Dusk crouched down lower, using the tall rocks spread around as cover. This was where she liked to be best, the harsh sound of the wind, the grass tickling her underbelly, and the strong, ever-so-fresh smell of a mouse. It was a big one, fat in the belly, with thick, dove-grey fur and a long tail, whipping around as the mouse sat there, unaware of the danger that was ever so close. Dusk wasn't the best at hunting, to be honest. Her fur, black on the back, and white underbelly and feet, stood out in the greys and greens of the rocky prairie. She wasn't good at the whole silence thing either, Dusk was a stocky wolf, short, but muscular. This did nothing to help, and Dusk couldn't help feeling a tiny bit proud of herself as she began to crouch forward, slowly placing her paws in front, until she was only a tail-length away from the mouse. She was so close, Dusk could almost imagine the mouse in her mouth, juicy, delicious, and wonderfully fat. Dusk crouched down lower, ready to spring. And just as she was about to leap - the wind changed. It now swept Dusk's scent straight towards the mouse. It stood up and twitched it's tiny nose tentatively. Dusk could almost see it's eyes widen in recognition, and she humped clumsily, not wanting it to get away. But it was too late. The mouse ran, surprisingly fast, and the last Dawn saw of it was that long, whippy tail disappearing behind a rock. Cursing underneath her breath, Dusk looked up, surveying her surroundings, and also yelped in surprise. She guessed she'd been too surprised to see the wolves there, talking together. Dusk struggled with what to do. Should she leave them, and avoid an argument, or talk to them, and maybe make some acquaintances? She took a deep breath, and padded towards them, making sure to be loud so that they would hear her approaching. No one likes to be stalked up on. "Hi - I'm Dusk. Am you guys from around here?"

Raven trudged along the cliffs, fresh on her own. Not by choice, but she could make due. She had to. She had been wandering around aimlessly for days now. Having to leave behind the territory she grew up in resulted in a less than satisfactory situation for the young wolf. She didn't recognize any of the scents or surroundings, and they only got more unfamiliar the farther she strayed. She also didn't have much experience being on her own in general. Despite being somewhat of a distant loner within the pack, she had still always been part of it. Still, she was determined to get by one way or another. She had yet to see another wolf since she was cast out of her pack. She had only ever hunted in group hunts, so having to do so on her own proved to be a new and difficult challenge. She hadn't caught a single thing for the first few days, but then she got lucky. A wounded rabbit lay bleeding in the snow. It was still warm — a recent kill. Raven made sure there was no one nearby before she took the rabbit in her jaws and scampered off, eager to get to cover so that she could feast on her find before the original predator came back to claim it. That was almost a full day ago, and she was beginning to feel the effects of hunger set in once again. Eager to satisfy the burning eating away at her stomach while she still had all her strength, Raven began searching for prey, alive or otherwise. After a few unsuccessful attempts at mice, birds, and jackrabbits, she began to get frustrated. It was only then that she saw a wolf in the distance. There was no doubt about it — he was munching on a kill; she could smell it from here. As she approached him, she noticed another wolf. And another. And another. Uh-oh, had she stumbled upon a pack? Knowing she would have to change her approach, Raven slowed her pace and approached the wolves with caution, but not fear. She studied each wolf carefully as she neared, trying to best assess the situation, both out of curiosity and vigilance. She noted that two were male and two female. Perhaps they were mates? No, they all seemed to be rather hesitant around each other and the wolf with the kill was the only one eating it. Maybe they weren't part of a pack at all. She tried to keep her eyes off of the kill, however, which she was now close enough to determine that it was the remains of some sort of rabbit. She didn't want to give away her true intentions — to steal the kill — so she diverted her gaze back to the wolves before her. Stealing the rabbit would prove to be much harder to accomplish now, with so many other wolves nearby. Changing her strategy, she tried to slide into the conversation currently occurring. "What are all of you doing here?" Raven asked, her voice smooth and unwavering. She seemed confident and collected. She slowly moved her head to look between each of the wolves standing idly by. This may not have been the best way to approach a group of wolves who may or may not be close with one another, but she was willing to bet that they weren't and were all there for different reasons. Granted, the way she phrased the question made her seem somewhat defensive, but she didn't sound angry. If this all worked out in her favor, she could walk away with a meal to satisfy her stomach, but she had to be clever about it.

CloudSpiral's mind churned with thoughts, and he hadn't even noticed the she-wolf that had spoken to him. He finished his jackrabbit, then turned to see, with surprise, that there were two wolves behind him, making minimal conversation. His golden eyes glowed in the sunlight, standing out against his shadowy fur. "I apologize," he dipped his head. "I have traveled far and long and have not rested or hunted for a while. I was lost in thought, I am afraid I did not hear you." His inky black tail swept across the ground as he gazed at the she-wolf. "I am CloudSpiral, son of a deceased Alpha and a deceased female rogue. I have been searching for my sister, StormFrost, but it appears our paths have officially divided."
Unfortunately, he had not caught either of the other wolves' names. "I do not mean to be rude, my friends. Would you kindly tell me again what your names are?"

Despite trying to divert her gaze, Raven found herself glancing over at the wolf as he devoured his kill, her mouth watering. She felt a prick of anger in her gut, the wolf's greedy behavior causing a cold envy to bubble up within her, but she suppressed it as best as she could. Instead she opted for a pleasant albeit forced air, with which she used to focus on listening to what the wolf had to say: "I have traveled far and long and have not rested or hunted for a while.…I am CloudSpiral, son of a deceased Alpha and a deceased female rogue. I have been searching for my sister, StormFrost, but it appears our paths have officially divided." 'Well, you poor thing' she thought sarcastically. She doubted what he had been through was anything compared to what she had been forced to endure, but he didn't see her complaining. Still, she put on the mask of sympathy and slowly padded a few steps closer to the black wolf, her head held high. "That's terrible!" she exclaimed as she approached, her voice dripping with artificial concern. "My name is Raven; I have also gotten separated from my pack. I have come to terms with the fact that I will likely never see them again." She didn't bother to elaborate. No way was she going to share any too-personal information with relative strangers, and leaving them to assume would likely cause them to think better of her than revealing the truth would. Still, a bit of honesty couldn't hurt now — in fact, it may even aid her if she used it in the right way. "It's been a while since I've eaten, too. Truthfully, the scent of your kill was what drew me in, 'CloudSpiral'," she continued, trying out the name on her tongue. "You must be pretty skilled if you can catch a jackrabbit on your own in this terrain," she observed, "Maybe you could teach me a thing or two." Raven knew she was jumping to conclusions herself — she was aware that he may not have caught the jackrabbit alone; that he may not have caught it at all, but rather scavenged or stolen it like she had the day prior. However, inferring the best of these options aloud (even if she didn’t necessarily believe them) allowed her to give him praise, something everyone enjoyed, regardless of their feat. She had learned from experience that by getting on someone's good side with your first impression, it would make them more willing to trust you and help you out. Not to mention, how he reacted to it would allow her to decipher his character further. As for the others, they hadn’t exactly said much, but she would focus on one thing at a time. CloudSpiral was the main reason she was here, after all. It was only fair that she gave him the most attention. Plus she could gain the most from him, as far as she could tell. That being said, she did recognize that she had something to gain from all of them. Collectively. Particularly in the category of hunting. Again, she was accustomed to hunting with other wolves, so as long as these wolves actually knew how to hunt sufficiently as a team, they would be of use to her until she learned how to effectively do so on her own. But until then, it would probably be a good idea to keep them around if possible. Who knows, if everything went well, this could even be the start of a new pack, preferably with her on top.

A young wolf, trying to enjoy all the good in life

Sage would twist her head to see two new wolves that had appeared behind her. The first wolf she noticed was a female with piercing yellow eyes that stood out on her black fur. The second wolf was also a female with a few black and white patches on her coat, with dark, honey-like amber eyes. She heard the some of the wolves speak to each other, she wasn't really listening as she was busy in thoughts. Neither of them had seemed like a threat to the young she-wolf so she approached them and gave each one of them a warm smile after ising her head in pride and confidently announcing: "Hello, I'm Sage." "Hi - I'm Dusk. Are you guys from around here?" Said the wolf with black and white fur. Sage would look at the Dusk and smiled, trying not to show anyone her awkwardness, meeting all these wolves in such a short time. Stuttering, she would say " Hello Dusk! I'm not from around here, just a wanderer, I guess you could say."
Sage had noticed the male wolf she met first looked at her and said "I apologize, I have travelled far and long and have not rested or hunted for a while. I was lost in thought, I am afraid I did not hear you. I am CloudSpiral, son of a deceased Alpha and a deceased female rogue. I have been searching for my sister, StormFrost, but it appears our paths have officially divided." Sage looked down, she knew what it was like to get separated from a family. She tried not to feel sad, thinking about her family. She got used to the feeling of them not being there, although she did miss having play fights with her brothers. Sage shook her head, trying to focus her attention on the wolves, rather than her issues.
Suddenly, out of the blue, Sage heard the other female wolf say something, "My name is Raven; I have also gotten separated from my pack. I have come to terms with the fact that I will likely never see them again."
'What's with these wolves and losing their packs? I know it's common but still.. I'm being such a hypocrite right now. They might have had a worse past than me.' Sage thought to herself. "Nice to meet you, Raven!" She tried to sound sincere. Suddenly her ears perked up, the sound of water flowing filled her head. She hadn't realised that she hadn't had a single drop of water in ages! This might be her chance to quench her thirst.
"Excuse me, I uh.." Sage paused nervously laughed, " I haven't drunk in a while and I can hear water, so I might quickly go there... I'll be back soon." I hope, she thought. Maybe the others would want to drink, she looked at all four of them and nervously said, "Any of you want to come with me?"

CloudSpiral, instinctive to the core, noticed a prickle of anger from the dark female. "That's terrible!" The she-wolf exclaimed, her voice coated with concern. CloudSpiral wasn't buying it. "My name is Raven; I have also gotten separated from my pack. I have come to terms with the fact that I will likely never see them again. It's been a while since I've eaten, too. Truthfully, the scent of your kill was what drew me in, 'CloudSpiral'," the she-wolf continued. "You must be pretty skilled if you can catch a jackrabbit on your own in this terrain. Maybe you could teach me a thing or two."
CloudSpiral became slightly wary of the female, but he knew that many rogues did what they had to do to survive. "There is no need to pretend, Raven." His father's wisdom filled his mind. "I would never neglect a wolf in need." He noticed the hunger in the beautiful female's eyes. Whoa, beautiful? Calm down, she's a stranger... but she's definitely stunning... CloudSpiral shook his head, hoping to not have looked too moony. "Please, allow me to hunt for you, I will show you what I know."
He flicked his ears, listening for the sound of prey. "Stay quiet, and keep your tail off the ground." He parted his jaws, tasting the air. Jackrabbit! He padded away quietly, his tail lifted above the ground as he lowered his body and stalked the prey. He suddenly burst forward with incredible speed, slamming a paw into the rodent's side before it could react, then pounced on it and snapped its neck. He picked it up in his jaws, carrying it back to Raven. He set it down before her, then nosed it closer to her. He realized that he was larger than the inky-black female, but their strength was likely nearly equal. She would make a wonderful co-Alpha... "It's yours. Go ahead, Raven, eat."

"Nice to meet you, Raven!" one of the other wolves greeted. Though Raven did hear her, she didn't pay the she-wolf much mind; only giving her a subtle nod in recognition. Her main focus remained on CloudSpiral, impatiently awaiting his decision. "There is no need to pretend, Raven," he finally replied, throwing Raven slightly off guard. She hadn't been expecting that type of response. How cryptic. Wait, 'pretend'? She wanted to retort but bit her tongue. The issue with cryptic messages was also the reason she personally loved them; they were vague, leaving people to guess their meanings, and, more often than not, had more than one meaning. (Not to mention speaking in riddles gave off a wise and mysterious aura.) Knowing this might be the case, Raven tried not to assume and instead put on a confused expression with a tilt of her head, looking at the other as if she didn't have a clue what he meant. Nonetheless, She continued to listen intently as he spoke; "I would never neglect a wolf in need." Well, aren't you a saint. There was a pause, and for a moment she thought she had said the sarcastic comment aloud. She opened her mouth, about to say something that would hopefully compensate for it, but he spoke again before she could. "Please, allow me to hunt for you, I will show you what I know," he offered. It was only in my head, she thought with relief. She would have had a hard time digging herself out of that one. "That's very kind of you," she replied pleasantly once she had recovered, which didn't take long. "Stay quiet, and keep your tail off the ground," he instructed. Though she didn't like being bossed around, Raven decided to comply only because something otherwise unattainable was involved. She hated it, but since she couldn’t exactly fend for herself very well, she was forced to rely on others until she could. Staying a little ways away from the male, Raven padded quietly after CloudSpiral. She observed his technique as he hunted, studying his every move and motion. She took note of his impressive burst of speed and his quick, powerful jaws; his careful steps and sharp hearing. She could tell he was an experienced hunter, if only in this territory. No cover had been her main issue in hunting, besides not knowing how to do so on her own. Here she would have to be fast if she wanted to catch anything before it saw her and got away. It was significantly different from her preferred hunting style, which involved more sneaking and pouncing than chasing — or at least chasing with the intent to catch rather than simply herding in a general direction. Still, she knew she would have to adapt if she wanted to survive in this terrain. Then again, she could always go back to more familiar terrain, but she didn't know the layout of this land too well and didn't want to get lost. She would have to try to convince the others to come with her if she decided to go that route. Ironic, how independent she was and yet how reliant she had to be. She had never thought to learn to hunt on her own because she never thought she would have to. And now look at her; about to accept food from a stranger. Oh, how far she had fallen. “Impressive,” she admitted as CloudSpiral came trotting back. When he set the kill by her feet, she took notice of the tender look of admiration he gave her. At first, she didn't know what to make of it. She couldn't recall anyone looking at her in quite that way before, but there was a strange twinkle in his eye she that reminded her of how her parents used to look at each other. Oh, she suddenly realized, Does he like me? In that way? "It's yours. Go ahead, Raven, eat." She blinked, everything seeming to click into place. He hadn’t helped her because he was as selfless as he claimed but to try to impress her. She wasn't disappointed though. By now she had realized that everybody had some sort of ulterior motive. Fighting back a smirk, she responded smoothly, “Thank you, CloudSpiral," she stepped forward licked his cheek, "I am very grateful." She could play to that side of him. And she would if it continued to offer perks like this. At least until she could obtain them on her own. But until then, having someone like CloudSpiral around couldn’t hurt. Pulling the hare closer to her with her paw, Raven lied down and proceeded to devour the kill. The meat was juicy and tender, surprisingly chewy, and tasted similar to chicken. Its insides were still warm, despite the cold air surrounding it. The mere scent of it made her stomach growl in pleasure. Licking her bloodied jowls, she was down to scraps in record time. Finally able to sate her hunger, at least for the day, she let out a contented sigh. "Excuse me,” the same wolf as before spoke up, “I uh… I haven't drunk in a while and I can hear water, so I might quickly go there… I'll be back soon." She started off but turned back towards them after going only a couple of steps. "Any of you want to come with me?" she invited hesitantly. Rising to her feet, Raven called out, "I'll come." A cool, refreshing drink was just what she needed after her meal. So she started after the she-wolf who's name she could not recall. Saffron? Sarsaparilla? Sassafras? Some type of herb beginning in S. Though she seemed rather harmless and was significantly smaller than Raven, she didn’t want to give the other the opportunity to attack. She couldn’t say for sure if she would or not, but she would rather face a challenge head-on than be stabbed in the back. And she meant that literally. She hadn't known these wolves nearly long enough to consider such an act a betrayal. Looking over her shoulder at the other three, particularly CloudSpiral, Raven asked, “You coming?” Without waiting for a response, she ambled on, almost certain at least he would choose to join. If she was right about the way he felt about her, or if he wanted to uphold his selfless reputation, she doubted he would try to attack her. That being said, she still stole glances back at him every so often, just to be safe.

As Sage was about to leave to get a drink, she heard the she-wolf Raven reply to her with a kind-sounding, "I'll come." Sage let out a small, awkward smile to the new wolf as she slowly began to make her way down the hill. She stopped when she had heard Raven ask someone, "You Coming?" Sage breathed out, impatiently digging her claws into the ground. Feeling the cold soil under her paws had sent shivers down her spine. She slowly started making her way further downhill, not waiting for a response from whomever the question was asked too. She started fastening her pace, her walk turning into a trot. She could feel the fresh breeze on her fur, she was focused on one thing - reaching the river and taking a big gulp of cold, fresh water. The ambition was taking over her, nothing could stop her now... Right? She was halfway there, she could feel it.
Sage had now slowed her pace, wondering: 'Do I trust those wolves? They don't seem like a threat, they seem quite nice actually. I should stay alert, just in case they try to attack while I'm not paying attention.' With that thought, the young wolf approached the edge of the small river. She licked her lips and smiled. Taking a small step forwards and leaning her head towards the water she took a large gulp of water, taking a deep breath before swallowing.
After a few more mouthfuls, she noticed a little fish in the water. Quickly she bared her fangs and went for the kill letting out a tiny growl in the process. To her misfortune, the fish was too fast and it escaped her jaws just in time to not become her next meal. "Next time." She muttered to her self after sitting down, closing her eyes and enjoying the peace. Her ears perking up every now and then to listen out for any animals that could be approaching.

CloudSpiral felt heat flood his fur when Raven licked his cheek, getting the feeling that she was toying with him (not that he minded). He dipped his head, then sat calmly as the she-wolf devoured the jackrabbit. She must have really been hungry... He heard Sage ask if they wanted to go get some water, and Raven had gotten up. He nodded when she asked if he was coming, stretching a bit before strolling behind her. He noticed the way Raven kept looking back at him, and instantly recognized the action. Does she really think I'm going to attack her? He picked up his pace and fell into step beside her. " I apologize if I am making you uncomfortable in any way. I mean you no harm." He walked beside her, muscles rippling beneath his broad shoulders. Perhaps we will start a pack one day...@raven Sage @dusk @inigo OOC: I can't quite remember, but CloudSpiral is about 2.6 feet at the shoulder and 6.3 feet in length, weighing in at about 175 pounds. Raven looked over her shoulder again once she heard CloudSpiral’s footsteps fall out of sync and speed up to a jog, her body involuntarily tensing up. But as he slowed to a walk by her side, she felt her muscles return to their relaxed state, now aware that he wasn’t trying to ambush her. Looking over at CloudSpiral, Raven studied the male's frame briefly. He had a dark coat like hers, though his was speckled with silver strands throughout. The gray fur made him look a bit older, but his build claimed to be that of a young, fit, and healthy wolf — muscular and bold, she could see the muscles in his broad shoulders move as he walked. She noticed that, while he had a significantly longer body than she did, she was notably taller than him. "I apologize if I am making you uncomfortable in any way. I mean you no harm," he spoke as they walked. “Oh, no, it’s not that,” she bluffed, “Just old habit, I guess. I’m used to having to watch my back constantly.” Another lie. Her life up until now couldn’t have been easier or more risk-free. Even so, she turned her gaze to the ground, her ears and tail drooping as if a painful memory had just been revived. However, she perked up abruptly and looked towards Stevia when she heard the she-wolf pick up her pace. She watched her run off but made no move to chase after her, knowing they were all heading to the same place. The other soon slowed her gait, a river coming into view. Whether she stopped because she got tired or because she saw the water, Raven couldn’t say, but she suspected Savory was trying to create more distance between herself and Raven and CloudSpiral either way. Not that she minded. Raven fully understood not being able to trust mere strangers — she didn’t trust the she-wolf either — but she found it odd that she would choose to invite them along if she felt uncomfortable around them. Raven continued on her route at a steady pace, watching Sorrel from a distance as she reached the river and took a drink from its icy current. Her eyes twinkled with amusement as she watched the she-wolf try and fail to catch what she assumed a fish from the river as well. She let out a light chuckle and called out, “Having trouble over there?”

“ Oh, no, it’s not that,” Raven replied, not seeming to believe her own words, “ Just old habit, I guess. I’m used to having to watch my back constantly.” CloudSpiral raised a non-visible eyebrow, indicating that he didn't quite believe her words. When he looked into her eyes, he saw pain, then noticed that the dark she-wolf's ears and tail had drooped. When Sage failed to catch what appeared to be a fish, Raven called out to her. " Having trouble over there?" CloudSpiral dipped his head down, taking a long, refreshing drink of the cool water. He turned to Sage and cocked his head. " Perhaps your shadow was over the water? That tends to scare the fish away." He didn't like telling others how to hunt, but Sage seemed rather hungry, as though she had not had a decent meal recently. CloudSpiral clambered over the rocks, letting the cool water splash over his paws. A fat fish swam in lazy circles, then noticed the wolf near it and tried to escape. It was too late for the fish. CloudSpiral grabbed the wriggly creature in a flash, snapping his jaws shut around its body. He flung the fish onto dry land, glad to see that the fishing skills his father had taught him were still with him. " I've already eaten recently, so it's yours if you want it, Sage." He turned to look at Raven. " Hey... are you sure you're alright? You seem upset."

Sage's ears perked up to the sound of loud talking. She opened her eyes and turned around. "Having trouble over there?" Asked the new wolf, Raven. She seemed to be motioning at the water. She's talking about the fish, Sage guessed, letting out a sigh. "Ugh-" The she-wolf started but got cut off by Cloudspiral. "Perhaps your shadow was over the water? That tends to scare the fish away." It looked as if he was making fun of her hunting skills, but he sounded genuinely concerned, you could say. Sage watched as CloudSpiral clambered over the rocks, his gaze was fixed on a fat fish. I moved away, letting the professional do his job. In a flash, Cloudspiral lunged forwards and caught the fish, walking up to me and setting the fish next to my paws. "I've already eaten recently, so it's yours if you want it, Sage." Sage gave Cloudspiral and warm smile before saying a gentle "Thank you."
She leaned forwards and carefully grabbed the fish. She could hear the male wolf ask Raven if she's alright, and that she seemed rather upset. Sage decided that taking a few steps away from Raven and Cloudpiral would be best, to give them space to talk. She sat down in a small pile of leaves and grass, setting the fish down. She breathed in the smell of the fresh kill, she hasn't had fish in forever.
Licking her lips she took a large chunk out of the small creature. Some blood trickled down her lips and onto her neck as she bit deeper into the flesh before swallowing it. After about a minute, she finally finished her meal, giving a thankful glance towards Cloudspiral and a smile towards Raven. She found herself thinking, 'The two now know that I am horrible at hunting, could they use this to their advantage?'
Suddenly a huge gust of wind came her way, blowing everything around. The pile of leaves she was resting on flew straight into her face, some leaves getting stuck in her fur. The shock on her face soon faded as she let out a chuckle and began to take the leaves out of her brown, silky fur.

CloudSpiral chuckled at the sight of leaves littering Sage's fur, then gave a yelp of surprise as he himself was covered in leaves. He watched Sage's movements carefully, then noticed that if she were better fed, her energy levels would likely give her decent speed. CloudSpiral shook out his pelt and looked at Sage. Do not worry, my friend. A great hunter sleeps within you, waiting to be woken for the hunt. You have so much potential. He stretched again, the somewhat noticeable silver markings in his fur shimmering in the sunlight. He remembered when he had first departed from his pack, unable to catch much prey. Hopefully they would be successful more often than he had been then. Sage @raven @inigo @dusk

Raven looked up as she heard CloudSpiral tell the other female wolf with them, "Perhaps your shadow was over the water? That tends to scare the fish away." Dipping her head to lap up more water, she made a mental note to remember this advice. She had never actually fished before; her pack’s main water source had been a small, stagnant lake that only ever had minnows in the shallows, and those never tasted very good. She was curious as to what real fish tasted like. As she drank from the stream, a fish swam directly in front of her nose. She lifted her head up and followed it with her eyes but made no move to actually catch it. It was a lot larger than a minnow, and the sight of it made her mouth water, but she didn’t want to make a fool of herself since she knew she would probably fail the first time she tried to catch anything in the water. From what she had heard, fish were very slippery creatures. Eventually, the fish swam further downstream and Raven, still watching it swim along, noticed CloudSpiral climbing on some of the rocks. She watched the dark wolf with a curious gaze, unsure of what he was trying to do. It was far too cold for a swim. Then it happened. Quick as lightning his muzzle shot into the river's icy depths, emerging a few seconds later with a fat fish in his jaws. Raven found herself once again in awe at how quickly he struck. He tossed the large fish back onto the riverbank and Raven continued to watch him hop from rock to rock and back to shore, agile as a fox. Once he was back on solid ground, she noticed he was barely wet — only his muzzle and paws were drenched. "I've already eaten recently, so it's yours if you want it, Sage," CloudSpiral offered, which Sage accepted gladly. Raven perked up at the name. Sage. Yes, that sounded right. She was right about it being an herb. Even so, Raven to let out a light sigh in irritation as Sage scampered off with the fish after a solemn thanks to CloudSpiral. Sure, she had just eaten, but that small hare alone wasn’t enough to fill her stomach; it was only just enough to satisfy her hunger temporarily. And for a wolf who was used to being well-fed, she found herself growing jealous. "Hey… are you sure you're alright? You seem upset."
Raven glanced over to see CloudSpiral looking over at her, a concerned glint in his eye. “Yeah,” she responded nonchalantly and turned her attention back to the water below her, looking at her reflection. She saw a strong, brave warrior with a piercing golden gaze, shroud in shadow. Even if she was seeing herself through rose-colored glasses, it still made her feel a bit better. She could make it through this. Things were looking up. Weren’t they? The scent of fish wafted from behind her where Sage lay munching on her meal. This scent was only made stronger as a strong burst of wind came blowing through. Raven winched as the breeze seemed to cut straight through her fur and to her very core, causing a shiver to run down her spine. She braced herself against the cold but was quickly distracted by the other smells carried on the wind. Most prominently she caught a whiff of a familiar scent she had never smelled before. It was like the lake she remembered from home, and yet it had a brash unfamiliarity to it that she couldn’t quite place. It smelled salty and rich and with a subtle underlying earthy layer. Now extremely curious, Raven sniffed the air some more, ignoring the leaves caught in her pelt. What was this smell? Walking along the riverbank, she followed the scent a few feet downstream, not even noticing or caring if she was leaving the others behind or not. It seemed to get stronger with each step she took. Could the river lead to some sort of lake? No, this didn’t smell marshy enough to be a lake. She furrowed her brow, racking her brain for what it could be, but no ideas came to mind. Rounding over the top of a hill, she caught a large whiff of the scent so strongly that she had to take a step back. Then, looking up, she felt a gasp of pure wonder leave her mouth. What she saw ahead of her was a neverending expanse of water. It stretched to the horizon and as far as the eye could see on either side of her. No matter how she looked at it, there was just water, water, and more water. It gently rolled up onto the beach below before retreated just as smoothly, giving a rhythm to its beauty. She had never seen such a large collection of water in one place! She couldn’t do anything but stand there in awe. Where did it all come from? Why hadn’t she seen, smelt, or heard it sooner? How could she have missed something like this? Thoughts raced through her head, unable to fully comprehend the grandeur moment. “This is the largest lake I’ve ever seen,” she mumbled, her voice soft and breathy.

CloudSpiral watched Raven pad up a hill and his ears pricked up when she gasped. "T his is the largest lake I've ever seen." CloudSpiral scampered up beside her excitedly. " It's not a lake, it's the ocean!" He exclaimed happily. " I've seen the ocean before, but I was only a pup. It's beautiful..." CloudSpiral inhaled the scent of salty water, a happy sigh escaping his jaws. " You're pretty, too." Oh, c'mon. You did NOT just say that to her! Heat rose in his pelt, and he turned away. " Er... sorry about that..." He shifted uncomfortably, ready for Raven to shoot him down. " Maybe I should go...?" @raven Sage @dusk @inigo
