Yeesh! Could the common grounds be any further away form the hunting grounds? Why couldn't they be closer?! The billowing smoke monster had moved considerably since his departure from the hunting grounds. It wasn't just a big ol' thing in the distance anymore. The peppery flavoured scent was tickling both his nostrils and his eyes as his blonde bouncy frame jumped into the luscious common grounds. Visibility was getting lower and lower as every minute passed, and he was smart enough to know that finding a certain little black she-wolf in a haze of grey was going to be much harder than in plain day light.
The familiar feeling of adrenaline freezing his muscles began to threaten his movements. The fight or flight instinct in Parker's brain was seemingly broken. He didn't want to stay in the commons at all, in fact, he would much rather run, but he was momentarily frozen. It was like a deer in headlights. He was simply stuck in his own fear, hyperventilating on smoke. That is, until he coughed and snapped himself out of his frozen stupor. He had a job to do dang it! He had a damsel in distress in these lands somewhere, and he needed to find her!
"Macha!" the sandy male yelled over the increasing roar of the fire, "Macha, where are you!" The sandy male had no clue that she had no possible way of hearing him. He only knew that she had a stutter and an odd speech pattern. It had literally never crossed his juvenile mind that she could be deaf. "Macha! Macha! Macha!" He sprinted around the commons, barking his bloody head off. He was getting desperate to find her. The last time he saw her she was cowering under Mochi. His first plan of attack, or rescue, was to find the big fluffy odd ball.
His stormy grey eyes scanned through the thickening haze, searching for his damsel's dude, but he couldn't find him. He did however, find Snow Rose. She looked to be alone. With a sinking feeling in his stomach, Parker bounded closer. Maybe she was hiding under the Salutary's legs? Maybe he just couldn't see her through the smoke and the tears that pricked at his eyes due to the irritable gas. Now he was scared. Really really scared. Where was she? Seriously, how was she not with Snow Rose? She could be with Mochi, but he couldn't find him, so that was a useless endeavor.
The whites of Parker's eyes shone with fear as the blaze approached. All his thoughts in the hunting grounds were coming true! All of them were going to die! Mochi, Macha, Snow Rose, himself, everyone. He couldn't find the most precious wolf to him at the moment, and that was causing him serious stress. His chest heaved as smoke began to penetrate his lungs. He needed to leave, but there was no way that he was running away from the fire without a certain she-wolf. "Macha!" he hacked out, his eyes burning with the winds alliance with the smoke. How dare it. He was so going to kick the wind's butt for siding with such an awful thing.
He was getting desperate. The teenage male panicked and began to suck in all the air that he could through his nose. There had to be some scent buried under the overpowering smell of smoke. There just had to be! He needed to find her - it would scar him forever if he wasn't able to. He wasn't trying to hide it, tears were rolling down his cheeks. His eyes were irritated and sore, and he also couldn't find Macha. Both the smoke and his inability to find the she-wolf were killing him.
At last, through the scent of smoke and burning brush, he found a few particles of scent. He could have collapsed with relief. Or maybe it was oxygen deprivation? Keeping his nose to the ground, the now invigorated new hunter tracked the scent. She was still here! She wasn't with Mochi, she wasn't with Snow Rose, she was all alone! He didn't have time to ponder on the reasons of her new independence. He only needed to find her, and find her fast. His nose gradually locked onto her scent, and he followed it without hesitation. It was leading him to her. It was the thing that was keeping his panicked brain sane for the moment. Parker's smoke clogged nose lead him to a hole. A small hole, but still a big enough hole that the one wolf he was looking for could be hiding in. Why she was hiding in a time of great danger was also another question he would have to ask later. Much much later.
The blonde male stuck his head into the tight burrow, and there she was. Macha. He almost broke down right there. She was okay. She was here all along. But now it was time to leave. "Macha! Let's go!" he barked, not knowing that the she-wolf couldn't hear him. His paws scrabbled at the entrance, breaking away the small opening of the den to create a bigger one. She wasn't moving. Her head was tucked firmly under her paws. It was like she wanted to die in the fire! With a determined puff, Parker reached out and latched his teeth onto Macha's scruff, similar to the way that Joktan and done to him. She wasn't going to move on her own, so Parker was going to move her for her.
He didn't let go of her scruff until the pair of them were fully out of the burrow. To be honest, he was a little shocked that she didn't run away! It would have been so much better for her if she had, but so much worse for Parker. He would likely never have found her. As he simply stared at her, the wind shifted. Before, the blaze was barreling towards them, aided by the traitorous breeze, but now, the wind hit his face from the opposite direction. It was like the fire was running away! Maybe he wouldn't have to kick the wind's butt after all! With the breeze seemingly on the wolves' side now, Parker turned to Macha and gave her a big grin. He wanted to badly just to reach out at give her a lick on the cheek, but they were still surrounded by suffocating smoke, and thought the wind had shifted, with every minute it was getting harder and harder to properly breathe.
"Follow me! I know a place that's far enough from here that the fire shouldn't reach us!" Parker yelled over the fire. The tower of orange flames had drawn ever closer, and he didn't want to stay in the common grounds for any longer than he had to. He gave his pretty, ash covered crush a small poke with his nose, and began to run off. He turned around often, making sure that Macha was still beside him. He had spent so long trying to find her, he wasn't about to lose her again. If ever she fell behind of started to struggle, Parker would assist her, whether that meant keeping her on her paws or dragging her out by the scruff, he was going to make sure that both of them made it to the Birthing Den safely.
