Astro had followed her willingly, much to her delight. She had been extremely excited to show him this little cave, and he seemed equally excited to explore it. There was definitely more hidden deeper in the mountain, but she didn’t want to explore alone. Exploring a place alone was how one got lost, and if she had Astro by her side, she knew that they wouldn’t get lost. As he suggested a game of hide and seek, her butt wiggled in delight, eyes shining brightly as he wanted to explore every inch of the cave she had found. She gave an eager smile before whipping through the tunnel, heading further into the center of the mountain. She would definitely be able to follow their scents out, and with the vast amount of tunnels, she knew there would be many hiding spots. Small paws trotted through, Astro probably having followed her. She was in awe as the sun that peeked through hit against brightly colored gemstones that were hidden from sight when her shadow was cast over them. She trotted up to one, eyes gleaming as she found one that looked rather cool. She would definitely have to come back and get it so she could have it as a little souvenir for traveling. She would have offered it to Corvidae if he hadn’t departed from the group already.
Bringing herself through the tunnels, she gasped with excitement as her eyes flickered through the almost pitch black tunnels. “It feels like there’s no end,” She said, looking back over her shoulder. “But you gotta catch me if you plan to be playing hide and seek!” She quipped before dashing off and out of his sight. She rolled around on the floor, covering herself with dirt so that her scent would be hidden, or at least masked a bit. Finding a small crevice, she giggled a bit, feeling like a pup once more as she hid herself there, waiting for Astro to pass before she would spring her plot to surprise him.

"My goal?" Shale repeated. "I don't know, really. I never planned on being out here on my own. Everything happened so quickly when my old alpha died; suddenly everything was chaos, everyone fighting to be the new leader. Well, except me. I just wanted everything to stop. And it did, eventually, but then everyone went their separate ways and now here I am. I haven't had the chance to think about what I might want to do. Honestly, it doesn't matter that much to me. I've never really aspired to earning high ranks or anything like that. I just want to join a pack because then I feel like...I belong somewhere." He fell silent for a moment, staring at the ground before looking back up at Achak. "And if you wanted to join me, I wouldn't mind. You don't have to, though, not if that's not what you want."

Achak smiled softly, he liked hearing his new friend's goals, he was glad he had some. Unlike Shale, Achak had been simply living moment by moment and not caring about much other than himself. He nodded. "I understand, chaos is often what people lean on when things don't go as planned." He listened to Shale calmly as he spoke, he wanted to know what he'd planned out. "I've never been good at hunting, well being alone I had to learn but I'd rather protect my pack than hunt all day, and ranks are just I guess more for organization, at least that was how my pack was." He paused slightly before answered. "I'd like to join you, since we've become such fast friends I feel it'd be good to know someone in a new place." He nodded his tail wagging softly back and fourth.

Mismatched green and white eyes scanned the terrain around her, her small frame gliding with wind-like grace across the mossy rocks, knees bent enough so that her lighter colored belly brushed across the soft plant growth, feeling the solid sediment underneath. The wind blew threw the valley, ruffling her thick, black fur sending the winter chill down her spine. The mismatched eyes glanced about, nose sniffing carefully into the wind, she had been unsuccessful in her hunting adventures the past few days, and the perfectionist ideals in her mind were going absolutely insane. Her stomach was tight from the lack of food and she was beginning to get desperate in her hunting, going after just about anything that could prove to be a potential meal. Shikoba's pale white eye disappeared within in her iris, making her appear as if one eye was never developed all the way, if her perfectionist tendencies didn't scare wolves away her eyes usually did the trick.
Shikoba's nose began sniffing carefully at the air, birds voiced their presence around her, but they were only a nuisance to her, an obstruction to her main goal, hunting. She tuned out the birds, keeping herself focused on the task at hand, she had messed up the days before, a slip of the paw on some rocks, or not being in the right position and being smelt before she could get close enough to close in, she knew that another day without food could mean her demise. She slipped through the dead grass that clung so valiantly to come back up as green once again in the spring in summer.
The mismatched eyes scanned fervently, the birds would be an unsatisfying meal, anything else would be good, ground hogs, hares, squirrel, she'd even take a rat at this point, just not a bird, not that stringy, feather-filled meat. As she was thinking upon the possibilities an underfed squirrel made it's way across the slope in front of her. The moss and rocks kept the she-wolf well hidden apparently, as the squirrel paid no mind to her, she lowered herself towards the ground again slowly, glancing down to the ground before she took a step so as not to make a sound. The squirrel was searching fervently through the dead grass for anything to eat, unknowingly ignoring the most prominent threat only thirty yards away. The small female took a couple more steps forward, placing every paw down gently making virtually no sound but the soft movement of moss. Then, without thought, the black furred female shot from her spot, ensnaring a weak, thin squirrel in ravenous jaws and refusing to let go of the meal she had been searching for, for days. The female moved to a place she was out of sight enough to avoid anything that could sneak up on her, or catch her eating, and began to devour her meal, proud of the catch, but already nitpicking at what she could have done better to minimize energy loss, or to increase her hunting success in the future.

If Gods existed, Mirai, thought, the mountain prairie would be their hideaway. Their safe haven. The towering slopes of rock had donned their winter finery, sweeping long, flowing coats of satiny white over their shoulders whose hems cascaded down within the prairie itself. It would have seemed ironic, given how void of life and deathly still the place was. How could it be Eden on earth, never mind the playground of deities? But wolves who didn't come to the Valley would never have known the bruised blue sky as it was now. Or the sharp, chilling air that pierced her throat with each deep inhale. The green had not yet completely faded for it was still early, and while surveying the valley walls one would have seen large patches of moss combating the powdery white, tinges of life where there were none. Mirai sniffed the air, poised like a marble statuette atop a slick, flat rock that lay embedded in the ground a short distance from the cave mouth she had just emerged from. It was cold. Perhaps not cold enough to make her want to curl up and sleep, but cold enough to send a mind-numbing chill darting through her body. It had been a while since the she-wolf had last eaten, but Mirai thought she could still last for a while despite the pangs of hunger that kicked at her belly. Occasionally she picked up the tantalizing scent of prey, and saliva would begin to pool within her maw, yet she would realize it belonged to some passing bird and was probably way beyond her reach. In half-irritation, she lashed her tail and leaped down from the rock in one bounding stride. How lovely it would be, to have a pack she could call her own and packmates to hunt with. If there was anything that life had taught Mirai, it was that you were stronger with numbers. Moose wouldn't simply roll over, dead, for any scavenging wolf to pick up. Deer didn't hunt themselves. If there was anything Mirai had learned the hard way, it was that a lone wolf could be so utterly useless. For now, the view of the vast prairie was food enough. Mirai listened to the crackle of snow underfoot and the distant calls of some unnameable birds as she padded further away from the cave, piercing brown eyes roving across her surroundings for any signs of movement. And then she saw it. But certainly not the sort of movement she was expecting. Mirai blinked, and skittered back on her paws a couple paces, attempting to get a better glimpse of the dark shape suddenly bolting across the moss. It was another wolf. Another wolf! Perhaps the first one she had seen since she came to this land. Suddenly fueled with energy, the silver female carefully strode forward, taking care to keep a respectable distance between this stranger and herself. The other wolf seemed to have caught a squirrel and was already devouring it ravenously when Mirai cleared her throat softly. She didn't want to startle the wolf in any way. "Excuse me?" the silver female began politely, her soprano voice a tad stiffer than it usually was. "If it isn't such a burden, and if you are willing, I'm a little unsure where to go in this Valley." It wouldn't be so unbelievable if this strange dark-furred she-wolf rejected Mirai's request for a guide. This was coming from a complete stranger who had probably just intruded on her meal, and she couldn't yet tell if she was hostile or not. Hopefully she could be saved from quite a bit of embarrassment. tagged: @shikoba

Shale exhaled in relief without realizing he was doing it, and immediately dropped his gaze briefly in embarrassment. He hadn’t meant to sound over-eager, but ever since meeting Achak he had been felt much more at ease being outside of a pack. He was relieved to know that his new friend would be there with him when the time came to start a new chapter as well.
“Of course,” he said. “It’d be easier than trying to join a pack by ourselves. Honestly, I’m not sure I’d really try to join one if I was by myself. I’d probably just wait at the borders wishing I had the courage to join.” He laughed ruefully. “Is that where your interest has always been?” he asked after a moment. “Protecting the pack?”

Snow crunched audibly beneath large black paws as Kylo followed after his Coy-wolf companion, the very same who had assured him this rocky place must be a shortcut leading to a place with bigger game than the occasional lizard or squirrel; the slim pickings of prey never felt like enough to sustain him, after all the Yukon male was huge in stature, this was not surprising. Ears pinned back as he had trouble traversing the snowy and rocky terrain, glad it wasn't windy to boot, he would be even more miserable. "You couldn't have picked a less rocky path?" The male grumbled deep in his chest, red and white hued eyes looking to Hux's ginger coat, stark against the snowy background, it was easy to keep track of him. Given a few more seconds, breathing in the cold air, Kylo began picking up scents that concerned him somewhat, Rogues. Black ears perked and he seemed to lift his head higher in an effort to scout somewhat. "Rogues." he said for only Hux to hear, continuing to follow after him. Just by scent the black male could tell there were a great many in the area, none smelling like any pack in particular, due to his experiences with pack wolves he could say that with certainty, His apparent curiosity having to do with these Rogues was why they were here, and why so many in this particular spot? Perhaps Hux was correct that this was a shortcut of sorts, but alas he was a coy-wolf, he trusted him as far as he could throw him, especially due to what had happened to the elder that used to loom over the both of them. @hux @mirai @shikoba

Shikoba's black fur ruffled in a chilling wind that rushed through the valley again, bringing with it a scent, many scents she had not picked up as of yet, one much too close for comfort. However, before she could look around to investigate a voice sounded behind her. The little, black female tilted her head slowly looking behind her and standing up, eyes on the rogue opposite her, cautious of course, but holding no fear, which was surprising for a wolf as small as her. Shikoba studied the female Mirai she seemed friendly enough, and her beauty was undoubted, but most of all Mirai just seemed confused and unsure, which was quickly proven from her statement. Shikoba looked about the valley, licking her lips to clean them of the blood from her meal, which still had a quarter of the stringy meat still clinging to the bones of the squirrel. Shikoba's eyes traveled back to Mirai, one white eye and the other emerald green, "I'm kind of new to the area myself, but you can come along with me if you would like, I always love to have travelling companions." Shikoba yawned and the scents came back to the front of her mind once more, "There are more rogues in the area though, definitely close, probably back the way I came, if you wanted to chance bringing more into our little duo I would be more than willing."Kylo @mirai

Hux padded along the winding, snowy road that he had deemed a shortcut, perilous as it was. Snow had blanketed the terrain of the valley, and his companion huffed and complained behind him. It seemed the brute always needed to eat, eating at least twice as much as Hux did. His skinny but lean stature must not need as much sustenance as he only ate one large meal a day then proceeded to help catch Kylo’s next, watching him tear into his prey with an inhuman appetite. The huffs that emitted from the gigantic male’s maw and the lumbering steps he took behind the coywolf made Hux sure they wouldn’t have the upperhand if they encountered any other wolves, though he supposed that wasn’t such a bad thing. Though they were hunting, and Hux knew Kylo needed his lunch, the coywolf also had hoped they would stumble across another pack, one that shared the same ideals as he and his ebony colored acquaintance. Hux found himself missing his general ranking, though the pack he had joined was somewhat small and weak at the time. He felt he had purpose and wished to feel that way once more. Emerald colored eyes scanned the horizon, swiveling his ears for any sign of food or foreign wolves as Kylo grumbled a saddened “You couldn’t have picked a less rocky path?” The General felt his hackles raise at such an infantile remark, choosing to ignore the statement to refrain from encouraging bad behavior. Scents of multiple wolves made themselves clear to him as he padded along, his hopes of running into a pack causing his enthusiasm to grown. None seeming to belong to a particular pack, this made Hux less excited. “Rogues,” Kylo spoke, causing Hux’s hackles to rise once more before his turned his head sharply. “My nose works just as well as yours, Kylo.” Kylo @mirai @shikoba

It was true, Kylo made no effort to be 'sneaky', such silly things had never been his strong suit, his strengths lay in his brute strength and strategy, the very yin to the coy-wolf's stealthy and cynical yang. Part of the Yukon sometimes wondered why Hux was the way that he was, what had he endured? Who had made him this way? Despite these thoughts it couldn't be said he did not sometimes admire how quick witted he was, or how quickly he could seem to turn things in their favor, he seemed a valuable ally, one he respected but did not trust just because it would be naive to. These thoughts occupying his mind he looked to the ginger canid, watching as his hackles rose, he knew within that bright colored pelt burned a short fuse, one he often lit. After mentioning the unfamiliar group of scents he heard Hux give reply while turning his head to him sharply. “My nose works just as well as yours, Kylo.” The ebony male pinned his ears back at this remark, then a thought crossed his mind that brought an almost smirk to his maw, ears standing straight once again, he remarked "Good idea taking point then, perhaps at first sight of you they will not perceive us as a threat." The jab was obviously aimed at his companions smaller size in comparison to other wolves, especially Kylo himself. @hux @mirai @shikoba

When the she-wolf readily agreed to Mirai's offer, the latter internally heaved a sigh of relief. It was good to know that the female with mis-matched eyes that Mirai actually found pretty was more than willing to take on travelling companions. Mirai herself, though evidently not the most social creature, could hardly pass up on some company when given the chance. And, she thought, a shiver snaking through her body, they would need all the help they could get in this bitterly cold weather. "I would like for us to travel together," she said in response to the dark wolf's words. "My name is Mirai. Do you intend on joining a pack sometime down the road?" Another draft of wind swept towards her velveteen nose, and it twitched slightly at the sudden influx of new scents. Though many of them were stale and possibly days-old, there were a couple that were startlingly fresh and near. As if on cue, her head whipped around in the direction of those potent wolf scents, searching for any glimpse of lupine movement that could flutter across the white terrain. More rogues? They certainly didn't smell like pack scents, nor did they possess any sort of cohesiveness. Mirai flicked a ear. For two dark shapes had suddenly come loping in their direction, with one visibly dwarfed by the other. She assumed they were travelling partners as she and the other female were soon becoming, but as they drew closer and their voices became more apparent, Mirai had a brief impression of two brutes very unwillingly thrown together to face some trial or tribulation. She knew there was no real danger. Mirai knew what impending doom felt like and this wasn't one of those emotions. She appraised the two males rather like an art critic would, though her hackles remained lowered and her ears erect. Perhaps one of them would say something first? She wasn't sure of their intentions approaching two females without so much as a warning, and besides they seemed much more preoccupied bickering amongst themselves than even face them. tagged: @shikoba @hux Kylo

Shikoba watched the other wolves patiently, the female didn't get nervous or frightened, not even thrown off by the presence of rogues, it was typical wolf nature to band together in troubling times, and living life as a rogue was hard enough, let alone living the rogue life in the middle of winter when prey was scarce. Shikoba's ears twitched as she listened to the banter between the two males, they didn't seem interested in Shikoba or Mirai at all, and that was fine with Shikoba, sometimes being unnoticed was better than being the center of attention. As the males continued to get nearer and nearer to them, Shikoba stretched her legs and then looked down to the mostly stripped carcass of the squirrel and back to Mirai, then picked the light meal up and walked quietly towards her new companion sitting down beside the larger female and dropping the animal at her paws. "You need to eat, you might not know the next time you get a meal, while there is food you've gotta be quick, preferably before they reach us."Every movement Shikoba made was calculated, precise, wasting no energy that didn't need to be expended, every word she said was mulled over and run through in her mind in a matter of seconds. Nothing the little, black-furred female did was less than perfectly calculated for maximum effect, her perfectionist qualities had become worse the longer she went without a pack, and had strayed from her ideals about fighting and hunting into her everyday interactions, causing the careful calculations that everyone around her saw. As the females waited patiently, Shikoba slowly answered Mirai's earlier question, "I do plan on joining a pack someday, I just have not found any pack that can hold up to my ideals in the long run yet. My name is Shikoba," The female's mismatched eyes turned slowly towards Mirai, "What is your name?"

Astoria’s cave appeared to contain an endless array of wonders. Now the two of them were fully within its walls, Astro caught a glimpse of how undeniably massive it was. Astoria wriggled in whimsical delight at his proposition, thrilled with the prospect of exploring every last bit of it — and now that he was thinking of it, he grew excited too. There was so much that it’d take them days to explore it all, weeks till they’d ensured every last nook was exposed, cranny uncovered and pocket unturned. All the adventure that awaited, all the conversation to be held between them, all the stories to be told; it was almost too much for any wolf to process. Luckily, he’d every intention of indulging. As Astoria rounded the first corner, he caught a glimpse of how brilliantly the sunlight illuminated her fur and face, gently filtering through fawn-dark fur. Perhaps it was his own bias, but this bit of the cave seemed to shine brighter, he was certain of it. Had Astoria noticed it as well? “It feels like there’s no end,” she happily sighed, absorbed in the sight and smells around her. “But,” she yipped. “You gotta catch me if you plan to be playing hide and seek!” With that, she dashed forwards, racing at top speed, turning the corner, miraculously catching the side tunnels, and just like that, vanished out of sight. Astro huffed, amused that despite his best efforts, he’d been unable to find his feet quickly enough to catch up to the little hybrid. A formidable challenger to be certain, but he was well convinced he’d be able to face his favorite adventurer. As he entered the side tunnels, he noticed how slightly her scent had changed. A noble attempt to mask it but alas — he was the true hide and seek champion. “Now just where could she be?” He asked himself aloud with a soft grin. “Could she be… here?” He exclaimed, popping his head into the nook just adjacent to hers. “Orrrr here!” He yipped, hopping onto his hind legs and popping his nose into a small crack in the rock ceiling. “Orrr,” He growled playfully, wriggling his haunches as he pounced into her crevice. “Here!”Tagged: Astoria

The orange young male had to admit he was a bit embarrassed having to interrupt the two to ask for food for himself. He felt like a pup, except he knew he wasn't, so it was worse. A pup could ask for someone to hunt for them and it be fine. Tenzin knew the group was risking injury with him around. He needed help eating, which took away a wolf hunting for themselves. He couldn't fight effectively, so if he was attacked he would need help, which would put whoever jumped in in danger. They could always just leave him as the weakest link, even kick him away from the group and he would understand, and yet they all helped him as much as they could. It was incredibly heartwarming, and he held those who chose to help to a high standard. He wanted to respect those that aided him with all of the manners and advise he could give. Some have expressed that it wasn't necessary at all, but Tenzin insisted. It was the least he could do, since he couldn't really contribute to the group in actually useful ways. Being a Buddhist, Tenzin has accepted that his place is a different one, but he also understood that nature wasn't kind. It was not hateful, but it did not give any favors either. It was unapologetic in the way it operated, and one had to have a hard resolve to survive it, especially alone or, in his case, disabled. Noone, being the kind wolf he was, went to invite the russet male for another hunt, but cut himself off, realizing what he was saying. Tenzin simply gave a warm smile to him and nodded to Aenemys respectfully, hearing her feet shuffling so he could locate her general direction. "I'm very thankful. If there is anything you need that I can do, let me know so I may repay the both of you. I insist. I have to find some way to give back to all of you."Aenemys Nooné

Achak pondered for a moment at Shale's question, after an uncomfortably long pause he blurted out. "Yes." He nodded then continued; "Even though I have never really been in a pack that long before protecting others is what I want to do and what I feel most comfortable doing" He paused as if thoughts were just entering his mind. "I think its a part of who I am now, I wasn't able protect my previous pack so I have a need to protect my future one." His ears shrunk a little but slowly perked back up as he spoke, he hadn't thought about it much before but it all made sense now, not being able to protect the people he cared for and finding them, had been his driving force for years. Now that he'd lost the search, he needed a new goal, if he didn't find one he'd just be drifting in the wind like a lost soul. His mind was slowly making its own plan of joining a pack, Shale had helped him see that he needed to be around others to truly live and be happy. "Do you know of any packs around here?" He asked tilting his head.
