PUP CECILIA OF LUBRUSCA
Cecilia had a long day and was already dozing off with her brothers talking around her. The den smelt of Dad and family, closing her eyes she drifted to sleep. She was awoken when the pup squirmed and cried louder. Shifting she opened her eyes and saw a familiar figure moving into the den.
Their Aunt hadn’t visited them too often in the den since they started eating meat. She missed her plush red fur. Moving forward she pushed her away into chest and plopped down sleepily. Yawning quite loudly, a small whine at the end before snuggling her nose into the fur.
“I liek yer storheys,” mumbled and muffled words escaped the fur as she snuggled again to adjust her body. She continued to move until she turned into a cinnamon roll squeezed tightly to her chest. Once Ventus started speaking she passed out once again. She’ll probably wake up once she moved to exit the den.

OMEGA MACHA
OF
LUBRUSCA
Macha unknowingly let out a squeak at the Alphess’ arrival. Star struck she froze. Unable to contain both fear and awe she let her jaw hang loose. Orange maw moved in command and eyes heated on her marbled frame. Just barely Macha moved in time to avoid a body bump from her leader.
Ventus. Ventus was something to Macha. She had yet to fully understand this new part of her life, and at the sight of the newest pack addition was even more confused. There was no doubt who the new bundle belonged to. Not only did Ventus strike intimidating waves over the younger she-wolf, she also desperately idolized her superior. She wanted to be like her, confident. But, Ventus also started to strike an aweful chord I'm her chest.
Mochi and Ventus’ relationship left a sour taste in her mouth. Not to say she disapproved, Ventus was a wonderful match for her father. She was very happy for him. But her mind went to dark places alone. And she began to wonder… does he still see me as his daughter? Did I force this relationship on him? And what does that mean for her and her other relationships? Is Ventus her step-mom? Does that make Devika and the others her step-siblings? Her head swam with these thoughts and she only had a vague idea of who to talk to.
Eying her blonde companion she didnt realize she had gotten quite close. So close that if she wanted to look him in the face she would have to angle her head to look almost directly above her. Blushing under her dark fur she didnt move. Almost like a waiting game of who would move first. All her worries and thoughts gone in these milliseconds of time.
Then Fenrir showed up causing her - or maybe Parker? - to move. Eyes immediately went to his mouth as he spoke. His speech deliberate and process. Much appreciated! Nodding in understanding she shuffled her feet, looking at the marks made in the snow.
“I… uh… will do my best to help,” she spoke slowly. Moving her tail to tap nervously against Parker for support.

For an odd reason, a spike of pain hit his chest when Macha missed the nod he had given her. In Ventus' state, she wasn't about to be kinda to the deaf yearling. Watching with a concerned expression, the blonde male scooted a little bit closer to Macha's frame scuttling away from the mouth of the General's den. As their fur brushed, the hunter caught sight of Lysic approaching, the one-eyed male seeming to want to start a conversation with the young adult. “Hey Parker, how are you doing? What do you think of everything that’s happened?” those kinds of questions were difficult to answer in their current circumstances. A wolf from Lubrusca's worst enemy pack had traipsed into the commons, sold some propaganda about a pack of wolves worse than Ferus, and suddenly there was a tiny pup in the commons. With a heavy sigh, Parker began to answer the yearling, "I mean, this morning was fine until someone showed up in the hunting grounds. The whole commons is just a little suffocating, I think I'm going to take a walk. Dev, wanna come with?" Grey eyes flicked over to the Alphess' first daughter, looking about as uncomfortable in the commons as he did. As Fenrir approached Macha to discuss something herbish, Parker returned Macha's tail tap gently. He didn't want the little angel to not know where he had gone, so just for a second, he stole her attention away from Fenrir with a flick of his tail in front of her. Mouthing the word 'borders' to her, the blonde hunter trotted away, hopefully with Devika in tow. -Exit to: Lubrusca Borders- Omega Macha Hunter Devika Beta Lysic @fenrir @y'all

The owl-faced pup's gaze swivelled between his siblings, his question hanging in the stagnant air of the den. Maddox was the first to pipe up, “Why! This is Snowbelle! She looks a lot like Mochi so I think this is Mochi and Ventus’ pup. Our new cousin! They entrusted us with the highest of responsibilities of watching over her, and telling her amazing stories! I think she’s hungry though,” He prodded his nose towards the pup who squirmed a little, searching for food. “I’m definitely not feeding her! I don’t even know how to nurse pups!” Stifling a small laugh, Nascha looked towards his eldest brother. For seemingly being the most responsible, he really wasn't all that smart. Their dad had never fed them as pups, the warm scent of their mother had surrounded them whenever they needed to feed. "Maddox, I don't think that boys can feed pups," the intelligent pup replied before he was almost thrown off his paws by the frantic form of Snowbelle's mom. “If you would like to know the actual name of your cousin, its Keala. She’s mighty hungry by now, so I should feed her,” Ventus almost snapped, her desperate plea to get at her pup blinding her momentarily. Nascha didn't mind. Their father had done a similar thing on a few occasions, anxious to get back to his pups at the end of the day. Letting the mother and daughter, now named Keala rather than Snowbelle, nurse in peace, Nascha almost moved to poke his head out of the den. There were a large number of scents outside of the den, much more concentrated than just the general scents of Lubrusca that washed in as a wolf walked past. There had to be something going on, maybe a celebration of Keala's birth? That would surely gather the pack in celebration. Why they had chosen to do it in Dante's den was beyond the young male, but surely it was a privilege to meet Keala before most of the pack. "Would anyone care for a story?" Ventus' much softer voice inquired the older litter of pups. His one awake sister quickly buried herself in thick ginger fur while murmuring what Nascha could only decipher as an agreement. The pale-furred male was always partial to a good story, so sitting back where he had just recently woken up from, the male gave a quick nod to Ventus. It was only small, but it was a good indication that he wanted to hear a story as well. Alphess Ventus Apprentice Maddox Scout Cecilia @basil Keala

It was no unusual thing for Devika to feel uncomfortable in her own skin; the towering female had not yet grown accustomed to her own increasing size. However, what was new was the sense of discomfort she felt in her own home at the moment. Though her mother had escaped into the pup’s den, therefore bringing the tension down, she could not help but fidget. Ebony was serious, Kai was serious, Mochi was serious - and this Ferus wolf was definitely serious. The atmosphere was almost unbearably tense, and she found herself itching to be anywhere else. The whole commons is just a little suffocating, I think I’m going to take a walk. Dev, wanna come with? Dev perks up, tail giving an utterly relieved wag as she clambers to her paws and pads after him. “Oh, absolutely.” She says with feeling, giving Parker’s shoulder a grateful nudge with her own. Thank goodness someone else was as anxious to get out of here as she was. Hunting Superior Parkerooc: super short but eyyy lets grab the boi

Their conversation was clearly tense, uncomfortable, the both of them not really knowing how to interact with each other. Fenrir was just plain awkward, mostly keeping to himself, and Macha had her own issues, so she didn't really talk a whole lot, which just made it even harder for the two of them to connect. He would try, for his sake and for his mother's sake. She was infatuated with Alpha Mochi and Macha was his daughter. He didn't have any reason not to like Macha, he just didn't talk to her often. He hoped he didn't screw anything up. What if he taught Macha the wrong things and it caused stress for Mochi when she did things incorrectly and then gets mad at him for being incompetent and then Ventus get angry and intervenes? What if his mother didn't really care? He wasn't exactly the athlete and champion warrior of his mother's litter. He wasn't even good at the salutary work he had been devoted to, up until Snow Rose fell sick and he had to devote his time to taking care of her. That was another thing that ate at him. Did anyone else even care that the salutary was so deathly ill? No one had offered any condolences, never asked any questions. No one ever stopped by her den to offer their help or best wishes, and she had been sick for weeks now. What if no one cared if she just passed? Would he be the only one to mourn the death of his mentor? The thought brought a shadow to his features, a dark cloud looming over his head that refused to give him reprieve. He shifted uncomfortably, away from the others, secluding himself subconsciously. He was the only one who cared. He may as well bury her himself if he was the only one who would shed tears. Macha was speaking. He did his best to pull himself out of the dark space his head was in, but it was most likely plain on his face that he was bothered by something. He took a deep breath, watching as Parker excused himself and trotted off, leaving the two alone in each other's company. Somehow this was worse than when the golden brute was sitting next to Macha and watching. "I... appreciate it. Just let me know if I'm moving too fast when I'm trying to teach you stuff and if you don't understand something. I have never taught anyone anything, so I might not even be good at it..." He could barely keep his head up so that she could see his mouth move and hear him clearly, wanting to look away and hide away in Snow's den. No one else cared about her. He was the only one who cared. They didn't deserve to visit her, look at her, pretend to care if and when she died, whether it be falling victim to her illness or just growing old. She was the only one who listened to him and treated him like more than just Ventus' pup. More than just the wolf who couldn't be mean enough to hunt or cruel enough to become a warrior. "Should we start now? I don't really know how this stuff works..."Omega Macha

While searching for his new sibling, Hydran could overhear and watch the others out of the corner of his eye, just barely. More voices flooded the conversation, Ebony, Prim and another female voice, one which he faintly recognized, and actually took a quick glance to fully be sure. Kai, the scout of the pack was the source of the sound, apparently she was volunteering. He didn't know much about the female, aside that she had fought on the war, gotten very hurt and that she was pretty grumpy. Relief passed through his body when Milo's head popped out of one of the dens, talking about someone named Snowbelle, which ended up being the lost pup, Keala. Everyone on the task seemed to feel the same, much more his own mother, who almost instantaneously found herself with the rest of the kids. On the center, the talk with the Ferus messenger went on. Can't they just zip it already?! was the main thought that clouded his brain at this point, finding the fact that he nor any of his siblings could actually participate. Hydran understood well, but it didn't make it any less sour. Devika could wear this guy like a scarf, why wouldn't they let her go? thought the young male, referring to the Stranger's small and slim appareance. It seemed that spite, just as enjoyment, made time go by faster, because when he was finally finished with his mental tantrum, the pup could see that the entire mob that gathered had discipated. Hydran could still see the guy from Ferus talking with four or so many wolves around the same spot as before, but Macha was nowhere to be seen, Devika and Parker had gone off to god knows where and his mother was at the den with all of the younglings, which kinda brought back memories of easier times. Only one who seemed as alone as him was Lysic, who seemed to just be sitting around the white floor. Coming up behind him, gathering snow slowly but surely, the young hunter realized his scheme. With a coordinated but strong kick, Hydran directed a snowball on to his unaware brother's back, giggling at the action. Post by Salutary Snow Rose on Feb 5, 2019 22:51:13 GMT -8
Creamy eyelids fluttered open to reveal the dazzling caramel eyes hidden behind them. Snow Rose groaned, her body still aching from the weeks of sickness that had racked her body. After expending all of her energy caring for the Lubruscan wolves ailments — injuries which had flashed through her dreams, haunting her with visions of melted skin, sizzling blood and charred wounds — she had run herself into the ground. Snow Rose hadn't been able to find the time to eat and sleep properly while she was worrying herself with the wellbeing of her patients, and while the cold-front had hit Lubrusca with gorgeous dustings of snow, it had hit her with a fever, leaving her confined to her den to suffer through her symptoms. At least she had been asleep for most of the duration of her sickness, the worst of it being the fever-dreams that plagued her exhausted mind while she rested, followed by aching and weakened muscles for her to awake to.
But today was different. Her mind wasn't clouded with that haze of sickness, and when she unfurled herself from her tight ball, her body didn't immediately beg her to fall back into her slumber. Snow Rose smiled at the progress, proud that the work Fenrir had been putting into her care was finally paying off. Heavens, she was so proud of that pup. If it weren't for her apprentice she probably would have wasted away into nothing by now, and it was this fact that caused Snow Rose to scold herself for getting sick in the first place. Lubrusca had become too important to her. She had wolves here that needed her.
She looked towards the entrance of her den. The snow had gotten thicker since she last dared stare at the grey brightness that spilled in from the outside. How long had she been asleep? A couple of days? Weeks? God forbid — months? Dread curled in her stomach at the thought of all that she could have missed. What if someone had gotten themselves injured while she had been away? She didn't want to leave Fenrir with that burden, he was still so young and she had only had the chance to teach him enough to keep her alive. Snow Rose needed to take more care of her own wellbeing to avoid something like this happening again.
A chilled breeze swept through the den, assaulting the drowsy female's warm skin and forcing that last bit of sleepiness from her body. She needed to get out of this den, stretch her willowy legs, and find Fenrir — the god-send child. Cautiously she lifted her thin body off the ground, limbs trembling for a few seconds as they adjusted to her measly weight. This was good. She was standing, and she wasn't feeling at all light-headed. Progress indeed.
Snow Rose stepped out from her enclosure, beautiful eyes sweeping over the riverside area that the Lubruscan wolves now called home. Familiar faces greeted her, and a smile graced her lips as her heart ached thinking about the time that she had spent so dangerously away from them all. She wanted nothing more than to make her rounds and update herself with the happenings of her pack, but their was one small wolf that she would have to find first: her apprentice.
The younger male wasn't hard to find, his handsome oaken figure accompanying a fellow youngling that she instantly recognised to be Macha. Snow Rose approached without hesitation, putting as much pep in her step that her still weakened body would allow. She came up on the pair just as Fenrir was finished talking. "Should we start now? I don't really know how this stuff works..."
"Know how what stuff works?" She interjected her slightly awkwardly phrased question with a gentle smile to her hardworking and diligent apprentice. Words could not describe the amount of pride that washed over her at the mere sight of him. She had always loved the idea of having a student learn under her guidance, and she couldn't be more grateful for the pup that had stepped up and sought her knowledge.

After his wonderful story, the den exploded with activity. Auntie Ventus barged in, stealing Snowbelle right out from beside her and tucking his baby cousin up against her. She also corrected the boisterous pups, giving the baby the name 'Keala' rather than the totally amazing name of Snowbelle that Milo had come up with. The spunky pup was about to protest for her name to be changed back to Snowbelle when the prospect of a story emerged. Finally, someone that actually had good stories could fill the den with their voice! "I LOVE stories!" Milo barked out, already snuggling his lanky frame up against Auntie Ventus. He didn't want to smush his sister or Snowbelle Keala, so he cuddled into another part of the limited real estate that was Auntie Ventus' fur. | Alphess Ventus of Lubrusca | Ventus watched as her daughter gratefully started suckling. Eating once more and seemingly becoming content with the new den that she was currently in. It was rather warm with all the pups that were currently occupying it, and she found Cecilia pressed up against her chest, rather sleepy and fully welcoming to the idea of a story. She hadn’t visited them much since she had become focused on her own pregnancy, but she enjoyed the company that the little ones provided. She wished that Elenor was here to see her own pups, but the female had passed soon after birth. Looking towards the other pups that gathered around, Milo found himself snuggled into her fur as well. It seemed that most of them would gather around her and be pressing their little warm bodies against hers. She took a moment to think about a story that would interest them. They had been born after the fire and after the war, and so a story of Joktan’s heroic ventures wouldn’t make much sense to them. But maybe something about Dante would work well, the pups would probably love to hear of their father’s endeavors.
“Did you know that your father once took on a mountain lion almost by himself?” She said, hooking them in with the starting of the story being something dangerous. “We were out on a hunt, and Devika was really close to making her first kill when all of a sudden this large animal appeared!” She said, her voice adding some suspense in there. “It almost got Devika but Dante heroically threw himself into the mountain lion. A huge battle ensued and your father battle bravely. In the end, he sent the mountain lion with its tail between its legs running back to the mountains it came from,” She looked to all of them with gleaming amber eyes. It was nice, taking some time away from pack duties and telling stories to the pups. She hadn’t let herself take a break from being Alphess for so long, that she felt relieved doing so. Looking towards all of them, depending on their reactions, she would chuckle, letting her mind wander as she thought of the innocence that was held in the tiny beings surrounding her. They knew nothing of war, nor any evils that lied within the world. They simply were told stories and played in the snow that surrounded them without fear of being hurt.
That was what she wished was true, that they could run freely without being possibly taken away or killed, but with the new threat lurking about, Ventus wasn’t sure if the peace they felt would last any longer than a couple months. The future held itself ominously above them, not giving them any hints as to what will happen. But right now, she could enjoy sitting with the pups, and letting their peaceful and innocent auras relieve the stress she carried so strongly with her.

Maddox"Maybe our future's so bright it fucking burns like a Wildfire." Maddox was worried on what to do with the mewling pup when Ventus came and saved the day once more. She appeared in the den rapidly, basically kidnapping Snowbelle from beside him. He was relieved that the pup finally had her mother, and that she would stop whining as soon as Ventus fed her. Ventus briskly told them her real name, pronouncing it as Keala. It was a pretty name, and Maddox adored it. Secretly however, he thought that the name they came up with the tiny pup was just as suitable for her, he wouldn’t tell Ventus, since she would potentially take it as an offensive comment. Watching as his siblings rapidly snuggled into Ventus, he threw himself into the pile, snuggling up to her and perking his ears as she talked about telling a story.
“Yes! Yes! A story!” He said, eager. His tail was whipping side to side. Noticing that he was coming close to hitting Keala with it, he stopped, containing his excitement mostly to his facial features. She began talking about their father. Oh, this would be good! He listened eagerly, ears held high as she talked about him fighting off a mountain lion. His eyes sparkled at the idea. Their father was so brave! “I know Dad showed that beast who’s boss!” He shouted, probably loud enough for his father himself to hear. Anyone that was near the den would hear the rowdy pups comment, and he looked to Ventus. “I can’t believe a mountain lion would attack Devika. Biggest mistake of its life! Wouldn’t it know that she’s tougher than a bear?” Maddox commented, looking towards Ventus. “Have you done anything cool, Auntie? Beaten up some bad guys?” He asked, looking towards her with a face that would definitely be irresistible.

L Y S I CHeir of Lubrusca Lysic’s one good eye looked towards the creamy male that he had approached, seeing that the question obviously made him uncomfortable, and it looked like he simply wanted to leave the common grounds. Lysic felt bad for having asked the male, especially if the question had made him uncomfortable. With his answer being that of a quick response, Lysic pinned his left ear against his head, listening as the male asked Devika if she wanted to go on a walk. Lysic let out a sigh, watching as the two disappeared to the borders. He was feeling a bit lonely. His mother was off with the pups, feeding his newfound sister. Fenrir was off with Macha, talking about herb things and something or another. Parker and Devika were off at the borders, and he definitely didn’t want to bother them. Especially since he had already ruined his chance of talking with Parker. Lysic had not socialized much outside of his siblings, and it grew a bit lonely when they were all off doing things, or being important. Lysic knew that he was supposed to be learning from either Mochi or Ventus, but he didn’t want to take on anything important right now, or have to listen to boring leader talk. The male simply wanted a companion that wasn’t an adult to be around. His prayers seemed to be answered as from behind him, snow piled onto his back.
Turning around, one brilliant orange eye locked onto his brother, Hydran. Smiling, he quickly retaliated, taking his paw and spraying snow towards his brother before sprinting away, snow flying behind him. He would easily be found, especially with his bright orange coat. After Erramun’s quick passing when they were younger, Lysic hasn’t found himself too close with any of his siblings, but he was definitely going to change that. Turning on his heel quickly, his hid behind a small snow berm, hoping that his brother didn’t see where he had gone.

The Alpha pair’s disdain hadn’t surprised him in the least. After all, he had been expecting backlash of some sort — only typical of Lubrusca to ignore advice in its best interests — but Mochi had taken an unprecedented aggression. His lips curled in an irritable, unconscious arch at the Ventus’s audacity as he suppressed a snarl in back his throat. She had some nerve to speak of a match, especially considering how Lubruscans (not to mention her former mate) always crumbled under the briefest of battles. As if she’d any idea what it meant to live everyday as a warrior first. Her entire pack for that matter knew nothing of that sort, wrapped up within frivolous, childish fantasies of family. Delusional, the lot of them were, unwilling to accept even the possibility of evil lurking beyond their beautiful lands. As if he’d nothing better to do than to come to Lubruscan territory bearing nothing but fanciful tales to spook pups. Perhaps they partially expected him to hop to his paws singing and dancing a jig; such a splendid entertainer was he! He lashed his tail irritably. If Lubrusca wished to leave their fate up to the Wolves of the Wood, then he’d let them. After all, then they could determine whether or not they were truly works of his own legend. “I’ve grown up on stories of those that were willing to lay down their lives for my pack.” A sweet voice softly rang. Flint turned in time to spot the sole daughter of Ventus’s first litter step forwards. Now that was Jokton’s daughter! She bore her mother’s elegance and her father’s strength, volunteering herself for the fight in tender, assured tones. A small, pleased smile found his features, just for a moment at realizing the sheer potential he possessed before him. This pure, spirited passion was exactly what missions like these called for; yet all seemed determined to eliminate it. Without hesitation, what he only presumed to be a General forbade his pupil’s future pursuits and yanked her away, perhaps to privately reprimand her for even considering embarking on such a reckless adventure. He rolled his eyes. Ventus’s pups, or Lubrusca for that matter, would never improve if they were constantly shielded away from danger. He found himself almost tempted to beckon the bright-eyed adolescent to him once the general finished his scolding. It wouldn’t take much to get her to follow him. Simply a short anecdote of the atrocities he witnessed would suffice, and she would surely disregard her mentor’s warning in the name of protecting her beloved pack. However, before he could enact such a plan, a familiar three-legged figure waltzed into his line of his vision. Kai — for one fleeting moment, his expression softened. Although it was incredibly, expressly taboo, he had missed her. The eyes that had once looked at him with playful wit and subtle adoration had now hardened at the sight of him. Despite him knowing it was best for both their sakes to play along, each pretending to know nothing of the other, bringing himself to hate her was impossible. Even as she leered over her shoulder, sanguine eyes searing with anger, he couldn’t help but return a quiet, affectionate one. The Lubruscan fire had surely inflicted some change within her. Now, she lingered by her Alphess, the same Alphess she had once deemed to be “impossibly, entirely incompetent,” awaiting a command for her future orders. She had requested to leave Lubrusca and follow him to assist his efforts, but whether or not it was for his sake or that of Lubrusca was a mystery. Yet while this Kai was a pleasant surprise, he found himself yearning for the omega he’d known that’d spit right between Ventus’s eyes and leave on her own, regardless of whatever her Alphas had previously commanded of her. "I know these wolves, what they're capable of." Flint’s ears flickered as Ebony hovered just over an onyx shoulder. "Lubrusca will not survive." Ebony hissed into his ears. While Ebony’s words were terribly, bone-chillingly true, hearing them voiced sent a shudder down Flint’s spine, the cold realization casually dawning upon him. Every pup, subordinate, and superior would be slaughtered by the next snow fall, and virtually nobody seemed to care but him. "If you truly are concerned about their survival, help me train them, and I will join you.” Brash laughter bubbled, irrepressibly rattling in his chest. Ebony, the ever logical, the emotionless fact-before-feeling rationale of Lubrusca, truly thought Lubrusca would be willing to listen to the likes of him. “You know your packmates would rather die.” He straightened his stance, meeting the midnight-dark beta eye to eye. “Oh yes, I could certainly give training a try, but you know just as well as I do I’d be met with resistance every step of the way. What good would that ever be? Lubrusca has already decided they don’t wish to believe. As if that makes the threat any less real,” he scoffed. “Ebony, you may try all you like, but I’ve far better matters to attend to than entertaining fools.” Suddenly, the Lubruscan Delta, a youthful girl of not quite yet two years, approached them, begging Ebony to stay. The display was disgusting, pitiful behavior, unbecoming of Deltas. No wonder Lubrusca lay in perpetual shambles. Swiftly, he rose, shifting his stance towards the borders. He’d already devoted more than enough time to these fools; it was high-time he began making his way back to his true home and gather the wolves there. Lubrusca was doomed, with his attempt to save it serving little more purpose than to showcase the sheer futility of such efforts. “Ebony, whenever you are finished with,” he paused, unable to conceal tepid disdain. “Whatever this is, I will be waiting. I’ve warned the lot of you. Now, if worst comes to worst, you can never say nobody interfered. I made sure of that. If you are still willing to follow,” he quipped as he assumed a traveler’s laid-back trot. “I’ll wait by your borders. Bring whoever else your Alphess has permitted to die in this incredible adventure I’ve conjured up.” He grinned, cocking a clouded head as he tossed it over his shoulder. “I wouldn’t worry too much though,” he purred. “After all, it’s only hear-say." Devika’s eyes dripped with tears, and he felt irrepressible sorrow. Poor darling — he hadn’t meant to make her cry. “Dad,” She rasped before her body stiffened, apprehensively mortified at her small, impassioned slip of the tongue. “Oh Devika, that’s alright,” he whispered fondly, swiping a sanguine tongue over her forehead as she pleaded softly. For a moment, he saw himself soothing Ventus’s smallest pup, the wisp of a girl that once regarded him reverently. She’d grown so beautifully since that first day, so charming, sweet, and full of life, but in his deepest heart of hearts, he’d admit he’d regarded the day that Devika would decide to grow up with dread. And now, it’d come far too soon. “I couldn’t forgive myself if my family got hurt while I sat at home, doing nothing.” She trembled as tears glistened, darkening the blanched fur beneath her eyes. Dante stepped forwards, tenderly resting his rowan head just atop hers. She was like him, soft-hearted and sweet-natured, perhaps a tad too much for her own good. He understood her pain — but Lubrusca’s sorrow if she were to die — it was incomprehensible. She drew away as Fenrir approached them, no doubt to deliver a brotherly reprimanding of his own, but left him with a final request. If anything ever happened, if any wolf were to be injured at the savages’ claws, that she would have his blessing to fight on in Lubrusca’s name. He dipped his head briefly, knowing full well he would do everything in his power to avoid such a terrible fate. “Don’t you worry Devika.” A soft, loving smile curled the corners of Dante’s mouth as he attempted to reassure her. “It’ll never get to that point. I’ll make sure of that. Just focus on your training for now.” He gave a low, gentle laugh. “You and your brothers make Lubrusca stronger every day. Anybody expecting an easy victory is in for a surprise.” Small pawsteps sidled up to him as he bumped her playfully, hoping to elicit a smile. Devika wasn’t quite so keen— and as he turned, he saw the reason why. Kai the Scout had returned with a catch, two plump mice to feed the pups. He smiled, dipping his dappled head in a brief thank you as she departed without a word. Kai was at best an oddity, one he could never completely understand but still yielding a quiet affection for. She could be abrasively brash, true, but she’d had a hard life in comparison to the other Lubruscans, and no one could fault her for that. ”Don’t be mad.” He cautioned Devika as the three-legged scout limped to find the Alphas. “What she said and did to you was wrong, but she wasn’t in her right head at the moment. I think she’s quite sorry now.” He picked up the mice by their tails, scanning the Commons just in time to see Ventus tuck herself into his den. “Don’t hold grudges.” Carefully, he crept towards the den, eager for a bit of lighthearted mischief after the atrocities they’d heard of today. His litter’s high-pitched laughter drifted out the opening, happily oblivious to the tension lingering in Lubrusca’s air. “Bless you Ventus,” he whispered to himself; a faint, amiable fondness lingering in his gaze as he paused to listen. Ventus had been a practical angel when it came to raising his puppies, always wielding a fantastic tale in her arsenal, a kind word during rough days, or a tiny playful tussle when they were feeling bold. Why, she’d even nursed the lot, taking care to ensure they remained well-fed even after Elenor’s passing. He and his pups owed her so, so much — the least he could do was try to strengthen her land. As Ventus dove into the tale where he’d battled a mountain lion, he slunk into a cat’s hunched crouch, allowing a gritty, low growl to build in his throat as he crept towards the den. As Maddox begged Ven to tell a tale of her own adventures, he dove forwards, lunging into the den mock-snarling. Ducking from the blow Ventus surely would’ve sent his way for frightening the pups, he backed out into the mouth, unable to conceal his laughter. “I’m sorry Ventus, I couldn’t resist.” He grinned as the mice dangled from his jaws. “Please accept these mice as compensation. Did I scare you all?” He teased, shoving his shoulders in just far enough to lick his pups’ faces. “Don’t underestimate her, your Aunt Ventus has ripped off more than her fair share of tails, haven’t you Ven?” He laughed, shifting his attentions strictly towards his Alphess. “As much as I’d like to join you, I’m thinking of taking the boys and Devika out to the borders. Maybe bring back a wolf or two if they seem right.” If Ventus granted him permission, he’d excuse himself from the den. As he walked, he noticed Ebony and Prim, accompanied by the stranger. His brow furrowed in suspicion. Surely they weren’t thinking of going, were they? “Ebony, Prim,” he barked, his face dropping in concern. “You two aren’t actually considering going, are you?” Ebony’s somber expression revealed no indicators otherwise. “Well,” he began, stepping back in stunned disbelief. “I know I can’t stop you, but please be cautious. Return to us safely. Personally,” he whispered, his voice dropping. “I don’t buy a word of what this wolf has to say, but you’ve always been smart. Just try and return to us safely. Don’t turn your back on him, especially you Prim. Wolves like him are not to be trusted.” He took a tense step back. “Best of luck to both of you on your journey.” With that, he turned around, all the more eager to find Ventus’s boys. It was high time he taught the lot how to properly the borders and handle possible rouges if worst came to worst. They were Lubrusca’s future after all. It would only be in all of their best interests to be educated on how to run it. Ventus would surely agree with him. “Hydran!” he barked, scanning the clearing for the fiery male. He spotted him and his brother in the midst of battle, locked in an intense snowball fight fit for the ages. Playfully, he bolted up to the two, picking up pace right before slamming his broad hindpaws back into the snow at hopefully just the right angle to send it soaring over the male. “Let’s hunt Lysic,” he quipped, his dappled haunches wriggling playfully. A cusp of copper fur behind a berm betrayed the brightly-hued adolescent. Slowly, he sunk into a crouch, skulking up to the berm with careful wariness. Then, with a warrior’s battle-charge, he bolted through it, hopefully sending the sorrel male soaring into the snow. “I’m glad you two are getting along well,” He laughed, allowing Lysic to rise to his paws. “But we’ve business now. I’m taking you and your brother down to the borders for patrol. If we see rouges, I’ll show you how to handle them. Assuming Devika is already there,” He quipped, gleaning over the river banks to no avail. “We’ll get to moving. Just follow me. I believe it’s well past time you two learned how to lead Lubrusca on your own.”

As hard-pressed as he expected volunteers to be, he found his first relatively swiftly. Kai the scout had stepped forth, dipping her dark-streaked head in a brief display of respect. He eyed her warily. Despite her best efforts to change, he knew she’d always seen Ventus as Lubrusca’s true leader. For good reason, no doubt, but it made him cautious. And yet, by some twist of fate, she’d approached him with her concerns first rather than seek out Ventus’s opinions. “Don’t risk any superiors, they’re vital for guarding the pack if the threat is truly as dangerous as this scout foretells. I’ve been in battle before,” She cautioned, the catastrophically hewn stump of her tail boldly twitching for emphasis. Mochi internally marveled at the sight of this oddity, this three legged miracle that’d survived the worst of wolves. Yes, Kai had a warrior’s spirit through and through, more than enough to compensate for the three legs and half tail, but her embarking on such a reckless adventure was incredibly concerning. She appeared quietly aware of this fact, stepping up wielding an invigorated, hushed intensity. “My death does not determine success or failure for this pack, nor does my presence. I am an acceptable wolf to risk. And you know it.”Mochi took a terse step back. Kai’s words held a terrible callous truth that he didn’t even want to fully acknowledge, and yet he understood her viewpoint fully. Kai had no family and her contributions to the pack were minimal at best, despite her giving her full effort. Departure would deal minimal damage, though he couldn’t bring himself to say so. “You may go if it suits you.” He dipped his head to reciprocate the respect she had shown him. “We will miss you. Best of luck on your journey.” With that, he swiftly hurried away, hoping she wouldn’t try to continue the exchange. He’d more pressing matters to attend to, like finding the hole their youngest had been stashed in as Ventus panicked. Fortunately, her fervor was quelled with the smallest, tiniest shift of Macha’s form, and into the den she vanished, obviously intent on nursing. For a moment, he enjoyed the exchange between Dante and her as he delivered snacks; a beautifully playful bit of banter that he very much wanted in on. Once Dante bid his mate and his pups farewell, Mochi seized the opportunity, stretching out just in front of the den’s mouth in time to hear Maddox’s story request. He chuckled, lightly resting his alabaster head just atop his paws. “If anyone has a story about battle, it’s your aunt. She once managed to beat me.” He laughed, fondly reminiscing. “ I’d been testing her nerves maybe a smidge too much, and she’d absolutely had it with me. As a matter of fact, she’d warned me, and said “Mochi, if you nip my tail one more time, I will send you swimming with the fishes.” But of course I didn’t listen.” He eyed her playfully, wriggling his brow. “I thought I had the river ice to protect me. Thick layer so deep even your father couldn’t fully crack it. And then the very second my teeth even grazed her tail; she grabbed me by my chest, sank her fangs in, and slammed me as hard as she could into the ice. It was so so cold,” he shuddered. “That by the time my fur had dried it had frozen solid, and she couldn’t stop laughing. Typical bully,” he teased, rolling onto his back. “Don’t ever go get her angry now. But if you wanted to learn, she could teach you everything a pup needs to know to conquer the world. Is that what all of you want to be? Lubrusca’s future leaders?"Tagged: Alphess Ventus @kai Apprentice Maddox Scout Milo Scout Cecilia Warrior Nascha @winchesterbrosinc1
