Guarded placidity gripped narrow, gaunt features for the first portion of his speech; the softest, faintest shimmer of curiosity gleaning within garnet stained eyes. Lingering suspicions lolled, however lightly as they might've, transparently between the bizarre pair, piercing her pinked gaze. For the faintest, briefest flash of a second, the brute could have sworn he'd seen pain, sorrows deep-set beyond any brinks of recognition. Wholly natural, by all means - yet somehow, as swiftly as they'd appeared, all previous traces of trouble vanquished with a wonderfully bright fixedness, a ferocious determination she'd long since decided on. How completely, utterly captivating; the way each torn ear attuned itself towards their his tremulous unraveling, how each magenta eye managed to maintain such wholly singular focus. Why shouldn't she? He precariously held the answers to every question she could have ever had on life's outcomes, closure to her most traumatic memories. Internal conflicts rapidly came, equal parts torn between a blind, angered hatred and a captivating, eager curiosity. Pity for Pandora! The murderer of pups and young adolescents! Sorrow for suicidal Ferus she-wolves that had their wishes presented on platters! If the tables were turned, he'd spit between the balmy idiot's eyes for daring to shed a sympathetic light. Surprising that she hadn't by this point.
Surprisingly enough, she never did. Soft, modest slips of intrigue sliced through hastily thought attempts of concealing them; the tiniest, slightest twitch of a smirk. Slight, pursed smiles. Chuckling well concealed within coughs. An even, placid expression dripping emotion through wide, thick cracks. A delightfully failing disguise. And suddenly, the small portions seen thus far weren't enough - he wanted more. To piece together the complexities of her reasoning, her logic, and make sense of it all. To somehow tap the source of that driven, dull-headed determination. To understand and unravel her, at her core, and find what about her captivated him completely. Ludicrous, in literally every sense of the term. Lubruscans were foolishly weak, unfit warriors, thriving solely through sheer luck and other wolves' good will - not her. Likewise, he must've appeared every bit a bloodthirsty, power-hungry barbarian, a primordial savage only capable of furthering his own self interests - not far from truth. Both had been wrong. The small Lubruscan she-wolf had commandeered his respect, displayed a degree of ferocity, a tenacity overly worthy of his admiration. But she, if he'd read her correctly, saw a shimmer of something beyond Ferus brutality, something wonderfully strange and peculiar and - fascinating.
A brief moment of silence as she contemplated a possible answer, aglow with the widest of possibilities. “Well, for one thing," she began sharply, clouded hackles curled in an irritable, angered arch. "My Alphess is a complete and utter ass. One who’s lost all sense.” A soft, amused puff escaped from ebony nostrils at her audacity; carelessly blunt candor. Hatred rivaling that of his own comrades dripped from each festered word; coarse, angered contempt sounding each syllable. Animosity, bitterness far beyond what he would have expected towards a wolf she would've theoretically pledged herself to. A lifetime's worth of overlooking in favor of favorites. “Why would I follow the directions of a leader who made an infant Delta?” A brash, irritable bark of laughter - and then, as swiftly as ferocity entered, it stole away. Whimsy amusement waltzed once more into magenta eyes; marvelous, playful mischiefs undoubtedly in store. "But," she began slowly, flicking a feathered tail teasingly. "I suppose I helped you because I wouldn’t pass on seeing you some more.” Sly, coy slickness curled from clouded lips, arching one alabaster brow in mock curiosity. Magenta eyes matched his in firm intensity, unyielding in a search for something he'd yet to be aware of.
I could say the same. He wanted, craved to forge a friendship between them - it'd been the most genuine interaction he'd the privilege of having since his birth pack. Lacking any outside agenda, any malicious anterior motive, any customary tongue-in-cheek courtesy. Speech was delightfully blunt, honest despite any dreaded truths. Candid air casually lolled between them, zinging with a wonderfully zesty wit. Sincerity he'd failed to find in any in Ferus - he wouldn't be willing to let that go simply. Alpha's personal agendas seemed petty; self-centered; an insensitive, narcissistic intrusion on what otherwise would have been a beautiful friendship. Why let that reign? As if anybody needed to know in the first place - and with a wonderful stroke of thought, it struck him. Nobody ever needed to know. Not a single Ferus soul - Lubruscan, for that matter! They could easily conceal it, the two of them, without any wolf being the wiser. A small, playful smile tugged the corners of an onyx mouth as he considered the possibilities. Yes, it'd be perfect - by day, playing gentle, perfect angels, fulfilling their ranks to the best of their own given abilities - by night, basking in the other's presence.
"Why don't we then?" He quipped, cocking a broad dark brow. A golden amber gaze clashed against her own; a soft, amused smile curling the corners of charcoal lips. "I enjoy your company - I'm afraid I can't say the same of many. You're still every bit as intriguing as you were at the start of the conversation. The best I've had in - years." A low, gentle laugh passed through parted jaws, precariously angling pitch fur towards the tiny sliver of silver light above. "So why should we ever have to end it? In fact, if I recall correctly, Alphas in general tend to be, 'complete and utter asses' about everything - so why shouldn't we have fun?" He adjusted his head once more, meeting her marbled gaze. "Nobody ever needs to know. Our secret - you and me. We can meet by moonlight, at the halfway point here, at the new moon, quarter, half, and full." He stretched his jaws into a yawn, lifting a forepaw lazily. "I'm not sure about you, but I definitely wouldn't pass on seeing you some more - and I don't think tonight was nearly enough."
