R A I S A Guardian of Sorelus
Cecil has always been such a gentle soul, a pleasure to have in the pack. When Grizelda came into the pack, her heart had been happy enough to see the old man finding a companion for the rest of his life. Although they could never have pups, she was more than willing to supplement that with the pups that she had produced and was going to. The little beings in her belly seemed to know that she was thinking of them as they kicked, causing her to grumble as she licked at her chest fur. Her belly could burst if they did that, or at least, she thought so. It was unpleasant, she wanted them out, but it seemed that they were taking their sweet time getting ready to introduce themselves into the world. A smile gently came to her face as she watched Grizelda and Cecil interact with Quinn and Sirius. The two boys had a great family in Sorelus, and she couldn’t be happier. It had only been months before that they were located in rogue lands, and she was unaware that her life would take this route. Having a family that she could support, that supported her, and that her boys could grow up with positive role models. As Cecil went back into his den, she was hoping that something would be useful. She would take anything, no matter how nasty it was. He brought out a piece of bark and instructed her on what to do with it. She was supposed to chew it and then swallow. Taking it gently from the salutary, she whispered a ‘thank you’ before starting to chew into it. The taste was unfavorable, but it was something to say the least. Swallowing hesitantly, she made sure that she finished it off before she finally breathed out. Coughing a bit, she sat down, her belly bulging as she did so. Looking around, rose eyes scanned the almost emptying commons. Besides her, the salutary, his mate and the pups, there was only one other wolf that she could currently see. Karini.
The she-wolf had become rather distant from the pack, Raisa had hardly seen her around due to her being in her den most of the time, but when she was out and about and enjoying the freedom of not being pregnant, which was far too short, Raisa had noticed the she-wolf’s behavior changing. There was sadness emitting from the she-wolf that was mulling about the commons, having not taken to the hunting grounds, or to where the mountain lions were, as Rowan had mentioned. The white lupine’s heart swelled with sadness seeing her this way. She considered all the yearlings to be hers, to be one of her children. She couldn’t help the motherly nature she possessed, and although some were not welcome to it, she felt responsible for taking on the position of a mother that they had never had. Seeing her like this, pulled Raisa towards her. Looking to Grizelda and Cecil, she then brought her attention to her pups. “Stay close to Cecil, Grizelda or myself. Don’t go wandering too far,” She spoke before rising, heading over to the black she-wolf that was now by the little shore near the commons. Coming to lay down next to her, rose eyes watched worriedly. “It's quite beautiful here in the spring,” She spoke, looking to Karini. “Are you doing alright?” She asked, looking towards the she-wolf as she inquired. “I’m always here to speak with, and you know that,” She spoke softly. “But if you aren’t willing to talk, I’m here to simply sit in silence with you if you need that as well,” She delicately placed the words together. She had always been one to help others, but she was never one to force it on them.
With the way Karini was acting, she would either accept the silence, possibly talk to Raisa, or simply just move away. The pregnant lupine hoped that out of all the wolves, Karini would not push herself away from her. She hoped that her guidance during their early time together would be enough to show that she was willing to be there for the she-wolf, but with Raisa absent from most pack happenings, she would completely understand if the she-wolf was not willing to accept her caring advances. She would help her however she needed, or however Raisa was able to.

Sirius had been nestled close to his brother and his mother, cuddled closely into the warm nook of her forelegs as white eyes scanned over the common grounds. Black, cream and brown hues melded with the snowy white pelt of Raisa as she and his father conversed about the day. Her belly was big, so big he thought she could fit 5 of him in there! When she mentioned Grandpa Cecil, the little pups ears perked, but that was the only indication of willingness to get up. When Raisa's cold nose nudged against his backside, he rose to his paws and stood at the threshold of the den, looking to the happenings of the commons and looking at how far Cecil's den was. It was overwhelming. Sirius had never been one for conversation and had rathered stay on the sidelines and watch as things unfolded, but it seemed he had no choice in the matter as Quinn almost immediately left his side and made his merry way to the Salutary's den. A slight look of dismay passed over the pups features before he weighed the pros and cons of leaving the warm, comfortable den and watched his mother waddle her way there as well. "Quinn!" He whined as he walked beside his mama, ready to catch her if she needed him, her belly sure seemed heavy and it was hard for her to make her way to Cecil even though he wasn't super duper far! "Don't worry Mama, I'll help you." He muttered, taking slow steps with her and matching her pace. Even though he wasn't helping much at all, too small to be a support, the little boy puffed out his chest anyway as he made sure his mama didn't stumble.
As soon as they made it to Cecil, he had mentioned the pups, lowering himself to eye level and was speaking about how big they had grown. Sirius felt heat rush to his cheeks as he was brought to the center of attention along with his brother. The spotlight was never something he reveled in, nor had he ever wanted it. It made him feel self conscious and even though it was often words of encouragement or praise, it never brought him comfort. Quinn seemed to enjoy it though, he always was the more outgoing one, roping Sirius into his antics and driving Raisa mad with their little disappearing acts. But Sirius had to make sure his brother didn't get hurt, so he was always the unwilling passenger. Finally, mama spoke up, mentioning her uncomfiness, Sirius always noticed when mama was in pain, the weight she was baring being too much for her some days. Especially since he thinks she should have had his siblings by now. Frustration mounted in his belly, those silly pups were taking too long and it seemed they didn't want to come out and meet himself or his brother and he took it as a personal issue. He would make sure they heard about it when they made their arrival, of that much he was sure. Quinn made his way into the Salutary's den and now that Sirius was sure his mama was in good paws, he followed tentatively behind the chestnut colored pup in front of him, making sure not to be in the way of Cecil as he brought out herbs for Raisa. It smelled funny in here, and the herbs that lined the walls of the den sat waiting to be used by the salt and peppered male. He watched as Cecil grabbed the bark from his stores, and scrunched his nose at the thought of chewing on the bark of a tree. That had to be horrible and he did not envy his mother one bit. "Quinn, don't touch anything. Grandpa Cecil wouldn't like it." He chided his brother, almost feeling his want to mess with and examine every herb in the den. At this point, other wolves probably thought he could read his brother's mind, but he was pretty predictable. Given the opportunity, he stuck his little black nose into anything he found curious and often wandered from the den to go on an adventure that Sirius would ultimately have to follow him on to make sure he didn't get swept up by a heavy current in the stream, or get attacked by a fox that he would probably stumble upon.
Snow colored eyes fell onto the group outside of the den as Grizelda spoke to him, asking about his sibling and a puppish sneer found his maw. "They obviously don't want to meet me so they can take their time." he spoke, though deep down, he was excited to see his new siblings and how they looked. He even hoped maybe one or two would have the same personality as him. Being the mature sibling sure was tiring. @grizelda Salutary Cecil Guardian Raisa Pup Quinn

The small brown pup continued his trek around the large medicine den, all the various stinky herbs along with other plant substances both disgusted him and fascinated him, he wondered how long it had taken Cecil to remember them all and know what to do with them, pup like curiosity letting his mind wander to what would happen should he eat this or chew on that. As if on queue he heard his brothers cautious tone from behind him as he followed him, his watchful guardian ensuring he never got into too much trouble. "Quinn, don't touch anything. Grandpa Cecil wouldn't like it." The brown pup stopped in his tracks before turning a blue eyed gaze to his brother, he wouldn't want to upset grandpa, it was true. "I know...But everything is just so weird!"he exclaimed quietly, happy the salt and pepper wolf was more than busy with their mother, it was easier to go exploring when he wasn't being watched like a hawk. When his brothers attention was simultaneously taken by a fellow elder, Cecil's new mate Grizelda, Quinn padded over to more herbs, not very aware of his surroundings he walked straight into a bundle of Burdock Root, the soft spikey part of the bulb tickling his nose before Quinn gave a loud sneeze in response to the ticking sensation, backing away with a soft whine, he lowered his head and ran his paw over the bottom half of his head, down his muzzle and over his nose, blue eyes looking up to see it was only a Burdock root, his tail wagging gently out of relief that he was not in any actual danger, maybe he should stop messing around in the medicine den. He padded away from the herbs as fast as he could, joining his brother at his side as he talked to Grizelda about how late their siblings were. Quinn wondered if they would ever be born, looking over at his mother with a sad whine, turning his attention back to Grizelda, he knew Raisa was in good hands with Cecil tending to her, he just hoped his mother would be alright. "Grizelda, can you tell us a story? You were a Rogue before, right?"he asked curiously, looking up at the elder, how the white hairs spread on her face, evidence of aging, evidence of wisdom. Elders always had good stories.

Karini stared emptily out across the small pond that rested in the middle of the commons, silver and gray eyes not even a single blink to assist in jolting her from the thoughts that had been plaguing her for so long now. Bright, orange flames danced around in her mind, tall trees succumbing to the hungry flames that engulfed anything that it could come near including things that were living, breathing entities, the screams of her parents echoed in her mind accompanied by the loud, pained yelps of her siblings as they all ran from the fire, but after everything had happened Karini had been the only one left, no trace of her family anywhere to be found. The only thing left in the burnt up forest were just the mounds of gray ash that was the same color as her charcoal colored pelt. The gray yearling had been suffering because of that night ever since, reliving it almost daily, suffering the pain when she should been long over it. The noise of grass being lightly crunched underneath a heavy body and a soft voice pulled her out of her thoughts and she lifted her head to look slowly towards Raisa as she spoke, “It's quite beautiful here in the spring,” Raisa's pale pink eyes met with her own gray and silver eyes before continuing “Are you doing alright?” Karini slowly pushed herself up intending to move away, she had no intentions of hurting the sweet Raisa’s feelings, but she also didn’t want to drag the she-wolf down into the depressing hole that was Karini's thoughts. Though before she could walk away Raisa continued hurriedly, “I’m always here to speak with, and you know that,” the she-wolf spoke softly. “But if you aren’t willing to talk, I’m here to simply sit in silence with you if you need that as well.” Leaving now would be more hurtful to the other she-wolf than Karini could bare to dish out, of that Karini was now sure, so the charcoal yearling instead tucked her legs underneath her and sat on her haunches head drooping as she once more shifted her silver eyes to look at the beautiful pond that sat in the middle of the Sorelus common grounds. For the first few minutes Karini just sat there with Raisa, while the other she-wolf laid patiently beside her, at first the time that was passing in complete silence was awkward, unnerving, Karini felt the overwhelming need to fill the silence with something, but the suffering female wasn’t sure what to say, she never had been a talkative wolf, that much was certain. It took a little while longer for the charcoal female to finally manage the courage to speak up to Raisa, “I’ve been thinking of stepping down from being a scout, although I could just leave and save everyone the awkwardness, it’s not like I’ll survive much longer in the pack anyway with how I’ve been acting.” Karini’s silver eyes moved from the pond back to Raisa, the silver and gray orbs looked as empty as Karini felt, no emotion held there, not even sadness anymore, just a desolate heart, with an even more desolate stomach. The charcoal fur, that had been thinning as the spring rolled into the territory, didn’t shine like it should have, instead it was dull and lifeless, just as she had been for the past couple months. How anyone could help the poor she-wolf was a mystery to Karini, she just hoped that Raisa would agree with what she had been pondering and would make things so much easier in the long run as well. The elder wasn't surprised to see a tiny snarl come up onto Sirius' face. "They obviously don't want to meet me so they can take their time," his distaste obvious for his siblings. Grizelda wasn't worried too much though. She had seen many a second litter born where at least one sibling in the first litter wasn't all that excited for the new arrivals. However, after the birth there was never any qualms. Love was love, and between new siblings it grew quickly. "Maybe," the elder began in her token slow voice, "they want to make sure that they make the best first impression! You don't want to rush perfection."Her attention was then stolen by Quinn. The more boisterous of the two boys requested a story in the absence of his mother's expert story telling ability. With a toothy smile - worn-down ivories on full display - Grizelda adjusted her position so that she was sitting comfortably. Nine years of life had lead her to have many interesting stories to tell. She could tell the one with the bear, or maybe the one of her first hunt? Settling onto a storyline, the elder began again, "One day, nearly six years ago, I was the Beta female of my old pack. It was spring time, and all of the deer, elk, and even bison were having babies. Now, bison are animals that you can hardly fathom without seeing one. They're as big as two bears, have massive blocky heads, and a smell that is so distinct that you can identify such a beast from a good distance. My old pack and I needed to hunt, as there were new pups at our commons too. We were planning on simply a doe, but never did we imagine to see a teenage bison wandering alone across the plains. It must have been exiled from its herd! We all discussed if ti was safe for us to hunt it, and hunt it we did. Jumping, biting, slashing, we worked together as one big team to take it down. Once, its horns even hit my flank. Now that hurt for a while. It was the first time I had ever tasted bison, and it made me very proud of both myself and the hunters I lead in the hunt to have brought down one of the most difficult animals to hunt." Sure, Grizelda may have embellished the story slightly, but just hunting wasn't going to inspire young minds. Shifting her position again, her aging hips protested from the pressure of being laid upon. Lustrous golden eyes flicked between the two pups, curious to see what their reaction would be to her story. Salutary Cecil Sirius Pup Quinn

Pale rose colored eyes looked towards the dull black fur that Karini sported. Her appearance had taken a turn for the worse, which only set Raisa’s worry aflame. She didn’t want any of the yearlings to be this way, nor did she want to see them so down in the dumps. Karini definitely had something on her mind, but they sat in silence for a few moments, nothing being said between the two. Raisa was comfortable just sitting there, providing a body for Karini to know that she was loved in the pack. Raisa had always made sure that she brought her love everywhere she went, showing it to each of the young wolves of the pack. Some had hardly known the love of a mother, but she wanted to make sure that they did. Whether it was from her actions, or being in the pack itself. She wanted to make sure that the pups who grew up here without parents would not think of them twice. That was the love that Raisa hoped to show. Compassion and care for pack members always grew a pack that was greater than destruction and brutality. She knew this much from what she had seen in her few years of life.
Finally, Karini spoke. Raisa was content just sitting there, but her ears were listening intently on what the other she-wolf was saying. She was thinking about stepping down from her position as a scout. She wondered if this was because she had not been able to go with Azrath, Simon and Joy. She was hoping that it wasn’t. She knew that Rowan was just trying to do something nice for Joy, so that she could spend some time with the two boys. After all, from what she could tell, Joy had feelings for Simon. And Simon went almost nowhere without his brother. She was glad the three were getting out and exploring the world, but part of her feels as if she should have included - or asked Rowan to include - Karini. She then spoke of leaving, and if Raisa had not stopped herself, she would have visibly flinched and recoiled from the words. How could Karini think that? She was vital to the pack, just like any other wolf was. Raisa’s pale pink eyes were now concentrated on the other, the rest of the world fading. She wouldn’t have to worry for her pups, she was sure Grizelda was having fun telling them stories.
“Karini,” She spoke, looking to the she-wolf, keeping her tone even and calm. “You shouldn’t step down from a position you’re qualified for, and you shouldn’t leave the pack. You are a vital part of Sorelus, just as I am, just as Rowan is,” She spoke, looking towards her with earnest rose eyes. “Without you, this pack would not be the same,” Raisa kept on, hoping that these words would break through the barrier of sadness and depression that Karini had built around herself. “I love you as if you’re my own flesh and blood. I will always consider you my child,” She stated, looking to the black she-wolf. “And I know that right now you might not believe me, but I promise that you mean everything to this pack, more than you think you do. Without you, Sorelus would not be the same,” Raisa shifted her ears a little as she kept going. “And I know that it might be hard to believe now, but I’m going to make sure that you see that. I’ll always be here to talk, even if you think you’re burdening me, talk to me,” She spoke, shifting herself to press her neck against Karini’s, rubbing her nose into the fur as she would any of her other packmates. “It’s okay to be sad, but don’t give up on the wolves that love you,” She whispered, keeping her head there for a moment, before removing herself, coming to sit next to Karini, fur brushing the others as she looked towards the charcoal she-wolf.

As Grizelda adjusted her attention to lay it upon Quinn, the pup's bright eyes met hers, no longer fascinated by the many herbs Cecil kept in his den that would make him sneeze or make him itchy, who knew what other things lay dormant in this den. He followed Sirius' advice and let it be, padding over toward Grizelda as she started finally telling her story in her calm, aged tone, one that could put him to sleep at any moment without hesitation. Once infront of her, wobbly paws stopped to sit his rump against the ground, his tail wagging happily as he watched her face as she talked, looking at the grey of her muzzle and how it peppered into her black pelt. Young eyes filled with wonder at the imagining of a bison, as big as two bears with a blocky head and a strong smell, they sounded scary. But Quinn was sure when he and Sirius were old enough they would be able to fight a bear, he was sure they could fight one of these things called 'Bison' too, they couldn't be strong enough to defeat him and his brother, together they could do anything. With this thought he looked to Sirius, wagging his tail as his eyes found him, then he looked back to Grizelda as she told her story. "Oh wow! what did it taste like? If it was so big did it smoosh anyone? When can I go hunt a bison? I could bring you back one of its horns Grandma Grizelda!"The excited pup began spewing questions, jumping up to his feet as his tail wagged so fast it gave a slight blur, he could hardly contain himself, so ready to grow up and do great things, even if now he could not understand what he said was impossible. Just then the sound of rain falling to the ground made itself clear, even more-so when a droplet landed directly on top of his already irritated nose, sliding down the very center before his pink tongue darted out to taste the slight salt it brought along with it. He hadn't noticed the dark storm clouds that rolled in, heavy with rain.

Cecil was watching carefully as Quinn explored his den of wonders. He too often felt the puppish curiosity about herbs even in his old age, marveling at the healing powers that simple flowers could carry. When Raisa turned away to help Kirini with what was bothering her, the peppered male turned just in time to see the little male run nose first into a bulb of Burdock root. A small chuckle rumbled in the old man's chest, earning him a closemouthed rasping cough. His eyes followed along with the pups, as Sirius chided him and as he came to ask for a story from Grizelda. Cecil knew she had many stories up her sleeve, after all, 9 long years of life would offer many opportunities he was sure even Sirius and Quinn would get when they were her age as well. Amber eyes fell onto the similar peppered fur of his mate, utter adoration filling them to the brim as he also listened intently to her story. The salutary sat his rump onto the ground next to his lover and he let his mind wander, following along every strand of fur, the gleam in her eyes, how her lips curved over every word she spoke, as if this were the last time he would see her. He snapped back into reality as Quinn exclaimed about the bison, a smile falling onto his maw in awe of his burst of energy, almost jealous of it. The days of energy had been lost what seemed like ages ago and he chuckled once more.
Rain started pouring heavily outside of his den, the clouds seemingly overtaking the sky in a matter of seconds, the ground slicking and the trees swaying in the wind it brought with it. Foreboding filled Cecil's being, though he was unsure way. He had survived many rain storms, but this one seemed rather different. Though he couldn't name why.

Taking a sigh of relief, Sirius padded along happily after Quinn as he dropped his inspection of herbs, coming to sit happily in front of grandma and grandpa so he could listen to her story. Though her words made sense in the little pup's mind, his little muzzle still stayed upturned and scrunched until Quinn asked her to tell a story. Unlike his brother, Siruis took it seriously, his face relaxed and not showing of his emotions, though he hung onto every word as if his life depeneded on it. Perhaps one day he, too, would run into a bison and Grizelda's story could help him.
Quinn shot up from his spot, excitement taking over his body causing him to wiggle every which way and hop around as he asked about when he would be able to hunt a bison. Sirius thought hard about this, a small smile coming to his maw as he looked to his brother. "Well, Grandpa Cecil said he reckons we're big enough to fight a bear. It's the size of two of those, so maybe we'll have to wait until we're a liiittleeeee bigger, I'd say!" he said before looking back to grandma. "Where was that bison, grandma? Tell us, please! I want to hunt one when I get older!" The pup felt his mouth watering at the mention of food, he and Quinn had not yet eaten their breakfast, so it made sense. At Quinn's mention of bringing back it's horn, and he nodded as well, his eyes looking up to the older female.

The gray eyes shifted to pale pink, her words were touching they made the despair in her mind lessen, even if only for a few minutes, Raisa had done something very empathetic for Karini and turned the teenagers mind off of the thoughts that had been plaguing her for months now. When Raisa shifted and pressed her white furred neck to Karini’s own dark gray the young female stiffened, the depressed yearling had been isolating herself for so long now she forgot what it felt like to actually be touched by another wolf, to feel their warmth both physically and emotionally, it was easily the most relieving thing Karini had felt in what seemed like forever. Her gray eyes moved back out to the water, rain was pouring down over the landscape, it certainly was a sight to behold, there was beauty in that moment and even Karini, as walled up in despair and depression as she was, could see it. Sitting silently beneath a tree, the pregnant guardian beside her providing the loving words Karini needed to hear in that moment, the she-wolf had become the rock that grounded her and kept her from doing what she had been considering for some time now, at least in reference to letting herself waste away, and even going so far as to leave the pack. Raisa sat next to her, the white fur blurring the lines between them as they sat quietly, and Karini could feel the pale rose eyes glued to her, her own eyes turning up in a gentle look they hadn’t possessed in quite some time. Black lips opened revealing a pink mouth as Karini once again spoke, “Thank you...I needed to hear that.” She was obviously not completely healed, it took longer than a few months to deal with emotional trauma, and just listening to a few words in a matter of minutes couldn't completely heal her, she would need some time, but it was definitely a start to her healing process, after all in order to move past the loss of her family she would need to form ties strong enough to combat those of the ties that had been severed already. Karini glanced in the direction of the other few wolves remaining in camp, “I think we should both go over there, I’m sure your pups are missing you by now Raisa, who wouldn't be missing such a great mother as you.” Skinny legs pushed an even skinnier body up, a rumbling noise from the sky above masking the rumble in her stomach, a hunger pang flashing pain in Karini’s stomach, that was something she hadn’t felt for awhile either. She actually wanted to eat, the gray wolf hadn’t wanted to eat in so long she had almost forgotten what being hungry even felt like, Karini often merely forced herself to down food and usually was unable to hold the food in her stomach without regurgitating it out of disgust. However, here she was, actually talking to another wolf, touching another wolf, and wanting to eat, what strength just a bit of kindness had on a mind so washed up in despair and grief. No one had ever purposefully made her feel worse, Sorelus was a great pack after all, but Karini’s own mental state had made her think she was alone and that no one wanted her there, but Raisa had ceased those thoughts, at least for the time being, and brought Karini back out of her shell and to a place she felt she could talk to someone else again without being a burden. Now all Karini wanted to see was a smile on Raisa's muzzle, not worry about how Karini was doing, and what better way to make a wolf smile than their own pups? Guardian Raisa

The trip back to the commons had been a long one, though Moose was quite used to the trek, it was the weight of the body and the life he supported upon his back that made him grow tired and the time last longer. Fresh and heavy rain slid down from the Mexican Grey Wolf's chestnut pelt onto his, hues of crimson being carried by the water. The rain captured in his pelt and his companions only made his muscles cry out for relief. Soon, I have to get Edon to Cecil first. He told himself over and over, pinning his ears back due to the effort he exerted. The rain did not let up as the once solid dirt became swollen with water, slick and muddy. The Salutary’s Den was a welcome sight once it came into his vision, the final push he needed to make it to the den before settling Edon down with a huff and a groan, bending in an attempt to plant him down softly. “No offense, but you’re not very light, Edon.” His amber eyes moved from the chestnut Mexican grey of his companions to the salt and pepper black of the Salutary. “Cougar got him really bad, Val saved his life, gramps.” Moose informed him before looking back at edon, nudging his shoulder gently with his snout “You’re in Cecil’s den now, rest Edon.” He added in a gentle tone before giving Cecil a bow of his head in respect. He met eyes briefly with Grizelda who was telling Quinn and Sirius a story as he climbed out of the den. The amount of rain falling from the sky began to worry the Timber Wolf, his ears immediately swiveling with his head to look in the direction of the river that flowed through the Sorelus territory, the very one he and Valencia had confessed their love for one another. With a hurried pace he ran the best he could off in its direction. The sound of rushing water immediately overtook his senses as the river overflowed, strong brackish waves washing over the bank and into the commons faster than Moose could react, the air being knocked from his lungs at the pure shock of what was happening. The amber male turned, in an attempt to flee from the water, to warn his pack but he was quickly overwhelmed by the sheer force of the rivers raging waters and the rain that didn’t cease to fall by the bucketful. “Raisa! Save the pups!” The male called out as he was quickly swept up off his feet and taken with the current of the floodwaters, kicking his feet and paws in an effort to stay afloat before being taken completely under. Pale rose eyes looked towards the young she-wolf that Raisa was consoling, eyes studying her body language and movement for any sign of life that had once lived there. She could sense relief wash over the young she-wolf, something that Raisa was attempting to pull from the depths of despair that lurked behind those gray eyes. The gentle look that came from Karini soothed Raisa’s worry for half a second as she thanked her. “There’s no need to thank me Karini,” She spoke softly, watching the she-wolf with loving rose optics. Raisa knew that what she had said would not completely heal the wounds that Karini had carved into her own heart and mind, but they would relinquish some of the pain at least. Festering wounds that had once been infected by her own mind’s harsh words would heal eventually, but it would take time, and reassurance that Karini was indeed important to those around her. Karini rose to her feet, and for the first time, the she-wolf looked more like herself. Although the frail frame she held herself with, and the rib bones that threatened to poke through skin were enough to concern Raisa, she seemed different to say the least. If Raisa’s belly was not heavy with pups, she would have immediately brought Karini a meal. But catching anything in her state would prove to be much too difficult, and could do more harm than good for the children in her stomach. She instead would make sure that Karini had a good meal that night, maybe asking Moose to bring back a large meal should they have time after the mountain lion encounters they were sure to face. Her ears swiveled to turn towards Karini once more as she spoke of her pups that were entertained currently by Grizelda and Cecil. Karini’s words warmed her heart, and she brought herself to her paws, looking towards her pups. “I don’t believe you’ve met them yet have you?” She asked, looking towards Karini before she waddled over towards her pups and the elders. “Quinn, Sirius, this is Karini,” She said, gesturing towards the young she-wolf. “You could consider her a big sister of sorts,” She chuckled, looking towards the black she-wolf with a happy smile on her maw. She had barely noticed the rain that was thundering from above. It had been raining so heavily since the spring had come that she had gotten used to it. She knew that the boys should probably get into the den before they were soaked to the bone and caught a cold. As she looked towards the others, she gave a dip of her head to excuse herself. “Come on, let's get in the den before-” She was cut off by the sudden sound of a yell. Containing her name. Rose eyes looked upwards towards where the yell had come from, and her jaws quickly reached for Quinn’s scruff, snatching it, but she didn’t have a good enough grip as the flood waters came rushing through. Sirius disappeared, and with him went Quinn from her grip. “No!” She screamed. The flood water rushed at her feet, tripping up the she-wolf slightly, but she was able to hold her ground for that moment. Looking around frantically for anywhere that she could find a place to get to higher ground where the water wouldn’t reach her. She knew however, that she would need to get Cecil and Grizelda out of the water first. Raisa pushed her way through the flood, bringing herself to Grizelda’s side who was helping Cecil. She pushed herself up against the male, and saw that there was a large rocky outcrop where they would be safe. “That way!” She called over the roaring waters that lapped at their feet and threatened to take them down the current once more water came through. They had to get there quickly. Moving as quickly as she could, a pain in her stomach caused her fear to rise even more so that it already had. No. Not now. They couldn’t be coming now of all times. She pushed through the pain, knowing that she would need to make sure that her packmates were safe before she did anything. She hadn’t seen Moose bring Edon into the commons, and right now she was focused on getting their Salutary and Elder to the nearest safe place. She pushed through the waters, making sure Grizelda and Cecil were by her side all the while. Pushing forward, they finally made it to the rocky outcrop. But that wasn’t the end of the tragedy. She pushed Cecil up onto the rock, and she brought herself up as well, turning back to grab Grizelda and lift her onto the outcrop, but the she-wolf was no longer there. The water had rushed forward, crashing against the boulder they had found themselves on, the level forever rising, and Grizelda nowhere to be found. “Grizelda? Grizelda!” She yelled, before yelping at the pain coursing through her body. “Cecil… They’re coming,” She forced out between gritted teeth. “But I have to make sure my pack and pups are safe.” @karini Salutary Cecil @grizelda Hunter Moose Pup Quinn Sirius | 880 Words

The little she-wolf had cut off from the rest of the group long ago. Confident that her mate had Edon under control, she had diverted her route towards the almost deafening sound of the roaring river that swept through the heart of Sorelus, curious as to how the land would cope with the torrential shower. The rain was only getting heavier, the water levels rising at an alarming rate within a river bank that struggled to hold its volume. Valencia was quick to find herself trotting across a vantage point, giving her a high ground to the rapids as they began to swell closer and closer towards the valley of the Common Grounds. The little she-wolf was struggling to keep her pace, the relentless shower dampening her thick pelt and adding weight that she wasn't used to carrying, yet she persevered with worry pulsing through her body, knowing that these waters were bad news. She could only hope that her pack mates had made it back safely and were seeking higher ground. Yet as she rounded the cliff face, slipping on the rocky trail that kept her far above the water's engulfing reach, she witnessed tragedy. The banks of the river had been washed away, sending a tidal wave crashing into the heart of their home. Valencia's blood went cold as she watched wolves being swept from their dens, Raisa crying out as her own son was swept away in the merciless torrent. But Valencia had never known true horror until she saw the body of her own mate being swept away, his strength depleted after having carried Edon so far, left helpless as he bobbed beneath the water. Her heart stopped, her mind went numb. "Moose!" She knew his name flew from his tongue as she watched his head sink under, but she hadn't realised she had taken a step over the cliff face until she was tumbling down the rocky slope, skin scraping against ice cold rocks, her limbs scrambling for some kind of grip through the layers of fresh mud, finding nothing but sharp stones and loose branches that left cuts and bruises against her body before she was tossed directly into the heart of the river rapids, her thick water-heavy fur sending her plunging to the bottom. Panicked legs kicked out in all directions as she was sent spiralling through the water, her body thrown against the rocky river bed while she desperately tried to push herself upwards. Her lungs screamed for air that she could not provide, her heart thundering as she feared her mate's death above her own, her limbs flailing as she tried with what little energy she had left to find some kind of vantage in this watery hell. There. Finally. She had managed to get her footing on a larger boulder long enough to push her upwards towards the surface, her head breaking through the crashing waves, sucking in grateful amounts of air as she attempted to keep her heavy body floating. "Help!" She cried through mouthfuls of water, choking and spluttering as she did her best to tread water for as long as she could. "Somebody! Help! Plea-" a crashing wave of water sent her tired body under it's force once again, and this time, she wasn't sure if she would ever see the surface again.

Sirius looked to the massive ginger wolf as he made his way over to the Salutary's den, his best friend laid across his back. Sirius trotted up to the brute, forgetting that it was story time and grabbed onto Edon's tail as it dragged on the ground, his body slipping ever so slightly with every step Moose took, carrying the male's tail with his head and tail high as if it were helping the hunter carry his friend easier. "Ith okay Mooth. I got hith tail." He muttered, mouth full of fur as he resisted the urge to spit it out and get the taste of blood and mud out of his mouth. When they came to a stop and moose placed Edon on the floor of the den, Sirius also gently released his tail, using his paw to smooth out the furs he had mussed with his tongue before sitting dutifully in front of the injured male and the salt and peppered Salutary. Sirius wondered what had happened, and listed to Moose’s story as he sniffed Edon's fur and the Mexican Gray wolf looked to the small pup, muttering a weak thanks for his help carrying him with a smirk. Edon's tail tip wagged softly as Sirius puffed out his chest with pride at the acknowledgement he received as Moose moved on. The rain was beating the ground hard now, and the trees swayed with the heavy winds that pushed them until they looked as if they would snap. Unease settled in the pups stomach as he looked to his brother as his mother went to grab his scruff when the water quickly swept him off his paws. And just like that, Sirius went from listening to the wondrous stories of his Grandmother's life before she found the pack and playing with his brother, to his world being turned upside down and flooded with brown. Water swept mercilessly through the place they call home, throwing him from his family, tumbling with the current that slammed fragments of the earth and branches from the trees against his body. Finally, he surfaced, sputtering and coughing, water expelling from his now burning lungs as his vision cleared and focused on what was going on around him. Little legs paddled frantically as he tried, fruitlessly, to push himself through the water and to dodge the obstacles that were coming at him faster than he could move. He'd lost sight of Quinn and his heart felt as if it were going to burst out of his chest. Sirius struggled for breath, hyperventilating as the water splashed into and flowed over his face and head as his little body bobbed like a buoy at the mercy of the water that grabbed him ever so cruelly. The pup’s head breached the surface once more and he shook the water from his eyes so he could see. The brown head of his brother, only a few feet away from him but the distance seemed to grow as he was shoved under the water again. Sirius’s body collided with jagged stumps from trees pulled over from the wind and the current, his fur tearing from his body as it snagged on the splinters of wood, before he was snatched from the water, alabaster fur at the center of his vision as the maw held tightly onto his scruff and he was brought to the dry surface of a boulder. Sirius coughed up what seemed to be a lake-full of water before the scout shouted something and dove off into the water again. Once he was able to, the pup sucked in the deepest breath he had ever taken before jumping to his paws and searching the water frantically for the russet fur of his brother, finally finding him grasped between the jaws of Azrath who was using the currents to his advantage, pushing off the banks of uneven ground and boulders nestled between trees. Sirius watched in awe as he disappeared beneath the water but resurfaced almost immediately after, before he, too, set Quinn down on dry ground, patting the pups back as he coughed up the muddy water. The pup fell back onto his haunches, letting his head droop with exhaustion as the water, slowing it’s pace carried logs and trees, branches and other animals away before leaving its destruction behind. Puddles of water resided, death lay in its wake, and the once abundant forest was drastically reduced. Sirius was lost, he did not know where he was and though he was alive, he was battered and beaten, bruised and cut. The pup waited for Azrath to return to his side with is brother, using this moment to catch his breath.
The pup was swept up once more by the scruff as Azrath began their journey back to the commons, Quinn at his side, also in bad shape. The rocking of his body made little Sirius drift off to sleep, awaiting his return to their home. He hoped everyone was safe.

The hunter only woke as he felt his body slowly slipping off of Moose's back with every step and he felt jaws, small enough to have to be one of Raisa's pups, clasp onto his tail to keep it off of the ground. Edon looked in the direction they were going, his eyes connecting with Cecil's as the older wolf looked to them, not surprised, his many years of treating wounds such as this probably steeling him to the gore. Everything felt light now as the opium within the poppy he ate took effect again, the sting of his now missing ear non existent and the scratches along his cheek and belly were long forgotten. "Thanks for the help, Sirius.""No offence, but you're not very light, Edon." he heard as his chest impacted with the ground, the hollow sound making it sound like he fell to the ground harder than he really did. "Yeah, since we're admitting things, Moose, you don't exactly smell the best either. You smell like you rolled in bear shit." he rasped with a smirk, willing a chuckle to fall from his maw but it did not come, the stinging in his chest rising and falling as he expelled his breath with effort. Had he been in better health, now he would knock his shoulder into the brute's but since he could barely lift his head, he decided to let his words work their magic instead. As Moose went on about Valencia, Edon nodded too, mentioning how well she did in assisting him when he was hurt, how she kept Kodiak calm....Kodiak. Where was Kodiak? The mexican wolf attempted to lift his head to search the commons, but found himself unable to. With a sigh, Edon relaxed his muscles as he waited for Cecil to work on him, he was sure Kodi would come to visit him again soon enough. Moose had left his side not too long after that, and the ground slicked with the amount of water that fell from the sky, the wind blew through his coat, striking ice cold spikes at his skin as it tingled with the chill. Fear struck through the male's core as the frightened yell of his best friend struck through him and water quickly soaked his fur to the bone. Edon watched as Raisa helped Cecil away from the site along with Grizelda, leaving the mexican wolf still sprawled along the den floor. The freezing waters shocked him, lifting him off of the ground and moving him away from the site completely. Panicked, he felt his head fall beneath the water's surface as it pushed him under, slamming him against rooted boulders and tree stumps. Dazed and weak, Edon allowed the water to overtake him, even if he had wanted to do something about his fate, his muscles surely wouldn't let him. The wolf paddled the best he could to try to avoid obstacles, but to no avail. Edon prayed to whoever would listen, that Moose would survive the flash flood, that Kodiak would live on, maybe even miss the flood all together, and find a wolf who loved her as fiercely as he did, to live her dream and to achieve everything in life she wanted. He wished Sirius and Quinn would grow to be as strong as their father, sweet and caring as their mother and maybe even be able to lead their pack in their father's footsteps. He saw his life flash before his eyes, how lonely he was until he met his best friend, the annoying wolf who pried and pried until Edon opened up to him. The beautiful stranger who made his heart throb from the first moment he saw her. The sweet elder who made his place as Grandfather to all who had none and heals his pack to the best of his abilities. The friendships he made. Sorelus was his home and it only seemed fitting that he die there too. Edon's vision faded as his lungs filled with water and he struggled to the best of his ability to stay afloat. But he was ready for what was to come, ready to say goodbye to his loved ones. @grizelda Salutary Cecil Sirius Pup Quinn Guardian Raisa Hunter Moose Apprentice Valencia Alpha Rowan @wingnut
