Achak blinked softly, flattening his ears to match the small wolves posture, he took a moment, re-evaluating his previous thinking. He doesn't seem like he could hurt a fly.. he stared at the small wolf, choosing his words carefully. "I'm Achak, who might you be?" He asks, his voice smooth but seemed to carry weight of a bigger question. He sat slowly trying to calm the smaller wolf down, his tail sat to his side twitching slightly.
He stared down at him, studying the wolf. "How did you end up in a place like this?" He asked now, more curious about how the wolf he believed couldn't hurt a fly had survived not only by himself but in a place like this. He felt it was rude to ask however, so he kept his mouth shut on anything further. He sighed lowly the cool windy breeze blowing through his coat softly, his stomach growled softly indicating once again that he had yet to find something big enough to satisfy his hunger he glanced at the smaller wolf, wondering if he had the same problem.

“I’m Achak,” the tan wolf replied, in answer to Shale’s blurted question. “Who might you be?” He sat down, looking Shale over, and followed his first question up with another. “How did you end up in a place like this?”
Shale caught the hint of curiosity in his tone. Of course. That was to be expected; Shale didn’t exactly match up to the typical expectation of a fiercely independent, hostile rogue wolf.
But all the same, he allowed himself to relax, sitting down and raising his head a little. “I’m Shale,” he said. “I’m not even sure where here is, to be honest; I’ve been traveling for awhile, since my old pack disbanded. They all went off in different directions, but nobody seemed to want me with them, so I struck out on my own.”
He stopped. The other wolf’s stomach growled slightly, and Shale felt a spark of hope. He dipped his head again, this time with a tentative smile.
“Are you hungry?” he asked. “I haven’t been able to catch much by myself- I’m not too good when it comes to hunting- but maybe we’d do better with two of us. That is, if you wanted.”

It was lovely to see how closely all of them had grown since they’d ventured down from the Calming Coastlines. Each promptly entered the cave’s tight confines with little complaint and bid their good nights and sweet dreams, curled up contently within the warmth of eight wolves or so. After the last of them had settled, he entered himself, taking care not to step on any of the many tails sprawling about (although he might have stumbled over quite a few, much to their owner’s dismay). There, right behind Knox, besides Astoria, he settled down for a good night’s sleep. How incredible that in the matter of a few brief weeks, he’d now not only one friend, but eight to share a cave with! While it was, as he’d cautioned, slightly cramped, it was cozy, secure and snug to shield them from the wintry cold. As he drifted to sleep to the sounds of soft breathing and gentle snoring, he thought of how very fortunate he was, finding these fantastic wolves with their wonderful stories, backgrounds and habits. He only hoped they’d stay close, and with that, giddy, eager grey eyes shut, ready to conclude one adventure and begin another.
Time Skip: One Month Later
Astro’s wish had come true. For the most part, aside from departure, they’d all remained close and had grown closer, pleasantly comfortable and well accustomed to each other’s odd tics and practices. While they weren’t quite a pack, with each wolf doing exactly as they pleased with their day, they’d enjoyed the benefits of living in close proximity, exchanging company as freely as they wished. He’d remained closest with his first real friend and fellow wolf-dog: Knox; although Knox appeared to have grown fond of Chet, entertaining her terrifically fanciful tales with an eager, attentive ear. It was an innocent affection, one he’d enjoyed watching, akin to the one Noone and Aenemys shared. He’d seen the pair from afar with their lovely, wistful looks and whimsy, playful way of speaking to one another — how wonderfully charming! Eagerly, he envisioned the day when he too would have a romance of his own, passion, adventure! He didn’t know much, but from watching their exchanges, he only imagined how marvelous it must be.
“Astro! Wake up!” Astoria’s sweet voice sang as she bounded forwards, pressing her puce muzzle against his cheek. He smiled, half-awake, haplessly leaning towards her touch. “I found this really cool thing that I want to show you!” Grey eyes gleamed, instantly widening in glee as he scrambled to his paws. An adventure was a marvelous thing, but an adventure was Astoria — now that was something he had simply dreamed of. Whatever Astoria had in store, he knew it would be wonderfully fun so long as she was there with him. Just seeing her was enchanting on its own. Those beautifully large brown eyes were glimmering with irrepressible delight, framing a delightfully adorable face, even for hybrid standards. Speaking of such, the tiny hybrid’s tail was whipping at a previously unprecedented pace. “Lead the way!” He quipped happily, bounding after her as she scampered off into the distance to unveil her secret: a small, tucked-away cave, much like the one Knox had once found him in. Excitedly, Astoria entered the mouth, insisting he follow her in that whimsically bubbly way of hers. He obliged naturally. “Hey Astoria,” Astro yipped, allowing his auburn curl reign to whip as it pleased. “How’s a game of hide and seek sound? Just you, me, caverns, tunnels, adventure, fun,” He rambled, playfully nipping her nose. “Let’s explore the whole thing.”

"Why am I constantly on a state of confusion?"

Post by Nooné on Mar 3, 2019 0:14:33 GMT -8
Nooné awaited for Aenemys's face to change, for it to transform into the kind one has when thinking "Can't this weirdo talk well?", but that never happened. Instead, the white female looked up at the sky and prepared her own answer, giving the male a refreshing feeling of confidence to talk without worrying much. "It's a bit hectic for me, but I think I could use the social life. It's at times crazy all the wolves running around in an unorganized system with no sort of hierarchy, but it's also also refreshing from previous experiences" she said, not stopping her heaven gazing. The male looked at the sky too, just to see what she was looking at. "And, what you said about being safer kind of, that's a good feeling too. It's nice to know I probably won't get lonely around here," the female finished, looking back at the unsuspecting male who had just given up on the sky search, barely realizing her attention had fallen back on him. Processing her words and feeling identified, the iberian chuckled softly, expressing a quick "Same". A scent traveled by the cold wind right into their nostrils, sending a warm feeling throughout the male's body, as endorphines generated on his brain. Nostalgia had been triggered, and memories flooded his mind. Breathing deeply, enjoying the so familiar smell as much as he could, the male quickly differentiated from the rest. "Rabbit...At least I think so...", said Nooné, looking at his companion smiling. "Can't pick up exactly how many of them are, but they can't be that far away", the male yipped, continuing their walk, barely picking up the pace. "Used to live near a place where it was full of them, I'd go with my brothers and sister and see who catched more every few weeks", he stated, cherishing the good memory. "We'd be out the whole afternoon trying to catch the damn things! I wasn't even good at it", the male said as he chuckled out of raw nostalgia, "Only got to win one of our matches, now that I remember". Aenemys

Achak smiled seeing Shale relax, he was glad he had seem to say the right thing this time around, however he tilted his head upon hearing Shale's question. I've only just met him, he doesn't have to be nice. He sighed softly and shook his head. "There's nothing very big around here to eat, small birds and such." He seemed to smile for a moment. "I wasn't really a hunter in my old pack, not my speed." He thought for another moment about his offer. "We could try, I suppose two heads are better than one after all." He nodded slowly content with his answer. "Most stuff hides around the rocks." He motioned for Shale to follow, beginning to walk.

Shale bounded after Achak, barely able to conceal his elation at having found someone friendly and likable. He had been afraid to approach any other wolves, remembering all too well the tales of vicious, bloodthirsty rogues that his former alpha had told. But he had also hated the idea of wandering the valley alone until he found some new pack to join. Having someone else alongside him helped to ease some of his fear.
And hopefully some of his hunger as well. His hunting efforts over the past few days had been limited mostly to small reptiles and the occasional bird, and they were, for the most part, a dismal failure. He’d tried not to pay attention to the insistent ache in his stomach, but it was now past the point of ignoring, and he hoped that the two of them working together might do better than they had alone.
His ears pricked up at the sound of a slight rustle, and he turned his head, dropping low to the ground as he fixed his gaze on a scraggly bush. Something was definitely hiding inside it; a bird maybe, or a squirrel, or a rabbit if they were especially lucky. “Achak,” he whispered, nodding to the bush in the hope that the other wolf understood his unspoken message. He crouched, waiting for the perfect moment to leap forward...
OOC: I’ll let you decide what kind of prey these two have surprised, @achak!

Achak smiled at Shale's enthusiasm, enjoying the company after so many years alone. His ears twitched hearing his name, he hadn't noticed the rustle in the bushes. He nodded back slowly, crouching along side him, he sniffed softly trying to pinpoint the small creatures location. His ears seem to hone in a certain spot, after a moment he pounced, putting his front paws on the small rabbit. The rabbit squirmed struggle to get away from Achak, after a moment it gained more wiggle room breaking free from his grip. "Shale!" He shouted running after it the best he could, he wasn't very fast so he was hopeful Shale could catch up to it better than he. He was barely able to keep pace with it trying to know it off balance carefully, scaring it toward Shale the best he could.

Shale jumped, startled by Achak's shout, but he quickly realized the situation. He whirled, darting after the rabbit. His smaller size made him faster and more agile than most wolves, and he caught up to the creature quickly. He leaped forward, trapping the rabbit beneath his paws. Instinct took over, and he bit down quickly, feeling the rabbit go still. He sat back, gasping for breath, barely able to believe what had just happened. I did it! I actually did it!
He looked back at Achak, not even trying to hide the excitement in his voice as he called out, "Well, it's not much, but it's something at least!"

ROGUE KNOX
Knox watched in curiosity of this bipolar wolf gave them. Both leaving and coming back, asking to join after such an introduction. Knox scoffed but would ultimately let Chet and Tenzin decide, as they were the first ones to interact with her. Still, he would voice his opinions to his friends.
"I don't see why not, so long as she doesn't cause any problems," he spoke before looking to Chet. "You wanna take a walk?" he would ask her with a smile. He trusted Tenzin would shout if he was truly in trouble but the male had impressed Knox. He had remained calm and kind towards the she-wolf even if she was being anything but. He could deal with her fine as she seemed to have more of an interest in the blind wolf than an interest in harming him.
If Chet agreed to follow he would step away, spotting a new wolf not too far away seeming to peer into their cave, Knox let out a breath of air. Other's could deal with the stranger, as he was at the den with the most wolves.
Turning to his friend he gave out a wolf-ish grin before nipping her in the ear. "You're it!" he said before bolting away and up the rocky side of their home. His laughter floating on the wind as he quickly ascended the steep hill.

He wondered why this giant she-wolf was so aggressive. He understood her being on guard with a few of his friends coming into the conversation and partially surrounding her, but then she had chosen to show her teeth first, metaphorically. She introduced herself as Xechasmenos. Definitely a strange and unusual name, a language he didn't recognize. For a moment he felt her presence soften, and she asked his name once more. Then, like a switch, she scoffed and decided she wanted to come back later. Even though he could tell that she was much larger than them and was thirsty, probably hungry, she wanted to get out of the situation she had created. Tenzin was a little disappointed he couldn't talk to her more. He appreciated the protection of the others in the valley group, but it seemed one too many had interjected and she lost her nerve. At least she wasn't trying to eat him.
Quickly she turned and ambled away from them, a smug air about her. Moments later, he would hear her return to him, that same air replaced once more with a sheepish, docile tone. She addressed him once more, asking about the group's status and explaining she had issues with her anger. The young male smiled softly and gave a slight nod of acknowledgement.
"My name is Tenzin," he began, his guard dropping. Kebechet was still next to him, at least, so he wasn't too worried about a sudden attack. Even if this Xechasmenos wanted that, she could see already that if she dared bring harm to him she would have a whole group of wolves on her in an instant. "We are not a pack, we all are rogues who just happened to find each other and stick together, at least for the winter where we will need all our strength to catch whatever prey presents itself. Obviously I am not a hunter, so these guys were happy to take me with them. I have no issue with you staying, as long as you try to keep the confrontation on the down low." He snickered jokingly. At this point Knox had asked Kebechet for a walk, and if she agreed, him and the giant would be alone once more.

Achak smiled as Shale chased after it, he was happy his new friend could hunt along side him, he panted softly trotting up to him. The excitement on Shale's face surprised him for only a moment, he grinned as well. "Yep Better than nothing, plus we can try catching something else later." He nodded quickly sitting. "You eat first." Achak said calmly, Shale was much smaller and faster than him therefore he'd rather him get the fattier parts of the rabbit to make sure he didn't get to weak to chase things. "And nice job, I'm not really good at hunting I wasn't sure what to do." He flattened his ears slightly chuckling softly.

Kaira remained there watching the rest from afar, her ears were like always pinned against her skull in a clear sign of fear. She feared to be treated badly if she ever came close to them so that was the main reason she held her distance from them. She would curl down hiding her nose under her white tail. A bunch of scars rested on the teen's body. Amber eyes shut to retain some peace. She was actually tired and wanted to have some rest. Being on the edge all the time took away her energy. She was tired of having to run whenever someone approached her, she was tired of not being able to sleep at night fearing to be attacked on her dreams. So as of now, she wanted at least some minutes to rest.

Shale blinked in surprise at Achak's offer. "Are you sure?" he asked, uncertain whether the other wolf meant what he said. Achak's soft laugh reassured him, and he set to work on the rabbit, enjoying the feeling of finally having something satisfying in his stomach. "I know what you mean," he said between bites, "about having trouble when it comes to hunting. I didn't have time to learn, well, anything really, before my old pack fell apart. To be honest, I wasn't expecting us to do so well with the rabbit." He swallowed one last bite of meat, surprised how quickly he'd grown full. There was still more than half of the rabbit left, and he pushed it in Achak's direction. "Here," he said. "I'm finished."

"Same," says Nooné with the most genuine chuckle she had heard out of him yet, not one of nervousness or embarrassment. It was good hearing a chuckle like that, however small, it felt like progress. "Rabbit... at least I think so... Can't pick up exactly how many of them are, but they can't be that far away," he says with a smile on his face. "As long as there are two or more, that's good with me," she remarks. Although, she didn't suppose she would mind sharing a rabbit with him either. "Used to live near a place where it was full of them, I'd go with my brothers and see who catched more every few weeks," he says, and when Aenemys looks at him, she sees the wistful look of reminiscence on his face. She wished she had memories that good to reminisce on. "We'd be out the whole afternoon trying to catch the damn things! I wasn't even good at it. Only got to win one of our matches, now that I remember." Aenemys looks back ahead and lets out a little laugh, envisioning mini Nooné trying but failing to catch as many rabbits as his siblings. The scent of rabbits came on strongly, and Aenemys supposed they were near enough now to find their own to hunt and get cracking. Breakfast was sounding really good right about now. "Well, I hope you're able to catch one of the suckers now because I think we're just about on top of them," she says playfully. Picking up a trot, she lets her nose draw her to a concentration of the appetizing smells, then goes into her sneaky hovering crouch, looking back over her shoulder blade at Nooné and smiling before turning her head back and using lithe, silent movements to carry herself towards the closest and strongest ground scent of rabbit. Soon, she thinks she sees a small bundle of coarse, brown hairs, quivering slightly with erratic breath and occasionally hopping a foot or so away to inspect some new ground. Once the snowdrop of a wolf had gotten close enough, she got into her position, waited for the creature to still, and sprints for it. The ball of fury immediately makes its own run, spreading its legs out in near horizontal lines before closing them together on the ground in its strides. When Aenemys has enough of an advance on it, she jumps for it and aims her claws at the mass. Her paw made contact with a hairy struggling warmth. It seemed her paw only came down on the damned thing's hind leg and it was almost able to escape because of so, but Aenemys quickly saw and, unwilling to lose her breakfast, grabbed at its pipes with her jaws and finished it off fast. Satisfied, and releasing a couple of breaths with sighs from the exertion of sprinting for a short couple of seconds, she sits next to her meal and looks at her partner, Nooné, to observe his happenings. The figure in the distance did not stir after her greeting. Intrigued, Spirit approached the wolf under the tree. It was Kaira. The ebony lady appeared to be sleeping, with her eyelids slid shut tightly. Why was she sleeping outside the cozy cave? It didn't seem comfortable at all, apart from the shade the tree provides. The crunching of snow stop as Spirit halted before her. It was then, her silver-glazed eyes were drawn to Kaira's ears. They were flattened against her head - a sign of fear. Bad dreams, maybe? Quietly, Spirit debated whether to wake the yearling up. It's rude to disturb a sleeping wolf... but I don't think anyone enjoys nightmares.. With that, the Arctic Wolf crouched down a little and gave Kaira a gentle nudge, humming softly: "Morning."
"It's a lovely morning,"Spirit continued, bringing nothing about Kaira's bad dream up. After all, she didn't want to remind the she-wolf about it, given how she seemed so frightened from it. "This doesn't seem like the best place to sleep at. The snow is rather cold, don't you think? It's much warmer in the cave."
