―――――――――― Alphess Marusya of Ignasia ――――――――――
The trip started well enough, until they almost needed to take half a days rest after the massive vision both her and Koga received. For most of the wolves this was the first time seeing their "powers" happen. Afterwards the two relaxed against one another, mostly for Marusya's sake. Koga was still more powerful and seemed to be ready to move out once more. Marusya felt weaker after that dream, another vision about her supposedly having pups but this time with a timeline. Another pup stood next to her own, one that looked like Maleah and Cayden. This vision was enough to set Marusya on edge over having to birth another litter, but also in glee over her friend having a potential lover in the future. Since then Marusya grew close to Cayden and supported his attempts at getting with Maleah. Of course, Maleah would have no choice if she ended up fighting, but Marusya would not let that happen. Since then she would go back and forth to the front to visit Maleah and the pups, telling her tells of Cayden and his feats.
Other than those times Maruysa had been quiet during the trip, observing her wolves to better understand them. They were all in need of a re-evaluation and Koga agreed. During the trip they observed each one closely, analyzing and picking them a part. At the arrival of their territory, ranks were given out. Ky shot to Beta, Koga's right hand command. Cayden shot to Delta at Marusya's suggestion, of course Koga would have place the male at a high rank regardless, but Cayden grew on Marusya so she wanted him closer to the pair. Maleah remained Apprentice and Nanny, for the time being. Marusya had plans for her but was waiting for the right moment, waiting to see the right click and understanding in her eyes. Psyche went to Hunter, Stanley remained Omega, Quentin remained Omega. The pups became Apprentices. Miyako still remained a Slave until Marusya was able to convince her that a breeder and sow fit her perfectly, but that would require more training and time. Perhaps Vivaldi can help her later? Xalie as another case altogether, only her and Koga knew the full truth and would keep it that way. Everyone else would simply know that she ran off one night with Suki.
Miyako had also given birth, in reward for seven healthy pups birthed Miyako was allowed to name five of the seven. Two got named by her daughters Imset and Anubis, as rewards for a successful, uneventful trip from the litter. They pups will start being trained at 3 months old, at 2 months they were still too tiny in Marusya's opinion. The pups were also above rank compared to their mother. They are born from a slave but would not receive the same fate unless they have them a reason to be treated like a slave. Otherwise, they were pups who would grow to be members of either Mortiul or Ignasia. If Miyako proved to be difficult the pups would be slowly taken away and given to Maleah to raise, as she has proved to be a better caregiver than most.
With that catchup in thoughts over the last two months done, Marusya slowly slunk her way from her den. Stretching forward she looked to see that only Ky stood ready for the day. Which was fine, he seemed to have just as much difficulty sleeping as Marusya did and there was nothing wrong with that in the eyes of Adjetni. However, not seeing her pups ready to go she went to their den where a rock stuck from the ground. She figured out that scratching this object reverberated in their den and worked excellent as an alarm clock. When she turned she spotted Psyche going to bother Quentin, at least she could keep an eye on him. The last month Marusya grew less patient with the snarky wolf, but they were in their clutches and he was dumb to think he would be able to leave if this life proved to difficult for him.
Slinky over to Miyako's den before heading out, she found her gathering her brood and waking them up. Frowning a little she sat near the entrance and peered in. She seemed to too preoccupied over the worry of Quentin and Psyche to have noticed her own approach.
"Good morning little ones, I'm sure you must be thirsty this morning," she laughed as she remembered her own pups insufferable thirst. Turning with kind eyes to Miyako, "And how is the mother doing today? Good, I'm glad, please let Cayden and Maleah know if you need anything at all today, we don't want you to grow weak after such a large birth, they need their mother nice and strong after all." Marusya made the visit short and quick, she would return and teach her later. But for now, Marusya was working on report with her.
She turned and saw her own pups leaving their den, moving to get work done today. Good. Nodding her head and satisfied the rest could be left up to Koga, Marusya headed off towards Mortiul common grounds. She figured Vivaldi's pups would be old enough to be left with others and she could take her friend and go for a walk, or a hunt. Which made Marusya excited, being able to leave and socialize as she needed to. How grand her life had become!

PUP ZAYN
OF
IGNASIA
Zayn was awake last, his body pushed around by Myles until he made a grunt. Opening his eyes he saw his mother seeming to try and gather all of them. As her paw came his way to push him closer he rolled onto his back and gnawed at her paw. Her jerk movement away had him letting out a small whine. Rolling to his feet he moved his way to Talya, plopping on top of her playfully biting her ear. "What's mom on about?" he would whisper, hoping to not get her attention. Ever since he could remember his mom had been this way while others just seemed... relaxed? Zayn thought that was the correct word in this situation.
Finally Talya pushed him off and he just grunted in acceptance. He went over to Myles next and instead of play bites or pushes, he liked at his brother. His affection was minimal and only would be given out to his two siblings, the others were... annoying. They were much too goody goody for him and he didn't enjoy their company as much. He flopped into Talya again before resigning himself to lazily relax on the ground. He would listen to her plans if she wanted to leave or try to escape, but he wouldn't let them go past the commons. Something in his chest told him that was a bad idea.

One by one, her children roused themselves from their slumber, well-accustomed to her worrying, tiresome ways. She’d accidentally struck Myles in her fervor — his shrill yelp sent a sliver of sadness rippling through her being, but she brushed it off — she was only acting in his interests. Luckily, Lotus had already shaken her sisters awake. With Rome and Tayla up, the rest of the litter was bound to follow, with the exception her youngest pair. This time, Mutt had managed a minute of solitude before sealing himself to his brother’s side, curled softly within his warmth. If it’d been a more convenient morning, or she’d been a more typical mother, cooing and cawing over every display, she might have marveled at them for a moment. Unfortunately for the brothers, today was neither the time nor place, and Hound’s laziness actively leeched his littermates’ most valuable resource: time. Every moment was a necessity. Grasping his grey scruff, she yanked Hound onto his paws, forcing him to stand up straight. If Mistress came to call, she’d be damned if a single pup’s slothfulness sent the others soaring into her bad graces. And that included Zayn — if her oldest lingered anywhere near, she’d do the exact same thing before straightening herself for her inspection, perhaps sorting her seven or so pups out and tidying them up a bit if she found the time. "Good morning little ones, I'm sure you must be thirsty this morning." Automatically, her auburn muzzle lowered, dipping in respect. Mistress had come on cue, as expected. "And how is the mother doing today?” Miyako tensed, managing to stammer a stiff well. Time had taught her that was all she truthfully wanted to hear. “Good? I'm glad,” she purred, her eyes shimmering with an uncharacteristic amiability. It was that air of goodness that confused her, rattling her tired head more than it already had been. How could a wolf so cold and commanding be soft spoken? How could such a sweet, gentle rasp have caused her such pain? “Please,” She pressed on, roving over her litter. “Let Cayden and Maleah know if you need anything at all today.” She took a tentative step back at the proposal. Cayden, from what she had seen, was little more than a saner version of Ky. The only difference was his master, incredulous as it seemed, was Maleah. She, of course, was blissfully unaware of the absolute power she possessed, but it was there, tangible and complete as Master’s own. “We don't want you to grow weak after such a large birth,” Miss swiftly concluded, perhaps witnessing her initial hesitation. “They need their mother nice and strong after all." With that, she departed, slipping out seamlessly into a wonderfully silent world. An odd rare kindness on her behalf, but she’d accept it no matter what malicious intent backed it. One thing she could say was that they weren’t staying, not a single pup in the entirety of this large bastard litter, at least not in the Commons. She couldn’t bear it anymore: Ky’s consistent, blood-curdling cackles, Quentin’s sharp, cruel sneer or the overbearing threat of Master’s presence. A moment’s peace was all she needed to still her frenzied heart and catch her breath, but she wouldn’t find it here. Slowly, her sorrel head twisted over her shoulder, regarding her brood with desperate, wild eyes. Just somewhere — safe, and secure enough that none of them could possibly find a way to wound themselves, and she’d be satisfied. An outing could help. The den was dreadfully cramped anyways, with the walls practically caving in on themselves, but perhaps that too was the works of her overtaxed imagination. Where they could go was the true question at hand. Mortiul was teeming with danger, and the caves were stocked with tunnels puppies could easily lose themselves in. Perhaps a walk by the banks Stan had shown her — and then, with a wondrous stroke of genius, she’d her solution. “Let’s g-o.” She spoke shortly, her mind firmly made up. Cautiously, she crouched as close as she could to the earth. Problematic, troublesome packmates loomed everywhere, and the last thing she wanted was to have one close to her. Quentin was being distracted by Psyche, who seemed determined to cause some catastrophic trouble in teasing him, but her foolishness was Miyako’s benefit. “Stay aw-a-ay from Quen-en-tin. He is not like u-us. Will hu-ur-urt you,” She cautioned, a single auburn forelimb poking from the safety of the den. “Follow clo-se and all—will—be—well.” Pinkish eyes poured over the gathered eyes, seeking out a single dappled male in particular. Where the hell was he, he’d made it, she had seen him make it, so why, why couldn’t she find hi— Oh, there he was. Right by the brush as always. Without a warning to her brood, she emerged, slinking up to the male in what typically would be a hunter’s crouch. It kept her somewhat hidden, close to the earth, smaller than she actually was. Hopefully, nobody would bother her, taunting her pups as to whether they knew they were bastards, jeeringly asking if she was seeking out another stud — regardless of what they bellowed, she remained supremely focused, not stopping till she reached Stanley’s side. “Stan—ley.” She rasped, shaking his side with an outstretched paw. “Would yo-ou like to go — fishing with me?” She prayed silently he’d understand the implications. “We’ll be wait-ing by-y the ba-anks. A-ll of us.” Curiously, she cocked her head, hoping to spot a speck of recognition. “See yo-u there.” Her pups lingered in her peripherals. “Come on no-ow,” She yipped, gesturing over to the border’s edge. “Let’s mo-ove.”

The pup's dark, puffy puppy coat blended into the ground upon which he walked, light colored eyes slowly traveling about the den as he listened to his mother. Mutt didn't want to go anywhere, he wanted to stay here, try to at least get one of the other wolves to take some kind of interest in him, but when it came to his mother's requests he knew better than to deny her. Small body slipping quickly over the ground, bulky but still somehow seeming graceful, at least until he stepped on a loose rock he had thought was embedded in the ground. The small rock tipped upwards, not much, but the dark puppy quickly lost his balance, sticking his chin out so his muzzle didn't strike the ground, landing instead on his chest and neck. Mutt hurriedly scrambled back up and turned to look for his brother once more, a slight whine in his throat at the familiar, comforting presence no longer by his side, and the embarrassment of falling obviously wasn't helping the situation. Mutt's light, instinctively charming tone rang out, "Hound! Hound come on, we've got things to do." The little pup was obviously talking about following their mother, though he left out that little bit of information in case one of the other wolves around them were listening. Mutt may have been a suck up, and a bit air-headed occasionally, but he had common sense enough not to draw attention when attention wasn't wanted. So, the little dark pup waited on his brother, paws bouncing eagerly, ready to get the day started, but refusing to do anything until Hound came along as well.

Time Skip: 2 Months
Why had they moved here again? It was cold, the air was thin, he wasn't cut out for this bull. Now he was stuck on a god forbidden mountain with a bunch of cannibalistic savages and far too many pups. His only form of entertainment had run off from the circus not long ago. She was acting horrendously strange a couple of months ago, and now she'd run off entirely. Why he had even bothered trying to half-assedly court the female? He couldn't lie, it was strange without Xalie's presence. He had become quite fond of tormenting his fellow maned wolf. He was just learning how to push her buttons with ease when she up and vanished. He wouldn't admit it, but he almost missed her...? Was she doing okay?
His morning thoughts were interrupted by possibly the most annoying sound on the entire planet. Ky's hellish screeching so early in the morning, every morning, was just another reason that Quentin himself wanted to slip away from the band of wolves he currently leeched from. That wasn't to say that he didn't wake up and poke his head out every damn time. With narrowed eyes and sonar ears clearly showing his displeasure, the alien emerged from his den. The air was bitterly frigid, and his fur was made for much warmer temperatures. Gritting his teeth, he willed his eyes closed as his form stood stiffly in the light breeze.
He might have been mistaken when he labelled Ky as the most annoying sound. With his eyes closed he couldn't see her approaching, so when she screeched at him it made him cringe. "Good morning, Quentin!" Psyche called out, her voice already getting on the male's nerves. In only a few seconds his naturally bitchy state morphed into fluid motion and he swept his frame towards the albino. He was a foot taller than the petite pest, making it easier than usual to maneuver himself around her. Peering down towards her, Quentin lowered his head so that it hovered a hairsbreadth away from her ear. "It would have been much better if someone..." he let his words trail off, suggestively swinging his tail over to her's, "...hadn't decided that they'd be thirsty so early in the morning and come greet me like we were old chums." Snapping his jaws, Quentin detached himself from Psyche's side. It was too damn early for this. With a morning scowl back on his face, Quentin ignored the albino near him. Instead, he let his unwilling focus lay on the busy forms of the many other wolves. Miyako and her brats, the Delta and the nanny sneaking away with permission from the head honcho, and Ky likely just about ready to chop off his own leg if Koga needed a snack. What a mess.

Lotus "Things are not always what they seem."
With some reluctance, Rome pushed herself up to a seating position. Lotus had noticed how her sister had raised her eyebrows at her, but didn't bother to think much about it. Although she was up, the sleepiness of the morning still lingered. There was this longing to flop to the ground, and fall into a deep slumber again. As much as she wanted to do so, Lotus knew that she shouldn't - bad things were going to happen. She didn't want their mother to worry about them, given the state of weariness, and panic the adult wolf was in. "Good morning little ones, I'm sure you must be thirsty this morning," Along with the familiar voice, came a she-wolf who stopped just before the den. Lotus gazed up at the towering figure, pinkish eyes instantly recognising the wolf covered in copper hues. Their Alphess, or rather their Mistress, had came to check on them. Her kind words of concern to their mother didn't sound genuine at all. Lotus scrunched her face up in a tiny frown, which quickly disappeared when she thought about how much trouble she could get herself in for that. In front of Lotus and all her siblings, their Alphess acted caring, sweet and all - but Lotus doubted if that was her true nature. It seemed, to the young one that, there was more to just that. Well, she hadn't really caught their Alphess being mean to their mother or anything yet, but there was just something forced about her kindness. Perhaps her brothers and sisters were still fooled by that. A little caught up with her thoughts, Lotus didn't realise that the sleek wolf had left their side. Blinking, Lotus stared at the Eastern Timber's receding back. Someday, she would discover the truth about her. “Let’s g-o.”Their mother's words brought Lotus' attention back to her. Lotus padded along, following in their mother's paw steps. As usual, their mother lowered her body, trying to keep a low profile in the commons. Lotus glanced around, to see that a few wolves were also up and about. Ky, that monster- just loitering there, Varuna - also just there, Psyche talking to Quentin, Cayden and Maleah - probably discussing something important, their Alphess heading out of the commons. All of them just went about with their own businesses, paying no attention to their meek mother - which was a good thing. Lotus knew her mother had plentiful, and it was great to finally see her getting the peace she needed - even if it was just for awhile. "Stay aw-a-ay from Quen-en-tin. He is not like u-us. Will hu-ur-urt you. Follow clo-se and all—will—be—well.” As if right on cue, Lotus thought she saw the maned male approaching them, a menacing snarl escaping his maw. What is he going to do, now? Hurt us? With an anguished whine, Lotus quickened her pace. She must have missed the loose stone on the ground, and tripped over it, sending herself tumbling over. Pain erupted from her back. Ears flattened, Lotus gazed up to check to see if Quentin was there. Instead, she found herself staring at nothing but air. Stunned and befuddled, Lotus shot a glance back at where Quentin and Psyche was. They were still there. What was that 'Quentin' she saw then? Lotus swivelled her head back to see if her siblings were as confused as she was. "Quen-Quentin was right here, right?" she checked with them. Lotus willed her legs to move faster, to catch up with their mother. The soft thuds of her mother's paw steps finally came to a stop. “Stan—ley.Would yo-ou like to go — fishing with me?We’ll be wait-ing by-y the ba-anks. A-ll of us." Their mother called out, in her hoarse voice, to the male. Still a little shaken by what had just happened, Lotus didn't understand what was going on. What did their mother meant by 'fishing'?"“See yo-u there."Then, she addressed Lotus and her siblings:“Come on no-ow. Let’s mo-ove." As much as Lotus didn't understand anything, she still obediently followed their mother. Exit to: Mountain River @miyako @rome Zayn @tayla Hound Apprentice Mutt @myles @stanley

Rouge eyes laid on Tayla for an extended amount of time, the small smile she had given him for saying her name (as best he could) forming his personality for the moment. Happy! Tayla was happy, so he was happy! Yes, that's what he decided on! His big brother made his way over to the decidedly happy puppy and gave him a smidgen of affection. Humming a little sing-song in response, Myles let Zayn make his way back to Tayla. "Good morning little ones, I'm sure you must be thirsty this morning," the familiar voice of Mistress rang through the den. Myles' little tail began to wag with joy! Mistress was always so nice and helpful and nice. Why his mother seemed to get all in a huff whenever she came over was far beyond him. "And how is the mother doing today? Good, I'm glad, please let Cayden and Maleah know if you need anything at all today, we don't want you to grow weak after such a large birth, they need their mother nice and strong after all." Cayden and Maleah! He had heard those names before! His mother didn't seem to like Cayden all that much but Maleah seemed very nice. Cayden was probably super nice too; his mom didn't have the best judgements about the wolves around her. "Let's g-o," Miyako spoke sharply, her frame already creeping out of the den. Flicking his eyes over to Tayla, just to make sure that she was going too, Myles eagerly clambered out of the den. Popping out of the cramped space with gusto, he scanned the commons. There sure were a lot of wolves! And one, not quite the rest of them, that both he and his mother seemed to be looking. "Stay aw-a-ay from Quen-en-tin. He is not like u-us. Will hu-ur-urt you. Follow clo-se and all—will—be—well.” his mother's soft tones warning. "Gwen-en-din," the young male rolled off his tongue just as his mother had. He was getting better! Soon he would be throwing names everywhere with ease! But he shouldn't have a problem staying away from the spindly male, he was all the way across the commons. When his littlest sister asked the odd question, he looked at her a little bit confused. "Noooooo? Thilly," he giggled towards her while their mother asked Stanely about their adventure. "Th-dan-lee" Myles practiced again. Any name he got he wanted to get absolutely perfect! "Come on no-ow. Let's mo-ove," his mother's voice once again pulled him away. Practically bunny hopping after her, the still jovial pup had already forgotten where they were going. But it was going to be fun! Unless Tayla didn't want him to have fun then he wouldn't. There was only so much he could do to learn about what to do in the big wide world! @miyako @stanley @tayla Zayn Hound Apprentice Mutt Lotus @rome

TIME SKIP: 2 MONTHs Many days had passed since Mortiul and Ignasia moved out of their territories. Stan was gaining more conscience, subconciouslly turning off the automatic pilot that Vivaldi had activated. Knowing very well that he had been deceived and actually giving enough of a damn to do something about it, the mexican grey just needed time, and tons of luck. Both things that right now, his life lacked. It didn't take the male much to get accustomed to the place. Of course, the territory was basically a ruin, with little to no plants living in it and most prey being the small animals who managed to hide from the blazing flames. Hell, not even the trees were standing anymore. But, after everything, Stan just played along. It was just his nature now, follow through with whatever was given to him. There was this little spot of life he liked though, a bush that was left almost untounched by the raging fire that had gone for over a week. On the afternoons, mornings or any time he'd be left alone, Stan sits down and relaxes, for however long that lasts. Like right now. The lycan was laying down on the grass, disconnected from reality, making an effort not to fall asleep just to enjoy the brief moment. But of course, something came up. A female voice which he recognized inmediatly. Miyako, probably his only friend in the group, approached from behind, alongside her own litter. “Stan—ley.Would yo-ou like to go — fishing with me? We’ll be wait-ing by-y the ba-anks. A-ll of us." she asked, on her ever-so-stuttering tone. Stanley nodded, not thinking it that much, looking at the group of pups, one of them even attempting to pronounce his name. “See yo-u there." was the only response the female gave him, walking away followed by the little ones. The image managed to put a smile on the brown male, as he laid down on his bush again. Just five more minutes.
Once those minutes passed, the male managed the strenght to get up, and followed the path he had seen his friend take.

PUP ZAYN
OF
IGNASIA
Zayn practically growled, his baby vocal chords came out in smaller high pitched noises as his mother attempted to drag him closer. He let her with his vocal protests while a female stopped in. He remember his mother calling her 'mistress'. Was that her name?
Baby blue eyes held a faint light to them as he looked her up and down before she departed once again. Her eyes creeped him out. Too much white there. Flicking another tail behind him he looked to his mother who was struggling to gather all the pups.
"Tayla, Myles," he quipped at them, "Lets go see what this... fishing spot is all about." His own mind told him to be weary but he wasn't sure what of. He could either ignore this new paranoia blossoming in the back of his mind or follow with it and let it rule him today. For now he was fighting it and trusting in his mother.

Cayden looked to Maleah, white and mint eyes softly resting on her. He wasn’t barking orders at her, much like other superiors did. He considered her much more superior to him. He didn’t want to overstep any boundaries with her, and definitely didn’t want to frighten her. From what she had been, she was much more confident, although still holding onto the shy and timid demeanor she had possessed since he had first laid eyes on her. Her head tilted ever so slightly, not making eye contact with him. He wanted her to, he wished for the stunning neon green eyes of hers to lock with his mismatched pair. To be able to show her that he wasn’t a monster was his goal, and he would hopefully succeed in reaching that goal. For right now however, he would wait patiently. There was no need to force the female to look at him if she didn’t want to. But she approved of his plan. He took in the sentence carefully, listening to what she said before he reacted. He took his time, pondering how exactly he was going to do it. With his massive size it would almost be too easy to pin her down and have her underneath him. Making his move, he had himself on top of her, pinning her down. He was being a little more gentle than most would be in an actual fight, but this was simple practice. She needed to know how to get out from under him without getting herself injured. Tagged: Maleah

cicatricum refertam pulchritudo “ It just all happened so quickly. One second she was standing and the next she was tossed into the snow. It didn’t hurt much, just the shock of her sudden displacement knocked the wind of her. As her back hit the ground, she was stuck looking straight up at the Delta. Tree trunks slammed down on either side of her head, trapping her in the snow. Gasping, the nanny tried to refocus herself on the exercise. None of it was real. Everything was under control. Cayden was so tall that his belly fur didn’t brush Maleah’s exposed underbelly. She would have to extend a paw upwards to try and catch wisps of it. Mint and sugar locked with jade, but Maleah’s mind was far from in the moment.
The past came crashing back. No longer was she in the snow, protected by the light of Adjetni and the markings of Koga. No. She was defenceless. Ghosts of her past replaced the familiar scent of ash. Cayden wasn’t himself anymore. A stranger stood above her. Malicious and sadistic as always, it wouldn’t be long before her blood was spilled again. That’s the way it always went, wasn’t it?
Unfocused, her eyes darted everywhere. Nothing was familiar. Where was she? As her panic rose she began to hyperventilate, her breaths barely leaving her body before she brought them right back in. She was trapped, in the midst of getting attacked even! What did she do before? Tears spilled freely from Maleah’s eyes as desperately she clawed at some hidden memory of how to escape. For so long she had relied on Koga, Marusya, and Adjetni to protect her. Left on her own it was obvious just how helpless she truly was.
Gasping, Maleah’s voice barely made a sound as she pleaded, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, whatever it was it won’t happen again I promise. Please, please just... don’t hurt me anymore.” A choked sob wracked through her system. All of her once abandoned postures were welcomed readily back in a flash. Pinned ears, her tail shoved so tightly between her haunches that it covered the underbelly of the grounded she-wolf - it was almost like Beelzebub was towering over her all over again. No. Worse. Beelzebub knew about the wrath that Koga would rain upon him if he harmed her. The anonymous brute right now didn’t know. How could he? With all her scars she must look like such easy picking. Someone who didn’t put up a fight before and who wouldn’t put up a fight now. So desperately she wanted to close her eyes, to just let that darkness be the last thing she saw rather than the jaws of the beast attacking her. They wouldn’t. Neon green eyes glassy with tears remained gaping open. None of the images before her were sinking in. It was Cayden, it was Ignasia, it was home and safety and someone trustworthy, but she couldn’t see it. In a blind panic, her back paws swung upwards, short limbs barely even pushing against skin. Instantly regretting that decision, she curled herself inwards, sobs still shaking her body as she did so. Now she would be hurt more for fighting back. Now she had signed her life away. Trembling, Maleah tried to remain still as finally, her eyes closed and she accepted her fate.

Cayden had not expected her to do anything but maybe wriggle underneath him to get out. It would be expected since that was quite possibly the only way she would get out from underneath him. With how large Cayden was, his chest was barely in reach of dull claws, and thus it would be hard for her to push him away or claw at his chest enough to get him to go away, or at least back off enough for her to roll away from him. But the reaction that he got from her was something he had never seen in her before. She seemed to grow unfocused on him, and instead was focused on something unknown. She started breathing heavily, reaching the point of hyperventilation quickly. His bi-colored eyes were unsure what to do. Everything was happening rather quickly. She started sobbing, asking for him not to hurt her. He looked at her, eyes wide with surprise. He hadn’t expected this reaction from her. She had asked about defense training, but it seemed that having her pinned down had triggered some sort of memory. Before Koga and Marusya had saved her, he wasn’t sure where Maleah had come from. But what he knew was that she was scared for her life right now. Her paws darted upward. They made contact with his chest, but they hardly hurt. He looked towards her, seeing that she was cowering in fear underneath him. Her position made him worry about her. If she was going to react like that to defense training, would he be able to train her? He took himself gently off of her, moving to her side. He rested his muzzle across her neck, bringing his large body to curl around her. “I would never hurt you,” He whispered to her, trying to get her to come back from the terror that ran through her. “You’re safe, you’re home,” He said, looking towards her face, wanting to see her neon green eyes open and show that she was no longer terrified. His large body easily curled around her, making it to where she was mostly enveloped in his white fur. There were no other wolves around to see what they were doing, and it was a good thing. He knew that Koga’s children were unforgiving, particularly to those that showed weakness. He didn’t need anyone else seeing Maleah like this. She was much too vulnerable to have anyone else see her and potentially try and take advantage of that. He knew that Koga would never let that happen, but he couldn’t help but worry. Cayden would lift his muzzle, waiting for the she-wolf to patiently collect herself. He would sit there silently, giving the she-wolf a little bit of room so that he was not smothering her. He wanted to keep himself wrapped around her entirely, just wanting to be there and keep her close. The she-wolf however, would object profusely to the idea, and therefore he wouldn’t push his luck too much. Sweeping his white tail behind him, he watched, patiently, wanting her to come back to him and be her normal self once again. He knew that she would apologize, but he would simply brush those aside. She had reacted plausibly, especially with all the unknown trauma that she carried with her. Maleah

cicatricum refertam pulchritudo “ She just wanted it to end. Let the blows rain down until she no longer had to remain conscious to feel them. Through shuddering breaths, she didn't dare to crack open neon eyes. If she was going to die, she didn't want to witness it. However, flattened ears picked up the muffled sounds of paws moving close to her head in the snow. Were there more now? They were just going to tear her to pieces! However, a heavy weight on her neck made her shivering stop. Strangulation, that was how she was going out. It had to be.But the weight didn't push further into her neck. The warmth of a body wrapping around her was even odder. The strange turn of events from the plotline in her mind had been thrown for a loop. Maybe it wasn't all as it seemed? Deep rumblings on her neck made her suck in a breath. Trying to bring her brain back into a space where she could control it, the fragile Iberian struggled to remember what that meant. It was rumblings, there was definitely something vocal on her neck. Words. That's what that meant. Sucking in another deep breath, Maleah scrambled to remember the words she had heard through folded ears. "I would never hurt you," that's what they were. I would never hurt you. Who had said it? It sounded familiar. Her senses slowly returned to her, the overwhelming scent of Cayden swaddling the she-wolf. It wasn't absent like when they had first met. It smelled like home, like ash. It was soothing, to say the least. "You're safe, you're home," he murmured again, the she-wolf's heart rate already trying to steady itself from its terror. Barely, she breathed out, "I'm safe, I'm home." Under her breath she clung to those words, repeating them until she could finally breathe. Ancient words of the Prophet resurfaced in her memories. She was protected by her marks in the eyes of Adjenti and Koga, there was no need to cower. Not anymore. Finally relaxed enough to open tear encrusted eyes, her gaze instantly met with Cayden's. At last, three eye colours lingered on one another for longer than a second. Maleah's breath caught in her throat for a second. She had never truly realized how... beautiful his eyes could be. How they weren't annoyed at her. How they searched into hers just as she searched his. Trying to draw in breaths without letting any new tears, she broke the eye contact to trail her gaze up his own marks. Those weren't inflicted by Koga, they were truly wound earned in battle. The one that cut his face most snaked its way up snout and siphoned off into thick fur. Tearing her gaze away, Maleah's much calmer brain suddenly realized their proximity.Rolling onto her front, Maleah scooted out from underneath Cayden's blanket of comfort and warmth. Trying to dry her tears with the back of her paw, she sat in embarrassed silence for a few seconds. Her eyes were plastered to the imprint on the ground that her back had left. She hated it. Why had she been so weak? She knew she was stronger than that. It was a disgrace to Adjetni, Marusya, and Koga that she had just broken down. What had she even done to fight back? Nothing. Just laid there and cried like some pitiful rogue that Ignasia would have no problem eating. She was better than that. She had to be."I'm sorry, I just..." she rasped, her voice hoarse from trying to contain her earlier sobs, "I need you to do that again. I can't cower anymore. Please, Cayden, I need to prove this to myself." Quietly she turned her gaze back towards the Delta. Silently, she was angry. Angry at herself, angry at those who had traumatized her, angry that they still had so much power over her years later. She had the barest of plans in the back of her mind, and this time she wasn't going to let them render her useless. It felt strange to even ask him to trap her again, but for the first time, she was going to try and defeat her demons.

Adjetni had given and taken away with little discretion throughout the course of their journey. Ignasia’s blessings had been extraordinary, the largest their lord had ever elected to bestow: a healthy litter of seven, power equal to that of their allies and a territory forever touched by his sanctioned holiness. Such lands were perfect, sacred places for prayer and worship, but as he prayed these past months, he couldn’t help but feel he’d a prophecy, some carefully sanctioned instructions to fulfill according to the gospel. Why else would he have blessed his people, were it not for the purpose of empowering them to further spread his gospel? Wisps of words echoed within his ears, the pulses of prophecy, but he hadn’t yet obtained anything truly, undeniably tangible. Such were Ignasia’s troubles. It’d been eons since they’d sacrificed, and even as Koga watched and partook, their prayers tasted stale in his mouth. Something was stagnating within their ranks, something foul, cold and complacent that had killed his first followers. What they needed was revival, something to show Adjetni they still practiced and preached as passionately as ever, lest they feel his justified holy wrath. Yes, reform was well in order. Only a single question remained on the matter: how exactly to go about such delicate matters? They had already hesitated too long, and had faced recourse for their transgressions. Vivaldi, Adramalach’s “mate,” had been unfortunately afflicted with several deaths within their first litter, with only two of their young surviving. Xalie, their shaman, grew sensitive to such displays of death, fleeing after she’d cleared the last of their litter to — do god knows what. Despite the dispersal of several capable search parties, she’d effectively severed herself lost, with no trace of her odd species save for Quentin, the last and seemingly only male of his kind. It was unfortunate, inconvenient, truthfully, but life here could easily continue without a healer. To lose a shaman, on the other hand, was disastrous. Who else would lead Ignasia in their incantations, their prayers? Xalie simply had to be replaced, and swiftly, but finding one as obviously anointed as her would pose a significant challenge. Still, it had to be done. They’d already his newest litter to fulfill the role if need be, but any bastard children surely wouldn’t be first pick. No, the new shaman should be brought in from the outside, or born of a blessed pairing. None of these absurdities; unthinkably challenged even from the start. Perhaps they’d prove themselves with time. Such matters led him to his current position, comfortably watching Cayden and Maleah from the mouth of his den. Marusya and him were entirely certain that their partnership was pre-destined, a testament to Adjetni’s grand faith. They had even envisioned their children, a lovely future litter equal parts him and her. The only issue was Maleah. The small, timid she-wolf was still a tad hesitant around Cayden, although he was nothing but a perfect gentleman. Koga had advised him in private on the best way to win her heart, the sort of sweet, gentle speech that’d charm her. Just now Maleah approached him, timidly requesting to be taught defense tactics by Cayden. Of course he approved! As the two sauntered off to begin practicing, he made a mental note to pull Cayden aside for a private conversation, provide an extra tip or two to quicken up their not-quite-yet romance. It was only for Maleah’s own good anyways. His litter had outgrown her, much to her dismay, and Tiny was presently training in Mortiul. She’d no one anymore, nothing to nurture and cherish, and it saddened her. A mate and litter of her own would suit her needs quite nicely, the family he knew she wanted. As he summoned the willpower to finally up and leave his den, he considered what exactly Ignasia was in need of. The reform he desired was all fine and dandy, bur useless if he couldn’t actually find a way to spark internal change. Fortunately, he’d already an idea at hand, needing only his most devoted, favorite disciple Ky to help bring it to life. Change was best forged in youth, and what better way to ensure reform than with his own children? A re-devotion, re-commitment to Adjetni’s principles would ensure their views were lying within the correct place. “Morning Ky,” Koga began, tantalizingly brushing against the larger male’s shoulders. “I hope you’ve been paying attention lately. I’ve a certain game I would like to play with my children, and I think you’ll help fulfill one of the roles quite nicely. Interested?” Of course he would be. The question was mere courtesy. “I’ll be testing their faith today,” he remarked, whisking his tail towards where they’d doubtlessly remained sleeping. “I’d like you to assist as the voice of Adjetni, so-to-speak, punishing them whenever they fail to recount his word. No scarring, nothing permanent, but painful,” he lifted his oaken head, garnet eyes glowing softly. “ Most definitely.” “Varuna, Imset, Anubis, rise!” Koga barked, lowering his dappled haunches as he awaited his children’s arrival. “Good morning. I do hope you all woke up feeling especially clear-minded. You’re about to be tested, the lot of you. Nothing needlessly complicated of course. If you’ve been paying attention to your mother and I, it’ll be very simple. Each of you will be given your own question, ten beats to answer. Those who fail to comply,” Koga gestured to Ky, striking his paw against ice. “Will be given the appropriate punishment. Ready? Let’s begin. Imset,” he commanded. “You first. What physical form does Adjetni appear to us in? Anubis, recite Adjetni’s blessing — the real version. Varuna, describe the ritual that determines the strength of your faith. Promptly.” Beta Ky Apprentice Imset Apprentice Anubis Apprentice Varuna Delta Cayden Maleah Infidel QuentinOOC: The answers to these questions can be found on the Google Doc of References for the religion, but I'd prefer if at least one pup got their question wrong. Ruby eyes shifted as a figure came to her side. Of course it was none other than her sister—who else would it have been? Imset followed her twin's harsh gaze to eventually point her piercing optics in the direction of Ky. A snarl pressed at her lips. “Ya know, ya could be quiet,” Anubis echoed the words she thought to herself every morning, a snicker falling from her mouth at the comment. "Think before you act, Ky. One day that howling of yours will get you killed," she warned with an unnerving amount of calmness, having zero care about the dangers of making such remarks to a wolf of Ky's status, age and strength. Imset had received Adjetni's blessing upon her very conception, she had been born by his will and she would be taken out of this world by his will, and she knew that she had no real reason to fear the brute that she had grown to hate so dearly, Adjetni would never let her go under the paw of such a lowly brute. Imset's death was destined to be glorious, and she would settle for nothing less. The attention that Ky had found from the twins was instantly shattered as another, far more interesting figure appeared from the depths of his den. Imset's breath hitched in her throat as she watched her father stride into the Commons, finally their day would begin. “Varuna, Imset, Anubis, rise!” At the drop of his words, the youngling was on her feet, her head raised high with pride as she approached her father. She sought approval from the male, yet hated the fact that she followed his every command as perfectly as she could. Imset craved the day when she and Anubis would take his place, but for now, she would have to stand attentive and ready to act upon what he said. Those who fail to comply, will be given the appropriate punishment.” Imset glared at her father's pet, not too please by the idea of the bastard being given permission to punish her. The last thing she needed was to be humiliated with a beating from Ky. But she had no real reason to worry, she was a faithful follower of her beloved God, she had learnt all she could in order to please him, and her parents. "Ready? Let’s begin. Imset, you first. What physical form does Adjetni appear to us in? Anubis, recite Adjetni’s blessing — the real version. Varuna, describe the ritual that determines the strength of your faith. Promptly.” Imset wasted no time in taking a step forward, a smug smirk tugging the corner of her lips as the answer to her father's quiz wasted no time in springing from the tip of her tongue. "Our beloved Adjetni's physical form is one to be feared, as he appears to us as a dark wolf, his body covered in curling cracks of burning lava and flame. Our Lord breathes his purifying fire upon us from his mouth, his head splitting into a duo if angered. He is truely magnificent." Imset had closed her eyes as she began describing the same figure that had begun appearing in her dreams a couple months ago, his figure burning against the darkness of her eyelids as if he were standing in front of her. But when she opened her eyes, all she saw was her father looking down at her. She did not look at him with disappointment upon her delusion being shattered, but rather, pride burned brightly in the heart of her carnelian eyes. Imset's bond with Adjetni was growing more and more every day. She could see him lurking in the ash that stained the disturbed snow, she could feel him looming over her shoulder at times, she could even hear him whispering his blessings to her as she fell asleep at night. Imset was his perfect little vessel, and as she stepped back into line with her siblings, her heart thundered in her chest as she sent a silent praise to her mighty Lord.
