| Azazel watched the den, seeing as two of them were currently standing outside of it, the others being inside. It seemed that there was one missing, the snarky one from the day before that had gotten rather cocky over her siblings mistake. Although he couldn’t blame her for feeling all high and mighty, it still was not something you threw in your siblings face while there were more important matters to face. He watched as the two moved from the den entrance, and something was off. Something radiated from the den, and soon enough, Jay was carrying the same bundle of fur towards the creek, the lifeless body hanging from his jaws as he moved away and soon came back after several minutes passed. He looked to see that the pups would travel to their parents den along with their father, but Azazel would not go find out what happened in the den. The pup had died, whether it be by natural causes, or forced upon him by Solex. It was none of Azazel’s business, so he kept to himself, hoping that others would wake so they could do something useful for once. | OOC: |

Rizeal awoke, well rested, in the morning she looked around at her siblings curiously but figured letting them sleep would be easier than dealing with them at this moment. She shook her fur softly carefully walking out of the den so she could sit slightly outside and watch the rest of the pack move as they all woke up and began tending to the day's work. She looked all of them seemingly to analyze all of their work. She huffed slightly, looking back at the den curiously, why had they come home late last night? Or more so why didn't she ever see them come home? She'd just awoken and they were there, almost like they'd always been. Shameful on them, not getting enough rest they'd be tired now, it would slow everything down. "How disappointing." She mumbled mainly to herself but didn't seem to care if anyone happened to over-hear her. She still stood watched vigilantly over the pack trying to intake all the information she could. She returned to the den for a moment to see how her mother was doing and noticed something off. Missing one. She thought softly, a soft pang of dread washed over her but soon passed. "How disappointing indeed." She slipped back outside calmly, it was curious to her that even as children the universe had already begun its natural selection process, first the hawk incident now this. The herd was slowly thinning the weak links and she hadn't even lifted a paw, although she felt a gentle sadness, she wouldn't let it show, letting your emotions get the better of you would be a mistake. That simply would not and should not be tolerated by anyone, especially the future alpha. She couldn't stomach the thought of her enemies seeing her emotions, the last thing they should see would be her disappointed and cold gaze, it should be burned into their memories. Rizeal yawned softly stretching a bit, the early morning finally catching up to her despite being well rested it was too early to be thinking of future victories.

be stronger than your excuses
Tangerine eyes fluttered open with a gentle grace as her deep and peaceful sleep was disturbed. Lips twitched into a smile as the scent of her mate enveloped her like a warm summer's breeze amidst the chill of winter, and Semira hummed gratefully against his welcome presence as he curled up beside her in their den. It was rare for them to have a moment of peace like this, all of their pups missing from the pile that usually filed the space of the den, her children probably chasing the warmth of the early morning sun or harassing each other with their games. But peace was a fragile thing, too easily broken.
"Ezikeal is dead." Such a gentle whisper carried such horrid news to her twitching ears, her sleep-glazed eyes growing wide as those words slapped her across the face.
Ezikeal, her youngest, and one of her only sons, was dead. That flowery feeling that had blossomed in her chest had suddenly turned to stone as her breath hitched in her throat, burning tears threatening to spill down her ebony cheeks.
A small and delicate kiss was swiped against her muzzle instead, looking down to watch as Natsu, her only son, curled himself up against her fore-limbs. A rattled breath echoed through the den as Semira savoured the innocent embrace of his tiny cranium against her shoulder. Without hesitation, she lowered her head and gently nuzzled his delicate neck, a comfort from mother to child as they lay together to mourn the loss of the youngest.
Words formed on her tongue with barely any power to drive them forward as she brushed her tail against Jay's rump. "Was there nothing that could save him?" Semira's question broke the stillness of the air, a mother curious to know if she had truely failed her youngest pup.

Could this day. Get. Any. Worse. First, she had to deal with children in the den on her honeymoon. Second, another one had been brought in and looked like hell. Third, Aislynn just had to go and ask her all the dumb, hard questions like, "Cyyy—Aspen. What’s happening? Why is everyone so—" How was she supposed to tell a kid what was happening? "Because," was the gruff response she chose to use while moving her torso so that it was closest to the dying pup and so it's siblings were shielded. Swinging her tail behind her, she tried to make contact with all three of the pups to give them some sort of comfort. She already knew that the rude, thick one didn't know what was going on, but the other seemed much more innocent, and that left Miyu, who almost definitely was crying again already. As her mate ordered the two pups at the den's mouth to clear out, Aspen resisted the urge to gulp. No, she wasn't scared. Or maybe she was. It had never occurred to her that her mate's occupation was to occasionally play executioner. Settling on a steeling exhale, the hunter sat rigidly as Solex moved about his den. She didn't question exactly what he fed the young pup, or what effect it would have. Deep down, she already knew the answer. She didn't expect herself to be so disturbed by the sight of the young body coughing out his stomach contents laced with blood. She had seen life taken many times, took it twice herself even, but to see someone so young be killed. It was unsettling. The brats behind her better be thankful that she was keeping them from seeing it. Wordlessly, Jay took his son from the den, and single worded, her mate expelled the two other pups from the den. Unfurling herself from Miyu's side, the Cyclops let him move her into another patch of moss to rest. As he wrapped his overly-large frame around hers, she pressed into his warmth and let her head rest solidly on his chest. “I’ve never had an issue doing that,” the admission in his whisper coaxed a shaky exhale from his smaller mate, “But that was possibly the hardest thing I’ve done in my life.” Closing her remaining eye, she hummed against his chest, not quite knowing what to say but wanting him to know that she heard. “Besides winning over your heart,” he muttered. With a huff, the spunky she-wolf tilted her head up to deliver a small nip to the base of his neck. "I don't know what you mean, I'm not difficult at all," she whispered back to him, the hint of a smile in her voice but the circumstances not quite letting her sarcasm reign supreme. The day was only just beginning, she had no inclination to sleep again. Currently, she was trapped comforting her mate, who was trapped caring for his niece who was now a) hopefully asleep and b) a part of the same half-blind club that she was. God Solex came with a lot of baggage. @miyu Salutary Solex @aislynn Hunter Natsu Scout Iylah Alpha Jay

She wanted to know what was going on. One of her favourite siblings, possibly her favourite, didn't look good at all when Dad had brought him in to see Miyu. Would she be able to go in and see her sister after he was done? She hoped so. Ti wanted to know what happened with both Miyu and Zekie. "You two, step away," Uncle Sol's constantly angry voice commanded her and her brother to move out of the way. That made sense, she didn't want to block the entrance of the den. Some really weird sounds were coming from inside the big den, as if they were having a roaring contest or something. Was that how medicine worked? It seemed weird, but then again so did eating plants. Just then, Dad emerged from the den again, shaking the little angel's thoughts back into the present. As her gaze turned towards the Alpha, Natsu's frame jostled her, knocking her away a bit. Scowling at his funny antics, she looked at her father's retreating frame only to see exactly why her brother had done it in the first place. Zekie. With a red mouth. And just hanging there. Dread and grief - dark emotions unfitting for a pup of her age - formed an anvil in her stomach. She tore her gaze away, not wanting to see that sight for any longer than the mere seconds that it scarred her retina. She felt breathless. As if someone had slammed her into a rock and stood on her stomach. Mutely, she followed her brother's prompt back to the den, her mind still swimming and her eyelids clinging to tears that were so stunned they didn't know to fall. As Natsu pressed himself into their mother's fur, Tikaani followed suit. She planted herself between her mother's forelimbs - squarely up against the supportive wall that was her chest. "Ezikeal is dead," her father whispered to the head just above hers. And that's what caused the tears gathered in her eyes to leave her. In one foul blow, a series of heart-wrenching sobs left the small pup. She didn't even fully know what death meant, but it meant that Zekie was gone. She couldn't even hear what her mother said over the sound of her own crying. The heartbroken pup only felt the vibration echoing through her mother's chest. The tears in her eyes were going to take a while to dry, but the heaviness in her chest was going to take much much longer to go away. Her question hung limply in the air, unanswered and unaddressed. The Cyclops had deemed her worthy of one word, a single turn of phrase to explain why everything was happening the way it was. “Because,” She’d growled sharply, ignoring Iylah’s frightened incessant line of questioning. Instead she positioned herself precariously in front of them, blocking their view of Father, Uncle, and Ezikeal. Curiously, she cocked her copper head upwards, straining gently. To no avail; the Cyclops was simply too large to look past. For some reason, it only ignited a new air of desperation. Something horrible was happening; she could feel it. As much as she made fun of him, Ezikeal was still her brother, hers, and she needed to know. Retching gags reverberated from the blockade, only sparking a further flurry of effort. Aspen’s thick alabaster tail swept her away, pressing her against her littermates, who’d already given way to terror. Soft, budding snarls threatened to spill from her foaming lips, barely contained with the knowledge that this was not, of all times, a good moment to do so. There was a final sputter; a helpless, tiny hack of life, and then worst of all: silence. Something bad happened. And then, as her father stepped to the side, she saw. Her brother was dead. For the first time in Aislynn’s short life, she was silent. What was there left to say? “Out,” Uncle Solex commanded. She and her siblings obliged without further word, transfixed on the stiff form dangling from their father’s muzzle. Ezikeal, who had been happy, alive, healthy a night ago, had passed on. Blood dripped from a formerly pert mouth; the jutting misshapen jaws forever parted. There was the question that lay perched on the tip of her tongue, dangling: why? How could something that such a short while had been here no longer exist? She racked her brain recklessly, desperate for something, anything resembling an answer. There was nothing — except for Aspen’s course answer. “Because.” Was that all there was to it? Wolves simply withered away “just because?” And nothing could be done? She froze, slowly coming to the realization that it didn’t just apply to Zeke. It could happen to absolutely anybody, even Father, even Miyu, even her. Life as a whole was incessantly, cruelly short, and she stood helpless to stop it. This has been the first time she’d truly been touched by death, and she was paralyzed, mute as the day she was born. What on earth was the point in anything? "Ezikeal is dead," her father whispered to her mother. Instantly, Tikaani burst into tears. Aislynn listened aloofly. For once, she’d leave her be. Natsu quietly nestled his downy head against Mother, attempting to provide assurance. "Was there nothing that could save him?" She heard her ask softly. Aislynn settled her tawny head on her paws, silently wondering similar things. Was it possible that this could have been — any of it — somehow their fault? Perhaps she’d hurt him somehow, when they were roughhousing, and hit his head or something along those lines. Perhaps she’d distracted everyone so much with Miyu that nobody had noticed Ezikeal was ailing. And it somehow, those suspicions were true, she wasn’t quite sure if she could live with herself. She quietly shuddered. No, no, no — and even if it was, she knew he wouldn’t have wanted her, or any of their siblings for that matter, to live unhappily. She wouldn’t squander this gift she was given. As a matter of fact, she would live her life with double the intensity, to make up for what he had lost. Life was incessantly, hopelessly brief, capable of being stripped at any moment “just because.” She wouldn’t waste hers. The tears bubbling in Miyu’s eyes spill over as Zekie’s body begins to convulse and foam at the mouth. She wants to look away, but she can’t, mismatched gaze unblinking in their horror. Was this really the puppy that had been playing in the snow only a few days ago, who cracked jokes and drooled on her pelt and always always had a game to cheer her up? Her body shakes and trembles as the terrible seizing finally stops, Ezikeal breathing his last. It isn’t long until Uncle Sol ushers all remaining out of the den apart from Aspen, nosing her to her bed. She is still so shocked that she stumbles and trips, barely flinching when it jostles at her wound. The nest is soft where she falls anyhow. With a shuddering breath, she rubs her cheeks against the ground to clear the wet from her face for the second time. So much crying had caused her head to pound in a way unrelated to her eye. It was time to stop, before Solex shooed her out of the den too. Curling up in her bedding, she peers through the dark of the cave to where the two adults lay. They seemed so cozy, finding comfort in one another. If she stayed over here, it would be her first time ever sleeping alone - consciously, at least. The idea sounded horrid, especially after what had happened, and if she couldn’t go lay with her litter then perhaps - perhaps Solex and Aspen would welcome her? Carefully, slowly, she creeps over to their sides, imagining that she is some stealthy wolf going unseen in the shadows (despite the fact that she is most definitely noticed). With minimal wriggling, she squished her way between their two flanks before rolling onto her back, enclosed on both sides by a wall of black and white. No protests she can hear are forthcoming, so the midnight babe finally falls into an emotionally exhausted sleep, cheek pressed flush against her uncles side as tiny snores leave her muzzle.
