Immediately following her Azrath put his own voice in as well, “Yes, he seems relatively unprotected, we were unable to spot a doe particularly that he belonged to. Simon and I could run interference on the buck if he tries to play hero if you all try to flank and separate the little thing.” Karini slowly stood to her paws, shaking out her gray winter coat, time to get to work, the sooner this was over with, the better, and hopefully everything went well so that they didn’t have to do this again. @niqo Scout Azrath Scout Hye-Su @simonn

"Yeah, we can direct the game," Karini pipes up, and Niqo glances at her before another voice catches his attention. "Alright, we picked the baby elk in the group, should feed everyone fine, and it is without a mother." Hye-Su speaks and Niqo thinks inside his head that this is almost too good to be true. "Yes, he seems relatively unprotected, we were unable to find a doe particularly that he belonged to. Simon and I could run interference on the buck if he tries to play hero if you all try to flank and separate the little thing." Azrath adds. Niqo nods at his partners and an excitement starts to buzz in his toes. This hunt felt like independence, being able to do this with his fellow young pack members. It was as if they were finally being treated like adults. "Well, maybe our next step should be to go to the herd so we can all see the calf and buck, then we can choose our spots," he says, feeling that they are close to starting this thing, he just wants to make sure that him and Karini know the position of the buck and that everyone knows where everyone is and will be. @karini Scout Azrath Scout Hye-Su

Azrath nodded as it seemed the group agreed with the plan they unfurled. With a nod from Hye-su to carry on, the brute moved forward, crouching low to the ground as he set careful paws softly to the ground beneath him. He assumed the others would follow suit as they moved closer.
Looking back, Azrath pointed his snout at Hye-su, Karini and Niqo, using his snout to indicate that they should take their places on each side of the herd aside from the treeline. In a hushed whisper, he spoke, "Wait for my signal, once everyone is in place, you can run in. Focus on nothing but the baby elk right there." He motioned to the little thing, curled up sleeping. Next he looked to Simon. "You stay here with me, we'll focus on the Bull and keep him occupied. The does should run for cover expecting him to protect whoever we're targeting." With a quick nod, he prodded the other three towards their positions. When he was satisfied with it, he brushed his shoulder against his brothers, muttering a quick good luck before lunging himself towards the bull with a snarl. Paired with his brother, the two circled around the male, nipping at his legs, pushing him further and further back towards the treeline as chaos ensued behind the two brothers. Hye-su charged from the right as Karini came from the left. Niqo was close behind from the treeline itself, snarling and barking at the does as they all disappeared beyond the trees. The buck, once he knew the majority of his herd were safe, turned tail and ran behind them, kicking out his hind legs as he went, nearly striking Azrath in the head. "Let's go!" he shouted before he ran to the others who had done a good job taking down the little baby, as it lay lifeless on the snow. "Great job, everyone!" he barked out, his tail thumping wildly behind him, the adrenaline from their first solo hunt coursing through his veins. The snowy brute picked up their prize and dragged it along back to the pack to show what they had done.

Niqo looked attentively at the scout in front of him, awaiting his words as he saw his gaze meet his own. "Wait for my signal, once everything is in place, you can run in. Focus on nothing but the baby elk right there." Niqo looks at and remarks the small thing, curled up. It didn't even know its life was about to be thrown into chaos and then ended. Azrath gave more directions yet to Simon, and then the hunt was initiated. Everyone got in their positions, impatiently and maybe some, nervously, awaiting the start. Niqo himself was excited, he loved the excitement and entire process of a hunt. Soon enough, in a blinding sort of blur, the wolves were out in the open and Niqo felt his body surging with energy as he helps to direct the animals. The buck followed the does that they had chased off, leaving behind the lonely and panicked young one in an effort to protect the more useful of his herd. "Let's go!" says Azrath, directing all of their focus to the target. Once it lay on the ground, no longer breathing, Azrath happily congratulated everyone. Niqo nodded and looked around at his peers, glad that it went so smoothly and that they would have something good to tell the pack. Feeling good and beaming, the bright-eyed young male helped drag the thing back to the commons, eager to tuck into what he had helped bring down. || Exit to Sorelus Common Grounds || Scout Azrath Scout Hye-Su @simonn @karini

They’d gone deeper into the Hunting Grounds than they typically would. Perhaps he should’ve emphasized this. Doubtlessly, the wolves that followed might have expected their typical light-footed trek past their grazing prey, straight to the base of the dotted cliffs that cloaked their land from view. There, they would scan for small divots, obvious hiding places for predators, and throw a fine racket. There’d be plenty of growling, snarling, and snapping; a loud enough ruckus to alert any half-deaf creature within a fifteen mile radius that there were wolves on the prowl, and that’d be the end of it. They’d trot back with both their tails and heads held high, perhaps snatching a small calf, just for good measure, on the way, and be greeted by their eagerly waiting packmates at the commons in celebration. A simple conclusion to what to them must have appeared to be a painlessly easy mission. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be quite so simple as that. The cougars in these parts were crafty, thoughtful creatures, and weren’t quite so careless as they had first imagined. It had taken around ten minutes of mindful prying, but eventually, his wolves had managed to catch the claw marks , carefully embedded in the beaten old bark of a well-aged oak. A few minutes further investigation unveiled multiple, at least two grown adults on their hands and one adolescent. Hopefully, there would be no cubs to complicate things, but so far, all evidence pointed to the three having set up shop further uphill, deep in the mountains. So they trekked. Mountain lions were solitary for the most part, but on chance occasions, they traveled in pairs. The adolescent lion, in all likelihood, was ignorant to the existence of the other two, or it wouldn’t have come to their claimed territories. An unfortunate addition, but it’d be their easiest battle. Rowan paused, taking a moment to sample the mountain air. One was close — though whether it was the adolescent or one of the pair was anyone’s guess. Regardless of the cat, it was time they split. “You’ve all got a good idea of what we’re dealing with,” Rowan started off thoughtfully. “Three lions, two paired. We’ll split off into two groups; one to take the adolescent, one to take the pair. The adolescent cat should be simple. It’s young, likely on its own for the first time, and shouldn’t have much experience handling other predators. For it, I’d like Hye-Su, Karini, and Niqo to step up. Well time you three learned to handle your own predators anyways.” He teased gently. “The rest of us will track down the pair, but I’d like us to strive towards separating the two lions. When we do separate, I’d like for Wingnut, Helios, Kodiak, and myself to take one lion. Junichuro, Edon, Moose, and Valencia should take the other. As long as we all move in our groups, we should finish this without accident. Questions?” Hunter Edon Hunter Kodiak Hunter Moose Apprentice Valencia @wingnut @helios Scout Hye-Su @karini @niqo

Hye-Su was only a tad nervous, the rest of her was full of excitement. Even though this mission held risk and was important, and needed the utmost seriousness. She couldn't help but be a little excited to do an actual fight. She scouted around, split up only far away enough to see each other and hear each other, but distant enough to cover ground. Eventually someone spotted what they needed to find.
Further information gathered was three lions. How peculiar, after discussing this issue at length with those with experience she knew that they travelled primarily in solidarity. Perhaps this cat was simply too young to understand there was a couple here? Perhaps there was more to it.
Knawing at her cheek in thought, she stopped on autopilot. Blinking she looked to Rowan, taking in the words he was saying. She would split away from him and the others, with Niqo and Karini. Looking to her friends she gave them a nod. Setting out she tracked the scent of the young lion until it was closest to being fresh. Crouching down into a hunter's prowl, she flicked a tail for the others to do the same.
"When we encounter it, let me grab its attention, Niqo with your size and skills you'll do the most damage so you'll go in to do heavy hit attacks, Karini and I will jump in to drag its attention away from you, if you look to be in trouble Karini and I will double attack to give you time to gain composure," she spoke in a hushed, clam tone. "Do you agree?" she looked to the other two for confirmation.
